The story/lore behind his insanity, blindness, and strange sounds is actually pretty cool, though. Voldo became blind and mute due to his dedication to guarding the Money Pit and protecting Vercci's (his master) treasure. The Money Pit was quite dark, and Voldo went without nourishment for a few decades. All of this is how Voldo became who he is now!
And he’s still awesome in 2024 :)

@@Daydreamroses Voldo might be one of the most bizarre fighting game characters but he’s really cool! And it’s impressive on Soul Calibur’s part on how they somehow managed to make us take him seriously despite being so weird
@@Daydreamroses and to this day I still play Soul Calibur 3, it’s that much of a masterpiece :)
And that’s one of the biggest issues with many fighting games today; while games like Soul Calibur 6 or Killer Instinct 3 have fantastic gameplay and charm, they lack the replayability of their predecessors. Their predecessors have a higher replay value and I go back to play Soul Calibur 2 and 3 a lot more often than Soul Calibur 6.
Not every game needs a crazy high replay value like Skyrim, but it certainly helps to have a moderately high replayability.
In the original canon at least, from Soul Edge to SCII/III - he had his tongue cut out so that he could not tell anyone where the money pit was located and couldn't divulge secrets. He lost his sight due to the money pit being basically at the bottom of the ocean. As for his fighting style, I don't remember the details.
Fun fact though, in SCII (afaik), Voldo was like 55 years old or something, which is kinda crazy

Considering it was released in 1995, in the early days of the PS1, Soul Edge holds up really well. Try and find another PS1 game from 1995 with graphics and animations that good.
All the other games from Soul Calibur onward still look pretty good today. Especially 3 and 4.

@@DarthWall275 i gotta say im kind of astonished at how beautiful SC 4 is, the backgrounds and the character textures/designs is absolutely gorgeous, never knew about 2nd player Nightmare for example, also the in-battle effects are top tier imo and the overlays are really good too, it's a shame game lacks battle theater and other stuff other entries got, I've been a fan since 1999-2000 and play all of them on pc, it's a pity there's no online support thru emulation, cheerz :)

As a female gamer I always felt little sad how all hot male characters had more and more clothes on (as comparison of female characters) in every unlocked outfit. Then I saw a light of Voldo's naked butt cheeks and I thought finally. Finally something to women as well.

The thing is he's not sexualized for the female gaze so much as it is to be "weird" and "unsettling." If you find him attractive, that's usually taken as "weird" too. But as a woman, I still love him as a character.

There's a mistake. The name of the first game is SOULBLADE... soul edge is the name of the mythical double sword.

It was original Soul Edge. They renamed it to Soul Blade when they released it outside of Japan bc of some licensing problem or something

Hunk Redfield they never said he died in any of the games and 6......I have not heard anywhere about it being in another timeline
SC6 is a reboot of the franchise, starting with the first Soul Calibur. It’s supposedly a retelling of the games in a different timeline so maybe some stuff will change.
As for SC5, it’s implied that Patroklos kills Voldo during one of their battles in the story mode.

My favorite incarnation of Voldo, the only one I really liked, is the one where he pretty much molests the other player's character during his special moves via creepy body contact while I look over and see the other player cringe as I giggle. Making him into a contortionist ninja really reduced him to me.
