I was 9 when Avatar came out, absolutely blew my mind. Still my favorite movie to this day. It influenced me a lot and was one of my inspirations for becoming a biologist. The world and the concepts are like a window to a perfect existence for me.
They announced the sequels in 2015 and I‘ve been hyped ever since. Words can not describe how excited I am
I'm 18 right now, and I've been waiting this sequel for a long LONG time, since I was 5 years old, and I watched Avatar so many times when I was little, and in theaters my mom noticed me watching the movie in awed.
I like the lore of avatar
Cameron announced that he was making sequels in 2010, even in 2006 before the original came out he said if it was successful he was gonna make multiple sequels, 2014 and 2015 were when 2 & 3 were originally scheduled to release not when they were announced. Anyway 13 years is forever and I can’t wait for this
@@puppetmaster8551 Wasn’t it 2015 when Cameron actually said he‘s done with the script for 2&3 and that there‘ll be four sequels for real? As far as I remember thats when things got tangible. Before that I knew they said they‘ll do more but I wasn’t sure if we‘ll actually get to see it.
I might be confusing the year with the announcement for the open world game though;)
Anyways… I‘ve been hyped for many years now
@@Livingston_Seagull idk when he finally finished the script but the 2 sequels were initially first scheduled for 14/15, then they got delayed a million times lol. So ya that was the initial plan and obviously things didn’t go according to plan but we’ve finally Made it here and while it was forever it’s only Gonna be beneficial for us because technology improved in certain area and he had all the time to work on stuff like scripts and perfect them etc., probably still would’ve been amazing but no chance the movie looks as spectacular in 14 and 15 as it will in 2022 and 2024. So ya it was a rough wait but at the end of the day it’s only gonna increase the quality of the product and the spectacle of the movie. Feels like a lifetime but I’m glad we’re finally here and it’s gonna be glorious
i honestly dont know why people dont like this movie ive loved it since it came out and have been waiting for the sequel since
Mostly because the first movie didn’t encourage peace. A theme I got from the movie was, “Always kill for your beliefs and never choose to negotiate.” Humanity literally tried everything they could to make peace in the first movie, and the main character didn’t stay focused on his one mission, literally the entire reason he was allowed in an Avatar to begin with, and that was to make peaceful negotiations. It wasn’t even his mission to start. It was his brother’s. Instead, the dude goes rogue after NOT trying anything to make negotiations, betraying humanity, disrespecting his dead brother’s mission, etc. There are tons of review videos and even comparison videos such as Avatar vs Princess Mononoke, which explain how one movie succeeds where the other fails in its messages, themes, characters, etc
People always wanna act cool by hating the popular thing
@@Martin-rh6bn
Avatar vs Princess Mononoke
I think people were annoyed because the story isn't too impressive. But the visuals more than make up for it. It depends whether you see more from the POV of Native Americans or Chris Columbus.
@@couragew6260 lmaooooooo you got me dead. The humans came to this planet because they fucked up their own and used up all of the resources and they wanted a metal that was under one of their sacred trees and they told them that they couldn’t destroy it and the humans got mad and started a war over some fucking metal. They had no right to anything on that planet unless the people of the planet said they could, which they said no. Jake fell in love not only romantic love but he fell in love with the planet, a planet that seems to be connected with everything on it. He and his new people had every right to defend their land as to not end up like earth in this film. And by the way they don’t have to negotiate if they don’t want to. The humans in the first one were greedy and in the wrong period.
You can see their children vary in their physical features, you can see their middle son Lo'ak has the human number of digits like Jake (so he will probably struggle the most being seen as an "outsider" like his father and be a central character), but their eldest son and young daughter appear to have the regular Na'vi amount like their mother.
The daughter is obviously Sigourney Weaver reincarnated somehow.
@@Bayard1503 adopted daughter. i believe she is the second life, according to what the na'vi believe
@@Bayard1503 They have two daughters. One adopted which is the Sigourney one
In regards to Eric, the plot was never the stand out, a lot of movies share the same plot or similar elements these days, I am here for the amazing visuals and action we are gonna see yet again. I'm sure theres gonna be plenty of people trying to be unique and complain about the plot in this one too, Top Gun Maverick was literally a repeat of the 1st with the Star Wars trench run🤣🤣 no one was complaining about plot then.
