As a Caps fan, I agree. Our current uniform debuted in 2007-08 season. Been 15 years with minimal changes. They need a revamped jersey. Helps to explain why our reverse retro was so popular because it was different
They tried the throwback away in 2015 and I didn't like it, glad they went away from it
It's just such a bland look imo. nothing really distinct about the actual jersey or wordmark logo. Weagle rocks but I'm also not sure if it should be the primary. would love an updated, more timeless wordmark that doesn't look so dated (it's VERY 2000s in style) think a modern jersey with some retro additions like stars on the sleeves or colored shoulders would go a long way.
I wish they'd go back to the ones that Ovi wore in his rookie year! The ones from 06 iirc
@@AscendedXSaiyan I love the Capitol Building home jersey. I think the orangish strip needs to be red but otherwise I would to see that jersey make a return. I use it every time I play as the caps on NHL games. I think they could make that the home, the white screamin’ eagle the away and then have the navy blue with our current logo as our alt.
@@AscendedXSaiyan The caps have announced that we will use the old black jersey (only for a few games). I assume the reason why they are bringing it back is because they are going to use those jerseys in the stadium series.
Unpopular opinion: Oilers look better in orange
I like the Orange, but I hatedddd their navy blue jerseys with no white. Those were horrendous. The classic and the orange are both leagues better
Agree completely with the Sabres at #1...love their uniforms, the logo in particular.
That said, if Columbus did the Cannon jersey as their primary, it would be #1 for me. I LOVE that uniform.

I know everyone is saying that the Oiler’s jersey’s are ugly and they’re glad they are going back to the others…but I kinda like the new ones better.🤷♀️The bright orange and navy looks nice. My opinion tho. Also great rankings Neil!
I prefer the orange uniforms as well. Perhaps if they went to a brighter navy or royal blue, it would look OK, but the old school navy from the 80s is a bit dull and not the nicest uniform, IMO.

As a flames fan I agree. I love our current jerseys. I’d like to see them come up with a nice alt jersey to go with it
Kraken came up with a great design right from the start, I could see us keeping the overall feel with only minor tweaks for a long time. I could even see it becoming an iconic look like the Habs or Red Wings and we can just go crazy with alts/3rds.

I’m an Avs fan, so obviously I love their home uniforms, but there are a few others I absolutely adore. The Wild, Kraken, Canucks, and Flames all have incredible home uniforms in my opinion, and I also love the classic royal uniforms that the Oilers will be going back to next season. As well, I think the Sharks’ stealth jersey is beautiful and would enjoy seeing it become part of their primary home uniform, though I’m not sure whether or not Sharks fans would agree, I’m interested to know.
Let’s go Buffalo! I wonder if the different color in the pants you mentioned is a texture issue. Keep up the great work!
Totally agree with you about the Flames! Brilliant colors. I just wish they used it in the road instead. All they need to do now is change their name to the Alberta Flames so they can use the magnificent old Atlanta logo!
As an Avs fan, I love our home jerseys as well with one exception:

18:21 you may already be aware of this but on some occasions they will still wear those uniforms but with a golden helmet instead of the gray helmet (they've recently done so when they played against the new jersey devils on st. patrick's day)

I feel you, it hurts a bit since it’s so iconic (sincerely from an Avs fan 🙃). I kind of agree with him that the uniform as a whole is a bit plain, but I think adding some more white stripes in would take it to a whole new level. And that logo, easily one of if not the best in the NHL in my humble opinion.
As a Sabres fan I agree with the rankings of all the uniforms especially the Sabres

I'm glad someone pointed out the blue pants problem, but the team I noticed it first and most drastically was the Islanders, so I was surprised you didn't mention it. I'm not sure if their shade of blue fades on the pants, but it definitely is different and it shows. I first noticed it in the bubble with Matt Barzal's pants. He was so good there, but the shorts mismatched irked me.
I hope the NHL brings back the Reverse Retro Jerseys as the main jerseys. Mainly because of the bright bold colours. The LA king is my favourite. The Retro NHL jerseys are the best sports uniforms in any sport.

