      Bård H you cant have your arm up that high on another player thats an easy call if her arm was against the canadian players side it would be clean but it wasnt, she was elbowing her in the jaw..

      If you run into my arm it`s not my fault. If that`s a penalty, there`s at least 10 penalties in most matches.

      Bård H arm is at her face level. Footy is a legs sports. Arms are a no no. You can't push, put your hands on players, tag shirts, or raise them up high to block players

    • @wrosgar
      @wrosgar Před 9 lety +7

      Bård H She didn't run into the arm. She ran for the ball and the Chinese player VERY clearly moved to cut the player off rather then playing the ball. The fact that she went to block the Canadian player from getting the ball by throwing her arm up to head height is so VERY clearly a penalty.

    It's hard to call a penalty shot in the dying minutes of the game, but the Chinese player was very clearly doing what she shouldn't be and the Canadian player played it up. Looking at the end game stats it's clear Canada was the one controlling the match so I'm not sour about the way it ended.

      Wrosgar isn't that type of foul rewarded with an indirect free kick instead?

    • @wrosgar
      @wrosgar Před 9 lety +2

      Art Vandalay I'm not 100% up on the rules, but I'm pretty sure in that position in the box a penalty shot is the only option.

    • @artyvandelayed
      @artyvandelayed Před 9 lety +2

      ***** Yeah you're both right, IFK I think would be if there's no contact

    • @Viridel648
      @Viridel648 Před 9 lety +2

      Art Vandalay Absolutely not. Indirects are used for technical violations (offsides, general dangerous play / high foot, etc.), when there is contact made, it MUST be a Direct Kick. Any D.K. violation in the box MUST be a Penalty. There is a bit of wiggle room at let's say the 17.5 yard mark (in the 18 yard Penalty Box) to "say" that contact was "initiated" outside the box, so a DK would not be a Penalty - clearly not an option here.
      The player had her arms in an unnatural position restricting the players ability to get the ball (Obstruction, Indirect Kick), but made significant and intentional contact with the head and neck of the player -> therefore Direct -> therefore PK.
      Referee was in great position, and made an instant and 100% correct call.

    • @Viridel648
      @Viridel648 Před 9 lety

      ***** There are several in-game offenses that can result in an Indirect in the box:
      Pass-back to the goaltender (who uses their hands)
      Obstruction (which that could have been if the contact didn't trump this lesser offense)
      Dangerous play / high foot (without contact)

And then there's China who barely had 1 or 2 chances getting to the net because Canada's defence is to strong for them to just go through, Canada has one of the best defenders in the whole World Cup, and she's only 19

  • @qiansu2001
    @qiansu2001 Před 9 lety +5

    It is normal for the defenders to open armers when playing defending, in fact, the Chinese defender opened her arm BEFORE the Canadian player rushed into the ball; so basically, it is not the arm hit the neck rather it is the neck jump into the arm and fall down. If the Chinese defender moved one step left, then it would be perfect block, but she didn't do that. I won't say the referee was "bad" or "bribed", it happened too fast, however, usually 9 out of 10 referee will be very cautious and not call it a penalty.

    • @Viridel648
      @Viridel648 Před 9 lety

      Ackim Mpofu "How was that ball a threat to the goal"
      The ball was in the box when it was crossed back into the middle, and remained in the box during the violation. That is absolutely a threat to the goal. Beyond that, goal scoring danger is irrelevant to the call. The foul occurred in the box. There can be no debate about this (right?). Because it was a contact foul, it is a direct kick. There can be no debate about this (right?). Because it's a direct kick foul taking place in the penalty box, it is a penalty shot. There can be no debate about this (right?). These are the rules.
      "and the other thing is she was not facing the goal when they blew the whistle for a penalty so
      basically she wasn't a threat to the goal. All I am its not a clear penalty hence controversial."
      As stated above, the eye-direction of the player is irrelevant. ALL that matters is the location of the foul. So there are two choices for two scenarios:
      If there is NO contact: Obstruction (Indirect free kick), or No Call. Surely no-call based on the game time and score, and you're right, lack of DIRECT threat at the goal.
      If there IS contact: Penalty kick or No-Call. Given that the arms were in an "unnatural position" (this term being addressed in an earlier follow-up), and used in a manner that was not purposed towards getting the ball, but at stopping the Canadian from getting it, there simply couldn't be "No Call".