Yeah I am not going into this movie expecting a good story. All I want is too be entertained and see the spectacle. That's all this movie really has to accomplish in my opinion. Cameron is a god at sequels so there is a chance this could be better than the first but we have to wait and see. I don't think anyone should go into a movie like this and expect it to be an Oscar winning story or anything. I really like the first one even though the story is nothing to write home about.
Repeating a story isn't a problem in itself, it's what story you choose to repeat that might be a problem. In Avatars case it just happens to be a boring story, but that's subjective😜
@@Sm0kingGun the main reason I like Avatar has nothing to do with the plot, it isnt that kind of film, theyve created new technology for this movie just like they did the 1st, the movie is revolutionary in terms of motion capture, special effects and cg and thats what gives it an edge, its not like its in my top 10 movies ever but it is beautiful to look at and watch and whos to say this cant be a signifcant step up in the story after all the ground work has been layed from the 1st movie
You people saying that the story is inconsequential are insane. Like...the entire point of a movie is that it is telling you a story. If the story is bad, the movie is bad. This idea that you can prop an entire movie up on visuals alone is ludicrous and is extremely damaging to the whole industry. That entire mentality is the reason that crimes to cinema like The Emoji Movie exist.
@@Sm0kingGun Who says it's a repeat
Avatar and John Wick both utilise a plot we've seen plenty of times before, and that's okay. The stories take a preexisting idea and slap a new universe, fantastic acting, and outstanding choreography on top. The story will still be great, the visuals will be stunning, and the acting will be outstanding, what more do we want?
Avatar was recently released in imax 3d and was absolutely incredible to view even on a rewatch. This film will not only be available for 3d but also 4DX which will be insane.
I plan on watching it in 4dx.... And if I like the flick I'll watch it again in IMAX
Hmm, 4DXis more of a gimmick, it's cool in an action popcorn movie but here I think it would just distract me from the visuals.
The rerelease also was in 4dx here. I tried it, as well as IMAX 3d and Dolby 3d to compare. I'm not really a fan of 4dx, it feels gimmicky and distracting. It might work for some films, but with Avatar I just want to focus on the visuals.
Just seen it in 4dx last night . Amazing
Also mocap was almost impossible to get right underwater and James being James pretty much perfected it
bro making patents left and right
This movie is the only thing I been looking forward to for very long time.
I went to see the recent rerelease of the first in IMAX 3d HFR and it was pretty impressive. What truly blew me away though, was the special preview for part 2. It really made me believe in 3d HFR and it was only a couple of minutes. It was super immersive and almost felt real. I will definitely be making the 1 hr drive to the nearest IMAX theater to watch it.
This movie is gonna slap 🔥
This was actually filmed underwater. That was one of the hurdles James Cameron took over a decade developing, since the original performance capture rigs had refraction issues. So yea, the actors are swimming. No tricks
Can't wait for this banger🔥🔥🔥
this is defenitely going to be on a top 10 films of year list for me
It’s good to be back in Pandora
At 7:45 you are right. Whales at one point were on land but some went back into water (the whales we have now) the ones that stayed on land became hippos. Whales and hippos are closest living relatives to each other. Evolution is an amazing thing
as a regular 2d artists, I am really blown away by it, even if I have no idea how to begin to do cgi, my knowledge in arts helps me understand and appreciate how amazing everything looked!! and is just a trailer!! this is a must see in theaters, even if the story sucks, the visual effects look world changing!!
It’s been 13 years since avatar and I’m so hyped for this movie thanks James Cameron 👍🏻
I hate the argument that the story was weak. The story was straight forward yes but it was told within the most breathtakingly beautiful scenery and visuals. Avatar was the only movie to truly make me feel like that other world existed. I cannot wait to see this one!
Exactly I agree in my opinion in order to do a sci-fi movie you need to keep aspects of the story simple so that general audiences can latch on to it
Such a bad argument. So many movies borrow other stories as their framework (all star wars films included)
Facts!! Some people are just salty that it still remains as the #1 movie of all time! 🤘🔥
You can’t blame people for calling a weak story weak. You can have all those other good things and a good story which should be the expectation.
@@d.b.scoville I personally loved the story, and in the context of the Na'vi found it extremely touching and moving. Yes it wasn't the most creative story but within the setting it was told I was hooked.
