  • Today I've bought, fixed, reviewed and sold a 2009 Vauxhall Insignia. In this video we look everything that was wrong with it when I bought it, what I fixed and how much profit I was able to make on the car.
    This is part of the series I am calling Bangernomics; where I take an affordable car, review it, fix it and then try and sell it for a profit. The last car was as C3 Picasso and the one before that was a Xsara Picasso. Whether that means I'm going up in the world is up for debate but this is no doubt the most solid out of the cars I've owned for a few months.
    If you want to watch the review of the Insignia, that is below and don't forget to subscribe to see the next car in the Bangernomics series.

    Late to the video, owner mine for over 2 years now and never had a problem. The older diesels have a problem with a thing called the oil seal. As long as that gets changed and all the normal things the car will keep on going. Mines now on 210,000 and drives like new

      I had a very similar experience really, I didn't own it quite as long but nothing major. Wow that's decent mileage, do you still have it?

    The CDTI is a fiat Multijet engine, its naturally a bit noisy and wobbly. You'll probably find its the dual mass flywheel cause the vibrations. Easy to change, hard to get to.

      @macswhips  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Interesting, I didn't realise that it was a fiat engine. The vibration was a turbo solenoid though! As soon as I changed it it stopped the buzzy vibration!

    1 Common issue on these is glow plugs, get engine hot and spray WD-40 on glow plugs everyday for weeks on end. They will come out super easy. Don't force them they will break. 8nm on a torque wrench in reverse.

    my insignia, cost me £5,000 on finance, paid it off early and soon as i had a week later everything went wrong, front shockers collasped, then the low oil pressure started showing on dash, n dual mass making a racket, so i had new oil pump n dual mass n clutch, then starter failed with alternator, timing belt n service, 4 tyres n lastly new glowplugs (non sensored) cost me in total a further £3,500, but now i think top suspension bushes are gone as steering goes stiff when i brake and turn the steering

    Really quite fancy one of these, great channel btw, love your style.
    I am 3 years into a bangernomics 1.8vvt Vectra C 2008, put nearly 30k on it, issues have been wheel bearings/suspension bit n bobs and coolant issues, thermostat and pipes...got it for £1k part/ex to clear, so not been too bad, does 45mpg on a run..would happily get another tbh, still plenty about.
    But, these diesel Insignia's are really tempting me (tax and purchase price), also with all my motorway miles i do, read all about the potential pitfuls, but if you buy cheap...less to fall, scrap it and start again if its a big job...kind of my thinking with, even with this Vec C at the moment, what do you think?

      Ah thank you, really appreciate the comment.
      Do you still have the Vectra? I never thought of a Vectra to be quite honest with you.
      But I agree with scrap it and start again, I'm really enjoying going through cars like that, small risk and 'big' reward if you get a good one. Plus, if you're a car guy, you get to enjoy different cars quite often. I've just purchased a Freelander 2 for £999 which you'll see on the channel soon enough. Probably have a little spend on it but seems a peach!

    Hello, looking to buying an insignia for myself do you have any comments on what to keep an eye out for? What do you think is more worth it the 1.8 petrol or 2.0 disel?

    • @khajiit8221
      @khajiit8221 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Insignia is a fine car, I can comment as I have had both, petrol and diesel. The 1.8 petrol is a simple old school engine, but not very fast or economical. The Insignia is too heavy for this engine. It struggles for 35 mpg also. So if performance and economy are a concern, avoid the 1.8 petrol. The 2.0 cdti diesel is stronger and does around 50 mpg, much better, but unfortunately suffers from the usual diesel problems - DPF, injectors, EGR valve, and so on. It also has a famous oil pick up seal failure at around 100K miles. In all honesty mate do your research, make sure you buy a good condition full history car, and don't pay too much for an early Insignia :)

      Sorry for the slow reply. In all honestly I'm not qualified to say what to avoid and look out for as I've only owned one type and only for a few months. There are plenty of comments that are really helpful on this video though. I hope you find a good one!

      One of my mates did it. So it wasn’t really a true cost if that makes sense

    I wonder why those cars cost at least ten times more here in russia. It really sucks that the poor have to pay so much more.