  • @53greenhill
    @53greenhill Před 9 lety +6

    Let me explain that penalty kick call at the end.
    If two opposing players are going to head a goal kick (a 50/50 ball), and one contacts the others head with their arm (impeding), then it is always called as a foul. If the contact was shoulder to shoulder then it is no foul, but the contact was arm to head. Those that think it was head to arm are delusional, the Chinese player knew where the Canadian forward was and was trying to shield her from the ball. You cannot shield the ball by contacting an opponents head, it's a foul every time.
    The referee was in an excellent, unobstructed position to make the call and I'm certain she knows more about the rules of football than the closet hacks commenting on how bad a call it was. Whether the Canadian went down too easily is besides the point, the original contact was still a foul.
    BTW, the non-call in the NZ/Dutch game was not correct and was an even more glaring penalty than this one was.

      Brandon Chen Yeah and the chinese player had her arm outstretched for balance LOL If you slow down the video you see the Chinese player change direction and move to block the Canadian player while the ball was moving in the opposite direction away from her. Excuse the Canadian player for wanting to move towards the direction of the ball in play. This is not US football you are not supposed to "play the man" you are supposed to play the ball which she obviously was not that interested in doing. Pretty funny you want to talk about bad penalty no complaints from you about the earlier BS penalty shots given to china. In one case the Chinese played was just out run to the ball, but fell down, no elbow arms or anything need Chinese player, player falls, cue the drama classes and penalty kick for china.

    • @brandonchen9399
      @brandonchen9399 Před 9 lety +4

      Sid Hawkes lmao. Low blows. We are not talking about the "flop" you saw. We are talking about the penalty foul.
      1.you can use your arms to block an opponent as long as you have NO force towards the body or face (which was clearly the play)
      2. The Chinese player did not change direction until the Canadian player hit her arm.
      3. If the plan of the Chinese player was to block or harm the canadian player her arm would've stayed stiff, she clearly had loose arms as the face of the Canadian bent it with no force.

    • @Viridel648
      @Viridel648 Před 9 lety +1

      Brandon Chen Was the Chinese player standing still, or running and blocking to the path to the ball. Since yes to the second option, your point is irrelevant.
      "1.you can use your arms to block an opponent as long as you have NO force towards the body or face (which was clearly the play)"
      Holy crap - NO!!! If you make any move specifically to IMPEDE the player from the path of the ball, without having an intent to play the ball yourself, that's Obstruction. Using your arms to impede further just makes the call go from debatable to indisputable.
      "2. The Chinese player did not change direction until the Canadian player hit her arm."
      Change of direction is irrelevant. She stopped trying to make a play for the ball and concentrated on ensuring the Canadian couldn't get it.
      Point 3 is just so dumb that I won't waste my time discussing it.

    Is it an elbow to face or a face to the elbow? For me it looked more like the Canadian was running to the arm not vice versa! Also poor decision in New Zealand-Netherlands game where Dutch got away with clear penalty.

    • @Viridel648
      @Viridel648 Před 9 lety

      Allan Soomets Still can't have your arm in an unnatural position for the purpose of impeding or obstructing an opponent. Especially in soccer, since you can't use your arms to play the ball anyway.

    • @allansoomets7198
      @allansoomets7198 Před 9 lety

      Viridel648 True, for me it was one of these you can't much complain eather way just a little bit soft for my taste. I think you could call it obstruction and give away indirect free kick? Or has it changed?

    • @Viridel648
      @Viridel648 Před 9 lety +1

      Allan Soomets Honestly, there was nothing soft about it. If the defender would have grabbed her by the shoulder and pulled her back, that might have been considered "soft", but wouldn't change the fact the call would be right... In this case, the defender was both out of position, and quite careless. The contact to the head/neck made the call quite automatic. As for the Direct vs. Indirect question, I addressed that in another post... Re-quoted here for convenience:
      there are two choices for two scenarios:
      If there is NO contact: Obstruction (Indirect free kick), or No Call.
      Surely no-call based on the game time and score, and a lack of DIRECT threat at the goal.
      If there IS contact: Direct free kick (being a PK in the box) or No-Call. Given that the arms were in an "unnatural position" (this term being addressed in an earlier follow-up), and used in a manner that was not purposed towards getting the ball, but at stopping the Canadian from getting it, there simply couldn't be "No Call".
      Now, to be fair, "contact" can be pretty loosely defined either way - but I think you would have a tough time arguing against the fact that this contact significantly altered the path of the player to their intended target... Beyond that, hitting the head or neck will be called a contact (direct) foul every single time - and rightfully so.