I can’t wait for this movie. I’ve seen avatar 1 over 100 times and I’ve watched this trailer 23 times
🐳 7:30 Only *Eric* knows for certain, but I believe he meant to say *_vestigial,_* and not _vegetative,_ when suggesting whales may still have knee bone bits (or the remnants there of), within their current massive whaley whaleness.🐋
I noticed some comments were defending the plot of the first film. I'd like to add to those comments by noting how the treatment of indigenous peoples was not only historically relevant, but is still quite relevant. Consider the Dakota Access Pipeline, as just one example. While there's a lot more to the issue, one aspect is how the original path of the pipeline was changed after the white citizens complained the pipeline would risk _their_ water supply. So, it was diverted to instead go through native lands, where it would corrupt burial sites and likely contaminate the water supply.🤦🏼♂️
Edit:* According to what I found, the sequel will be in the following formats - Dolby Cinema, IMAX, and IMAX 3D formats
I know people have been dragging this film but I loved and enjoyed watching the movie. Watching it on the big screen... it was so beautiful and enchanting
So beautiful! I can't wait!
Watch it in 3D folks, it's the intended way because it is shot in 3D. I saw the sneak peak in 3D IMAX, and it's glorious compare to the 2D scene in the trailer.
I washed the first Avatar when I was 5 years old in the Theater, Making it my first Movie Ever watched in a Theater. So, this Franchise has a Special place in my heart because I love Movie and storie telling... But, man I was losing hope that they'll ever make a 2nd one and finally they announced it a couple of years ago but not just one movie a couple more. I can't wait to see it in the Theater, with My Parents and Brother who I washed it the first time, I might Cry.
Amazing Visuals - can't wait!
The Avatar story could just as much be considered 'timeless' as 'unoriginal' - that's the way I see it, and for many reasons its one of my favourite films. So excited for the second one.
The first one was the best version of Pocahontas.
Legit one of my favorite movies.
I would love to see you guys react to visual effects / the film making process, what goes on under the hood, as someone who used to work in VFX I always enjoy seeing the layman react it all.
the i can feel her bit at beginning i think that's Sigourney Weaver as she's in this
Avatar 2 is going to break records once again because it goes far beyond the usual geek niche. The hype in China in India is CRAZY .....
I was 2 when this came out 😭 my mum bought the DVD and I would watch it and had no idea what was happening
I’m there December 15th for a Thursday showing, when Way of Water comes out. Saw Avatar in 3D IMAX this past September, just to say I got to experience it, the best way possible. Undecided if I’m going to do the same for the 2nd film though. May settle for regular 3D. 😂
It comes out on my birthday! My old tradition was a Star Wars movie coming out by my birthday and now it's Avatar so I'm happy.
I see the trees and such as conduits through which Eywa, the Navi deity communicates with them and how they are all in part connected. He has 3 children as well As well as 2 adopted ones a human left behind called Spider, and Kiri the one played by Sigourney weaver.
I saw the first movie in theaters, but I couldn't watch it with the glasses on because it made me feel sick, so I watched without. It was still so beautiful, and tbh I thought it looked better. It isn't important to me to see things like they are jumping out at me. I really hope that this new tech that you were reading about on Aaron's phone that said you wouldn't need glasses doesn't give me that same feeling of motion sickness. I would be heartbroken if I couldn't watch the film!
I hope Blind Wave do a reaction to this!
They're also going with 48 Frames per second, but with a new technology that does look more cinematic. Keywords here are 3D HFR and True Motion.
While it's not officially mentioned for Avatar Way of Water (While Avatar and Titanic got a re-release with it), either a native solution or TrueCut Motion itself will be used. It is a technology that Pixelworks has been working on for many years. The problem it attempts to solve is judder, strobing, and motion artifacts that can result in 24p HDR content. While other solutions to these issues are available, they can destroy the 24p film look that many creators still desire. TrueCut Motion allows the adjustment of these artifacts on a shot-by-shot basis while maintaining the look and making 48 FPS footage much more cinematic. Even without 3D glasses, this might be a pretty sharp and nice experience.