As a Wings fan i have no desire to see the wings wearing a practice jersey for 41 home games a year. So that's a strong No from me for reverse retros as the main home jersey

This is likely the reason.
I doubt all the equipment manufacturers are working with each other and Adidas to perfectly color match with each other.
I doubt anyone is saying "let's not actually match our pants to our jerseys," but are trying to get the closest match to their jersey colors the equipment manufacturers can get.
If some teams can match it perfectly, no excuse for the teams that can't.
I really do think manufacturers (or at least some of them?) can’t or just won’t make their pants a dark enough blue to match the navy that most teams use, because you can notice it with pictures of almost every uniform that uses navy blue. The Avs and Blue Jackets alternates, Canucks reverse retros, etc.
Even in some royal blue jerseys, like the Leafs and Canucks, there’s sometimes a slight difference in shades. I think the material of the pants just behave differently visually than jersey material.

I feel like retro jerseys should be kept as alternates and specialty jerseys and that brands should move forwards not backwards. I have no time for two-tone jerseys as well. My personal preference is to have a main colour, a secondary colour, and an accent colour at minimum.

I feel the exact same way with the retros. It really prevents brands and it’s disappointing that so many teams are doing it just because people are nostalgic. The one thing i disagree on is about the two-tone jerseys. I like them as an alternate because it brings something unique to teams, like Dallas and Edmonton, but i don’t think they should be used too frequently.
So random thought that I haven't seen elsewhere, is there input from the players on how the jerseys feel best for them? I love Columbus's third (the cannon), but owning both the third and a blue primary MIC, the standard blue uniform feels more comfortable to wear. The standards blues don't bunch in weird places and the bottom hem/cuffs are made up of different material.
I also have the Jets third as an alternate that doesn't include the hem details and don't love the feel.
Love the look of most of the thirds overall, (but the strips feel weird). I played rec hockey in college, so I understand how pads will feel under them as well, but curious to know what pros think about MIC sweaters.

I believe your observation about several teams' pant color not matching the color on the jersey is more a matter of different materials than colors. The St. Louis Blues, for instance. The blue on their jersey and the blue of their pants appears different because the material the pants are made of is significantly different from the material of their jersey. The color 'blue' is going to appear somewhat different because of this. I used to ride BMX bikes and when trying to pair the plastic seat (yellow) with the aluminum handle bars (gold) and rubber tires (yellow) etc. the difference of materials played a HUGE part in the best possible match of colors appearing so different. That said, I enjoy all your videos. Keep up the great work!
I think the blue pants for St. Louis is to compliment the shoulders. You’ll notice a pattern in the uniform from navy blue to regular blue.

as a Kings fan, it's just hard to beat the classic 90's jerseys.

Home and Away Calgary Flames jerseys on the left, Devils and Blue Jackets jerseys on the right, along with you sporting the Jackets Awesome Alternate jersey and hat is awesome as hell.
I like your personality and your ratings videos are a lot of fun. I really don't care much for sports but hockey has always been a love of mine and I had so much fun playing rec in middle school/early highschool until I got put on a team with AAA kids who had some problem with the league. That season single handedly ruined hockey for me for a long time. Just been getting back into hockey in the last few years and it was awesome to see the Avs get the cup after 21 years when I first started liking hockey.

As a Preds fan, I have to agree 100%. We badly need to break up the amount of “gold” in our uniforms for the home set.
Kudos to you for your ranking of the Montreal uniform. I know you are a Canadiens fan, so I was expecting a much higher ranking. For what it is worth, the Canadians away jersey needs a total makeover. Don't like all that white and those rounded shoulders. A white jersey with a blue mid-chest stripe would be a huge improvement. Too bad that Original 6 teams are disinclined to redesign their jerseys. FYI: raised in Vancouver, worked in Montreal, now living in NJ.
Regarding the pants not being the same color, you also have to take the texture into account. Love yours vids! You definitely respect the artistry, and I love it!
Texture can be important, but since other teams are able to color match perfectly then there really is not excuse for teams that cannot.

