To this day I tell I rant and rave about the finale of this version to the younger Disney stans in my fam. The touch screens are so common- place in today’s society and I don’t think that the finale should include anything that is so passé in present day if we’re supposed to be going from the past and present to the future.

I miss the old finale of this ride. The song that played always brought a tear to my eye even when I was younger. When I rode this ride this year which was the first time I have rode it in 10 years I cried when I got off, I was so upset about what they did to the end taking out that beautiful melody and instead shoving some stupid screen in you're face with global warming videos on it. @PaperMario64 but the ride has always been about communication and how it evolved over time then out of nowhere yoy get a screen talking about green energy. It doesn't belong in the ride. They could have instead talked about quantum computing and ai and the many many innovations that are being created. It would have fit nicely after the scene with bull gates in his garage and it also would have stuck with the theme of communication. Epcot use to be a permanent world's fair showing the progress of man and a picture of a brighter future. Shove the green energy crap in the land pavilion where it belongs.

One of the (many) reasons I love this version so much is because when you descend back down to earth you're actually looking at things all around you, as opposed to the current version where your attention is focused on the screen in front of you. It's depressing, but it's almost as if the Imagineers were making a social commentary with this. :(

    • @gargantuaism
      @gargantuaism Před 8 lety +17

When I went on the new Judi Dench version I thought to myself, it's as if they had a big meeting at Imagineering and the whole goal was to figure a way to make Spaceship Earth 25% less great. The changes make absolutely no sense. The only thing I can think of is they needed an interactive screen in the attraction so kids would not get bored. That is the only thing I can come up with. The Jeremy Irons narration was perfect and the music score was one of the most dramatic scores ever done for a Disney attraction. I can't come up with anything here...that's it. This is just such a mystery.

It's a shame they removed the city of the future as you decend backwards near throbbed of the ride, that was a beautiful city. The strange arrangement of lights and the interactive narrative that forces you to look at the screen in front of you really sucks. The old AT&T global neighborhood exhibits at the exit of spaceship earth have turned into Seimans' vip lounge. I can't believe it's been more than ten years since AT&T gave up their sponsorship.

They took out a majority of the ending just so we can focus on a cartoon clip of ourselves which always ends up being the same video and half the time the camera doesn't work so our faces are not on the screen. And also I wish they would bring back the old global neighborhood. I mean come on they took innoventions away from us. I wish they brought back the original Epcot Center. All I know is they are making Epcot to be like the Magic Kingdom where it focuses on movies and cartoons. Like Gardians should not be where Universe of Energy was....it should be at the MK where it belongs or even Hollywood Studios.

it jumps from the renaissance to the industrial revolution and then goes on to the 20th century. skips over the age of exploration but not much had changed in the communication world between those two points. by the American revolution, the printing press was only slightly more streamlined than the renaissance versions, and while people were becoming increasingly more literate, the big jump would come during the industrial revolution with mechanization. I'd say its a fairly understandable jump, going from 1512 with the Sistine chapel to what appears to be the mid 19th century. it's about the same leap from ~1100 to 1512.

I have thought about doing that! I may need to try this on my next trip. Current version just does not have the feel this one does.

Yep. It still syncs up until you get into the new scenes at the end. Much better than listening to the new cheesy version, especially during the Rome scene.

This was the best version of this ride. Sad how much they butchered it recently. No idea why they took out all the futuristic stuff at the end, it always gave me such chills.

It definitely became electronic babble ( I think that's what he said) in many ways. We all dislike each other, but on a global scale. We still get news and everything, but we can't stop arguing.

I was there in in 2012 and in regards to the burning Rome smell it was either broken or they took it out. And the chariot on the Mural was before they re-placed Jeremy Irons narration with the Judy Dench one.

  • @Winter-The-Masquerade

I hope that when SSE is redesigned I hope the new narration is as good as THIS One is. I think Dench is great but she just sounds like she was phony it in while Irons' is just iconic. This the story of humanity it should have narration that matches the story that creates all stories.
Also the second half of the ride right now SUCKS! It's just asking us how lazy we want to be and then like 10 minutes of watching a loading screen while in a black void, it's like being in the PS3 Era of loading screens only on a Disney Ride. And not just any ride on the Central Icon of WDW's second most iconic and popular theme park.
The previews for the new version looks good and I hope that it's as good as the original version. The idea of seeing the story of humanity as we see the light of storytelling evolve sounds great and fits with the central theme of the ride. I personally would love Irons to return to narrate the ride with the new story as his narration is just iconic.
Make the second half of the ride as good as it was in the original and it could rival if not surpass the original.

So glad that this is no longer used for Spaceship Earth. You can tell that it's old and tired just by listening to this compared to the newer, livelier Judi Dench version. I know that this is not the popular opinion, but it is just my opinion.

I keep expecting him to switch to Brideshead "On a sheep-cropped knoll under a clump of elms we ate the strawberries and drank the wine--as Sebastian promised, they were delicious together--and we lit fat, Turkish cigarettes and lay on our backs, Sebastian's eyes on the leaves above him, mine on his profile, while the blue-grey smoke rose, untroubled by any wind, to the blue-green shadows of foliage, and the sweet scent of the tobacco merged with the sweet summer scents around us and the fumes of the sweet, golden wine seemed to lift us a finger's breadth above the turf and hold us suspended."
