I wouldn’t say World Cup final was his best ever performance, he’s had much much better performances throughout his career, but in context of age and that it was for Argentina I grant you he was at the best he could be to finally write himself into history as the greatest player to have ever played the game. Seeing him win it made me cry cuz I’ve been amazed,astounded,gobsmacked, baffled, confused, dumbstruck, amused and on the edge of my seat so god damn many times watching this little man show the world how the beautiful game was mastered. And I laughed so hard when cr7 got knocked out of World Cup and saw him crying,icing on cake was when he realised no top teams were interested in having him when he left Man U, he got far too big for his boots and had to accept he just isn’t that good anymore. I just loooove how he understands and uses all the space around him, like if he notices that one way wont work (bc there are rival players blocking the way of the ball), he simply changes direction in a matter of milliseconds
And how he is completely aware of his capacities at this age, specially in terms of his lack of speed. He doesn't try to do things that he'd have done at 23. That requires a lot of self awareness and humility.

I think that Messi had to reinvent himself over the last years and we saw a peak of this new version this year in the WC. Younger Messi relied a lot in his acceleration, that why we witnessed so many dribbling goals, but it's impossible to keep that form until this age so now he has to play differently and he found a more strategic role, moving the strings of his teammates and assisting. We saw a lot of that with Argentina. I was paying attention and what this new Messi does without the ball is highly underrated, the only disadvantage is that it requires more freedom in the pitch from the DT and other players understanding his role, I don't think PSG has that.