I pretty much agree with everyone of your picks. My only disagreement like you stated in the video, I would have picked the Calgary Flames jersey for the best jersey. It is just the perfect jersey, and I hope they don't change it anytime soon. Your friend is crazy for not liking it, it is absolutely timeless!
I’m definitely in the minority with my opinion, Neil and myself don’t agree with most jersey related stuff
Nashville Predators - jerseys are bad ass. Yes they could be upgraded "stylistically" as you noted; Regardless, the color is refreshing and generally awesome. I love the yellow. Preds certainly not last.
Capitals - jersey Bottom 10.
LA Kings - Very nice. Sort of like the Raiders of the NFL with their plain but intimidating colors. I don't disagree that LA kings could benefit with adding a highlight color (please don't use red) make a predominant Silver jersey with black being the accent.
Edmonton Oilers - I would change the Navy blue to Powder Blue, and Darken the orange to a sort of Burnt orange/red. As it stands I'm not a huge fan of Oilers jerseys (No offense to their fans)
St Louis Blues - The Stripes are simple and placed properly with the colors. However, they need to drop the light blue/dark blue on the same jerseys.. its ugly and totally unnecessary. If they fix that their uniforms are flashy but also classic enough to be top 10.
Winninpeg Jets - It's just a boring color combo and style. I agree with you 100% they need to go retro permanently (I know this well because my American football Miami Dolphins have needed to go retro for decades)

While I believe the Stars massively benefited from changing our colors as victory green is a much nicer and prettier shade than the dark Kelly but with that in mind shouldn’t have stopped the actual Star on the jersey

While I dont mind the pred's uniform I confess that might have been the only one where the reebok apron strings look actually worked. That touch of blue at the top broke up the gold just enough.

I laughed when you said you like nostalgic 1990s! Hahahah omg those old maple leafs unis were hideous! I remember being a kid in the 80s watching hockey night in Canada and saying “why don’t they wear the jerseys from the 50s???

I'm a Kings fan and do like their uniform, I really like the prime green, the silver stripes being a bit sparkly is so nice. BUT that said, I agree with you. I'd love to see some purple back on that jersey.
I’m with you, adding purple back in would look so good! Not sure about yellow because I think it would be cool for them to have a brand distinct from the Lakers. Black, purple, and silver though, that’s a killer combo.
FYI On the Panthers' uniforms the collar laces is in a shape of an "X" just like their state flag.
Unpopular opinion: The Avalanche's home jersey should have the blue and burgundy switched with each other, and the away uniform should be worn with burgundy pants.

Avs fan here, I would love to see that rolled out as an alternate. And if after seeing it I really liked it, I’d be okay with making it the primary home jersey! And I totally agree with going with burgundy pants on the road, that would look solid.

The Wings were a little low imo but I wouldn’t mind using the D logo from the winter classic as an alternate shoulder logo or even as an alternate main logo, haven’t changed the jersey in decades
Also, as a Flyers fan, the current design throwing back to the Bullies was celebrated like none other when it was new. Unfortunately, that design will forever be associated with the Mike Richards/Jeff Carter era and Patrick Kane celebrating in our building. It’s time to bring back the black with some variation of the solid contrasting sleeves that they wore from the time of Cooperalls all the way to Reebok. Then bring this one back again in 20 years and we’ll love it again.

A lot of people say certain uniforms look “clean”. To me the Anaheim ducks uniform is the opposite of clean.

As a canes fan, I’d love to see the canes change that home jersey, or upgrade the alternate to the home jersey. It’s a nice jersey, but I just don’t think it fits the brand anymore. I think it’s too bright and playful, which is kind of the opposite of their new brand, which is dark, threatening, serious. It fit perfectly in 2017-18 when it was unveiled, but it doesn’t fit the brand anymore.
I would like to see a more mean look as well. Shoulda made stormy a boar...
@@coastal4570 stormy originally looked much more like a wild hog but they said the head was too large, too scary for young children and was too hot, which helped in the mascot having a heatstroke

There are some teams that have timeless uniforms that can’t really change or can only be tweaked. NJ, Det, Rangers, Leaf’s, MTL are on that list.
8:16 as a hawks fan to say hawks fans want the hawks ro wear black at home and fans want to that is outrageous. We want the black as an alternate. If they ever change their jersey all fans will be pissed