I saw the original in imax during it recent re-release and they showed a scene from way of water in imax and it’s GORGEOUS!!!! You guys have got to see it in imax if you can
James Cameron masterpiece incoming I can’t wait
Amazing 🔥
I'm a Pathfinder main and appreciated the reference
So its not so much the water simulations that have changed (although there have been advancements for this film in that regard as well), the technique they are discussing after the trailer ends is called 'Caustics'. Its something that we have known about and to some degree have been able to do for a while in CG but has been so computationally taxing that we fake it to save time. Its a property of light refraction and something that happens during the rendering process not the simulation process
VFX Artist here, for the love of god please watch this in 3D. It's not that cheap post conversion stuff marvel does that makes your head hurt. They have spent millions of dollars on camera equipment to film everything is true stereoscopic 3D. Not to mention the cost of rendering all of this intense CGI twice, once for each eye. You are missing out on half the movie if you watch it in 2D.
I was a young 13 year old lad when Avatar was released in 2009 so it’s a shame we had to wait 13 years but I’m seeing it tomorrow!!!! 😃
Older Aaron without a beard...I don't think I can unsee this
Looks insanely good
The avatar ride at Disney is 3D Eric can experience that :)
i bet the actors that are apart of this movie are like "FINALLY!!!!!!"
This live action components of this film were shot native 4K 3D and high frame rate
one of my favourite animals!!!love it
Yes! Exactly. They are actually in real water with motion capture dots. They are swimming. And since water bends light, it messed up the motion capture dots and how they reflected back to the camera. So, once again, JC had to invent technology and algorithms to animate it all properly. I don't think people realize what they're seeing. 😉
James Cameron is the master of 3D cinematography. He is a visual master in the way that Stanley Kubrick was a master. As Kubrick proved with 2001, Cameron doesnt need a plot or characters to make a great movie. Avatar is the purest and simplest example of Cameron's craft. But Cameron isnt stupid. He knows that he cant pull another Avatar out of his a**. He actually has to give us more story and more characters. Look what he did with the two greatest sequels ever made, Aliens and T2.
This could be Empire Strikes Back if it was made by a master filmmaker.
Kate Winslet is in the sequel and she had to hold her breath for 7 minutes straight under water, while they were shooting her underwater scenes. She's beaten Tom Cruise with that.
Hmm interesting now knowing they are searching for the source of the ygdrassil type tree, that it takes them underwater cause it would make sense that the beginning of all life on the planet started under the ocean.
First time Motion capture under Water!
I love the first Avatar movie I hope it's as good man
If anyone is interested (blindwave included) about cutting edge VFX and want to learn more I would HIGHLY recommend CZcams channel Two Minute Papers with Dr. Károly Zsolnai-Fehér
There genuinely is nobody on CZcams that does it better than this man, and as I said earlier he makes videos of cutting edge stuff that has just being created that isn't even being employed in film yet.
Watch The Abyss it's one of my favorite James Cameron movies
Its impossible for this movie to not get number 1 grossing film of all time
Personally I'm going to see it in an imax 3d cinema (France)
James Cameron wanted the movie to feel realistic
so they actually filmed underwater to add more realism when underwater instead of faking it
You guy’s should watch the making of this. Goes into the 3D thing. 🇬🇧🙏🏻
I'm wondering if this new tribe was in the first movie helping with the fight. I don't remember any other natives being a different colour when the different tribes were joining together.
This might seem a bit out of the blue. But I wonder if they've seen Princess Mononoke. I think that'd make for a good reaction.
The guy with the black t-shirt looks like a younger version of Ricky Gervais
FINALLY....James Cameron is back and I'm here for all its glory
I think the new thing is they did motion capture underwater so the water was real, just the characters are CGI.
Otw
Oh this movie is most definitely in 3D!!!! A lot of MCU movies coming out are still in 3D!!!! 3D is still very much alive and I love it especially with 4DX!!!!
in 3D.. masterpiece.............
Just saw the movie today
There are some subtle differences between an avatar and a native. Mainly being that the avatars have five fingers, whereas the Na'vi have four.
we get 2 good event that happens next month is nr 1 the new movie will release 14 december and second the new avatar game called Avatar: Frontiers 31 december
I wish Pandora was a real place to visit!
I'd leave the earth and make my fortune in the New World!
All the Avatar films have and will be shot in native 3D and you can best believe there will be a massive marketing push to watch it in that format (as well there should be because it is indeed an immersive experience unlike the trendy post converted 3D crap that flooded the theaters after the original). Gravity (also shot in native 3D) is the only film I can think of that came after that was really worth ticket price. Two billion is the floor for Way of Water IMO. It's going to MASSIVE again.
