  • My second Covid recovery vlog, sharing my experience of getting back into running. It’s been a slow and stead process but I’m finally feeling much better. I’ve learned to rest more and trust my body and that has helped so much.

I hope you’re all doing well.

Thanks for the in-depth log on how you did getting back to running post covid-19.
I got infected april 24-26 this year, and did not have a particularily severe case. It lasted about 1 week, and then symptoms started to ease off. I am triple vaccinated (Comirnaty).
I then had a full marathon coming up on 15th of May 2022, and just to be sure I was in the clear, I got my blood checked and had an ECG before moving ahead. Everything looked fine.
Then came the big day! It was my first ever marathon (I was actually signed up the year before (2021), but then the pandemic shut everything down). I knew I had to adjust my expectations, and the dream I had about finishing in under 4 hours, was kinda not in sight for me mentally anymore. I was just going to run by how I felt, and finish it, no matter what!
The marathon ended up becoming a really hot one (20 degress C), considering all my training was done in temps below 10 degress C! But I managed to finish in the time 04:06:28 with bib #2699!
After the marathon, I had a strange sensation in my body. All the symptoms from covid-19 returned; shortness of breath, loss of taste and smell, heart palpitations and so on. And as a consequence my running suffered immensely from that! I had to slow everything right down! Even today 70 days post infection I am still not back to my former self.
I'm of to see a cardiologist on june 6th to get my heart checked. Hopefully, it was just a mild case pericarditis or something similar, but I need to know! In time, I will get through it. Of that I am certain.
    TL;DR
    Don't run a marathon 20 days post Covid-19!

Thanks for making this video. I am having lingering symptoms and what you described is similar to what I am experiencing. Feeling better, going out for a run, and feeling fatigued and symptoms getting worse for a day, etc. The medical field is recommending to increase exercise gradually, due to long term effect and cardiac risks.
How has it been since you made this video, 7 months ago. When did you feel you could focus on your training normally again?

Hi Eric, thanks for your comment. Now I am absolutely fine. I ran a PB marathon in October and managed to train well for it. It definitely took a few weeks, month maybe. I took it slowly and didn’t run long distances for a while. I think I started training properly in June/beg July so it was at least a month post Covid and I wasn’t doing more than 10k ish up to then. I hope you recover well.

How many weeks before you did your first run post recovery?

It was about 2 weeks after I tested positive that I ran about a mile and then gradually increased from that. I did do exercise whilst in isolation as I didn't feel too bad but actually felt worse a week or so into isolation. I think after 3 weeks after testing positive I was feeling much better - running between 5-10k but it took a while to build up