Well as a die hard New York sports fan that watches local hockey in the Tri-State Area NY/NJ, Rangers, Islanders, Devils, Neil put my hometown teams home jerseys, Devils at 19, Rangers at 12 and Islanders at 10 which I do have all 3 teams home jerseys in Adidas by the way and all 3 look good in person.
I think my top 5 would probably go Wild, Rangers, Sabres, Blackhawks, Bruins

As a German hockey fan I always thought of the NHL jerseys as kind of... boring. I mean, come on! It's the NHL... Why are the jerseys so plain? Get creative!
Some of these NHL jerseys you showed are on a level of a hobby team here in Germany.
My hometown's hockey team is called "Ice Dragons". Their first jersey as a professional hockey team was black and had a print of shimmering red dragon scales on it (the away-version was white with silverish scales). The year after it was covered in local street names.
This year it was fairly simplistic design. A black jersey with a red shoulder area, some thinner stripes in different shades of red, the logo in the front and a grey print of Saxon Prince Widukind as he's buried here.
I'm already hyped for next year's jersey as they get a new design each year!😁
But there are also plenty of other teams here with amazing jerseys even though I think even from a objective standpoint our Dragons jersey is one of the best designs I've ever seen.

Pants manufacturers probably only have a couple of different blue shades to choose from, basically one light blue and one dark blue, so might be hard to match the exact same shade as the jersey
If other teams can do it flawlessly then there is no excuse. These are the best of the best of companies.
I disagree with your ranking with the kings jersey especially because I really like the silver white and black combo and their home is one of my favorites but I think you are right regarding the purple and yellow combo which I think makes for a good reverse retro but I really like their home jersey and I don’t think they should change it but anyway great video man I agreed with a lot of the choices in this video but the kings jersey was one I really disagreed on

So this is less of a how I prefer the current jerseys and more of a how are these jerseys versus the best previous versions of the team's jersey. I comment on many of these, probably to zero eyes, but I am a Dallas Stars fan as I have been since 93. Neil is correct to say that the 99 Stars cup jersey is the best jersey the Stars have had. I will say however when you have lived through the Bankruptcy jersey with no Green and simply "Dallas" across the chest what was going to follow almost had to be better. I was one of only a few of my friends that LOVED the new logo from the moment it dropped. Also I was excited for the Silver in the logo moving away from the gold which, as the organization said also, was due to the fact that there was very little consistency in what shade of "gold" was present across all merchandise. I was 9 when the Stars came to town, and with their quick success by 99 the almost "Cowboys only" city was loving hockey. But between the "gold" would defer between a more yellowish to a more metallic gold on my various posters, jerseys, hats, sticks, shirts, etc.
2013 Brought such a refreshing change from the bland Bankruptcy years' jerseys I adore the current home and away jerseys. Would I like a 3rd jersey with the "Star" '99 look? Of course but do not hate on the current beauties. However, I will say that I have a problem with the current home jerseys. The striping at the bottom of the jersey looks like a sewed on "skirt" to the bottom of a green jersey. By not ending the jersey in green it is no longer like the arms were there are white, black, white stripes with green on either side, the bottom of the torso portion is green the striping but no more green. Since they were not going to end with black to blend into the pants instead realize that the black pants become a portion of the striping as a whole. Imagine jersey is green with the white, black, white, last bit of green, then the pants are black and then the socks complete the symmetry of the colors by going green, white, black, white, and green again. Helmet black, skates black (perfect symmetry).

My wife ruined the new Flames look for me. She walks in, sees the jerseys and says, “it reminds me of ketchup and mustard” and I’ve never been able to look at them the same way.
As an Avs fan, I would like to make some tweaks to the Avalanche jersey.
To me, the jerseys look like they've been worn for a long time and washed a bit too often.
The blue looks a bit washed out and the grey stripes look like they used to be white and turned grey over time.
I would like to see the same jersey, but with the colors of their alternate jersey.
White stripes and the dark navy blue instead of the light blue they use now.
I can see the jersey getting a bit too dark then, but I would at least like to see what it would actually look like with these changes
For me the top jersey is Vegas and second Boston and third Seattle, LA and Minnesota, the worst are Flyers, Canadiens, Ducks.
Canucks need to get onboard with the retro thing and get the flying skate in full time.