@7:35 the word Eric is going for is "vestigial" not "vegetative"
Am I the only one that disagrees with Calvin in regards of what we got from this trailer? I felt we got alot more of certain characters, potential plot and what happened in the time we last saw this world. I'm a huge fan of the first and I know how kind of "basic" the plot seemed in that one but from what I've seen with this trailer alone is that the story seems more fleshed out or deeper for a better term. I don't know maybe I'm a bit biased but I felt we got a ton more to bite into here 😂
What I thought was interesting… just a small tidbit, is that I don’t see Norman. I wonder if he dies in this movie. Nevertheless i think it’s going to be an epic one for the ages with how far the technology has come. When I saw Naytri’s face at the beginning my mouth dropped open. This film looks and feels incredible.
There are only like one or two showings that aren't in 3D.
Go see this in 3D. This will alter your mind on what 3D is supposed to be. It will bring back the 3D craze once more.
The Sandman please 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
My thing about this and I hope they go into how in the movie but how do the other tribes know English? The first movie grace taught the navi English but then when jake went to the other tribes he had to translate? Soo idk
I've watched this movie 3 times alr
Woww Nice Movie 💙💯👌🏼
lessssgooo
Watch the abyss it's one of my favorite James Cameron movies
Well, actually it's not their spirit.
It's their god named Eywa.
Bra. It’s deff made to be seen in 3D. They handed out 3D glasses at the D23 expo to a crowd a people for exclusive scenes. They weren’t even in a theater and got the glasses. Please see it in 3D
Looks so damn good, James Cameron sure takes his time
Can someone please explain to Me what would be the best way to see this movie? Standard,3d Glasses or Imax? I already wear glasses so I don't really want to Put on a second pair over my first, but I hear they have versions that you can clip on to your glasses.
3D is definitely how it is intended to be seen
Personally I think a 3D IMAX screen is the best way to see the movie, since 3D was a pretty large part of what made the original movie so extrodinary, however if you don't want to wear the second pair of glasses then a regular IMAX screen is a close second place :)
IMAX 3D. I wear glasses too but rewatching the first on 3D on september's re-release still looks outstanding, the depth is present at all times unlike most 3D conversions of late. It's worth the annoyance, and once you get inmersed, you forget about your glasses.
@@Everan614 Do you think regular 3D would suffice if you don't have an IMAX theater nearby?
@@Everan614 so right now my options available are Imax 2D at regal cuz there isnt any 3d tickets available yet ,or GXL at AMC.
3:50 "They're not faking CGI?" Wow, wow.... wow!
can't wait to see this in IMAX 3D :) This movie is shot natively in 3D so don't watch it in 2D as you will not experience how it should be seen
Kinda hate the fact Eric influenced by outside reaction, who cares what it's inspired by or "well it's a classic tale", most movies tropes are reused everywhere all the time, tropes since mankind told stories, end of the day the movie was awesome. Glad to know at least alot of people like me would go "It's him It's Jake" Happily
*Damn... I thought this was going to be some Avatar Legend of Aang from Netflix!*
This is obviously in 3D, maybe they're not even showing it without it.... James Cameron doesn't care about trends, he does what he wants.
2:09… So this is going to be like Titanic then?
I feel like the heartbeat that they are talking about throughout this trailer isn't Eywa, but Grace who at the end of Avatar 1 had her soul absorbed in to the tree. Sigourney Weaver is set to return too in some shape or form. Cameron has also been working on a 3D technology for this movie where it doesn't require you to wear glasses to see the 3D imagery, that could be the next biggest selling point.
That was Sigourney's voice as Jake's daughter, the one who talked about the heartbeat.
To anyone who thinks this movie is going to bomb or just not be as successful as the 1st keep this in mind. Those same haters said that The Terminator and even Terminator 2 were going to be a bomb, that Titanic would sink and that Avatar would crash and burn. And yet not only did they succeed but they were all GROUNDBREAKING films.
James Cameron has literally made a career out of proving them wrong. T those critics he says, to quote The Rock “Know your role AND SHUT YOUR MOUTH!”
Going to be a test? Did they just forget about Top Gun or Spider-Man? No one even expected Top Gun to make the money that it did. This movie will most likely be in the top 3 with Top Gun and Black Panther but it’s not going to make the same amount the first film did.
*gasp* Subnautica
can you guys pls do a reaction to the tv show SEE :)? would love to see it