    I thought both teams, though very different styles, were evenly matched in non-stellar performances. Canada got very lucky in being awarded the PK. But then again, luck is at least 10-20% of every game as referring can be very subjective and penalties are awarded very differently from region to region.

    I can't believe all the bitching about penalty kick given to Canada. Seriously? The Chinese player elbowed the Canadian in the head! How is that not a penalty? An elbow to the head is an elbow to the head and it's against the rules. The elbow also took away a Canadian scoring chance too. To me it doesn't matter if it's in the first minute of the game or the last minute, that kind of penalty should always be called. You can say the Canadian player embellished it all you want, but even if she did (which I don't think she did) you all seem to forget that 3 Chinese players barely got touched yet acted like they were dying which led to free kicks for them earlier in the game. So they have no right to complain about the other team diving. And China was outplayed plain and simple. They got exactly what they deserved.

      @sidhawkes3190 Před 9 lety +1

      The Joker She Just had her arm in the Canadians face LOL yeah she needed her arms out like that for balance LOL give me a break. I watched the clip in slow motion you can see the Chinese "defender" change direction with her feet moving towards the Canadian player and away from the direction of the ball, to put her body between the ball and the Canadian player, if you are playing US football this is exceptable, but your not allowed to "play the man" in soccer last I checked. She was blocking her from the ball not playing the ball which was heading in the opposite direction to the direction of her body. Of course the china supporters aren't talking about the BS penalty shots they were given in the game.

    • @lucianraphael9527

      And are you serious?
      What is wrong with standing in the way of your opponent in an attempt to get the ball away?
      Last time i checked there was nothing wrong with that.

    • @sidhawkes3190
      @sidhawkes3190 Před 9 lety +1

      Semantics pretty desperate of you, got the terminology wrong it was freekicks(multiple), not a penalty kick, big deal still several BS calls made by the official, in one case within striking distance to almost get a goal. But no mention from you LOL Problem for the Chinese is they fouled the Canadian player in the worst possible area, most good teams are extra cautious in that area. Problem she was not "standing" can't help you are blind. She moved towards the Canadian player, and away from the direction of the ball, if you ever looked at the video you would know this. You are just looking at actual impact last millisecond, she stopped, and made a further backwards step towards the Canadian player when contact was made. It was obvious to the referee that she was moving to block the Canadian player from the ball, not to play the ball. You are hopeless. See what you want to see, but the guy that started this thread was correct in his analysis

    • @sidhawkes3190
      @sidhawkes3190 Před 9 lety +1

      Clearly you are blind and aren't one to be calling anyone an idiot. The video is there, she moves towards the player, away from direction of the ball, it's in the video, but like I said you see what you want to see. Yeah and she need to extend her arm for balance lol, she knew what she was doing but you don't want to see it LOL No mention by you about the other calls by the ref, you just talk about this one, VERY telling LOL If the ref had let those other calls go and then called the the Chinese on that one play maybe you would have something, but she called the dives by the Chinese which you ignored, just bad luck that they got called for theirs in the penalty area. Ref wasn't forgiving on her calls, so whine as much as you want she chose to call it, it was still a foul though as the thread started had stated. I have seen the slow motion video, you have to look at player position before impact to see her intention was not to play the ball but the player, but you choose to ignore that,.She wasn't standing as you claimed, in fact stepped back towards the Canadian on impact.your cognitive abilities are obviously lacking. Have nice life, just don't sign up to ref anyone's game.

      Neil Olien Yes, and no. If she just jumped around to block (for the purpose of allowing a teammate to get the ball), that would be Obstruction (Indirect Free Kick). The contact is specifically what turns it into a PK.
