    Aahh, good stuff Dom, thanks for sharing. "Sabre Tooth Whiting" are our main stay fish. We use 150lb nylon with a 50lb leader. We use paravanes with a Jarvis walker slice lure.
    We always skin them and never eat them fresh. Fillet, skin and pack into meals and then vacuum seal them. Eat them after a couple of weeks or a couple of years....They come back beautiful. Once you find a school just mark it and keep circling back. You will bag out in 10 minutes then you can start fishing the bottom.
    Cheers.....

    Your exuberance solo fishing on your boat is as clear as crystal. Nothing ventured nothing gained seems to be appropriate to you. I understood that Snook is smelly & slimy. Most anglers I have seen in NSW throw Snook back & hate even handling them. I've only ever caught one Snook & it got off the hook before I could land it. I am still keen to catch & cook Snook though I may have to find ways to clean, scale & skin it. Perhaps, NSW Snook is a different variety from WA snook. Thanks for sharing.

    • @FishTuckerMan
      @FishTuckerMan  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks alot mate. I didnt find these big ones slimmy nor smelly at all, usually I drop the fish when handling them lol. Possibly a different species to the NSW pike🤙🍺

    awesome mate, snook are one of my favorite eating fish around here. I can't understand why they get such a bad wrap, very similar to whiting and easier to clean imo. When they start schooling in close over the weed beds from about now through until september try trolling small tuna skirts at about 4-6 knots, they can't help themselves

    Snook are actually pretty good eating fish, taste nothing like the other barracudas, snook have a much nicer taste and a texture almost like whiting, not necessarily a prised fish but even I reckon they are pretty tasty and I'm picky! Awesome work Dom🤙👌🎣

    • @FishTuckerMan
      @FishTuckerMan  Před 3 lety

    • @cozab5487
      @cozab5487 Před 3 lety

      @@FishTuckerMan Yea mate that be because the smaller ones are actually a completely different species haha, people often confuse the 2, but Striped Sea Pike are the culprit most of the time when in that smaller size, super common over the summer months and differ to Snook in that Pike have a much stockier/thicker build, a broader head, larger eyes, and dusky brown to yellow colouration along their backs and fins. Snook on the other hand are extremely slender when smaller (30-40cm snook are almost like a big pencil in build haha), smaller sharper head profile, uniformly grey coloration, and of course they grow to well over 100cms (where as pike never reach more than 45-50)... Hope that helps somewhat Dom, I agree 100% the Pike are not good to eat at all, but the Snook are actually suprisingly good, and if you ever get some smaller ones (you'll know immediately when you do because they are stupidly thin compared to pike) definitely keep them as they are even better than the big ones!

    That's some high percentage recovery of fillets off those snook decent sized too can't complain about those at all also I have a suggestion in regards to the snapper maybe try using larger hooks and baits like whole squid or perhaps mullet fillet might stop the smaller ones just decimating the softer/smaller bait before the bigger ones have a chance to move in
