That was pure robbery.
Brace not only jumped for joy at the last English try but then he clearly breathed a big relief. What a body language! All is said. As for the TMO, hats off too! great art.
Imagine being childish enough to come to that conclusion. Only if you were below the age of 13 would it even been mildly excusable.
@@somanytakennames facts only facts, see the video, it's obvious
@@somanytakennames Whether you think Bruce's comments childish or not is irrelevant, the point is Andrew grace is an appalling referee who has been allowed to mess up games for years. We want consistent and objective refs. However, Brace "the refereeing disgrace", kept Exeter in this one through some interesting calls.
Victim mentality, based only in wishful thinking and childish logic. He was jumping over a player who had gone to ground, and he breathed heavily because he's been running around for over 100 mins.
Additionally, there were only two big calls the refs got wrong: missing the forward pass for Montpellier's first try, and missing the Exeter player off his feet that should have made the no-try from the 73rd minute be a penalty rather than scrum to Exeter
Basically, 1 bad decision each way, and the bad call that went in Montpellier's favour helped them more than the other one hurt them
Shut up, get out, cry more, grow up.
@@tsherwood2112 No, you're wrong, he doesn't jump over a player, no one gets in his way and he breathes well from relief and not from the long run he didn't make before. You are the one who is childishly interpreting the facts to protect yourself from the real thing, that's called denial, that's all. There is no point in attacking other people's arguments by calling them childish.
That rule has to change.
lol which one?
@@Mr___X a draw is a draw, no matter how many tries you've scored
@@faysalennay9709 agreed, now what about the ridiculous application of the red card?
Harsh red card.
Incredible presents for Exeter…
Montpellier so unlucky
We call it theft, not bad luck... cultural difference no doubt
Et l'arbitre qui saute de joie pour le dernier essai : quel soulagement !
This ref. Brace was a joke…so is Carley…2 disallowed tries…one disputable red card…they might have given Exeter the win before playing…
Yes, Brace seems to be favoured by the IRB/WR because he is the model new referee. No feeling for the sport, but will pick up the most inconsequential technical offence to rule out a try/send off a player. He also doesn't handle pressure well, tends to unfairly back the team going forward, and seems to become erratic towards the end of a match. For a professional outfit, the standard of refereeing is genuinely so much worse than it was even 20 years ago. At least in the amateur era you knew the refs would be unfair to the away team - now the standard is just as bad, if not worse, and there's seemingly nothing teams can do to mitigate it.
@@Mr___X so correctly disallowing a try for blocking and sending a player off for a high tackle to the head make him a bad ref? He’s favored by the IRB because he calls the rules correctly. He didn’t make the rules, but he handled all the situations correctly. He let play go on as live it didn’t seem anything to him at the moment, TMO radios down tells him hey you need to look at this. He looks, sees he was wrong and corrects.
All this calling that the officiating was poor is just French fans being in their feelings for losing. That block stopped a prop from probably making a tackle on the player who eventually threw a pass that released the ball down the wing, the high tackle was a should directly to the head going upward. Red card in new laws and old, ball was knocked on it a ruck. Those aren’t calls that you can just say the ref blew they are unlucky breaks for Mont. but they were called correctly
@@haydengeorge956 Whatever makes you sleep at night cupcake🤣
@@haydengeorge956 That would not have been a red card under old rules, probably not even a penalty.
@@haydengeorge956 I'm Irish, not a French fan. Brace had the freedom to watch that mercer tackle multiple times and still came to the conclusion that "he was upright and there was a high degree of force" not to mention the ballcarrier was dropping. You can defend him all you want since your team benefitted from his decisions but the fact of the matter is montpellier were robbed by incompetent refs
This should have gone to penalty shootout, the whole scored more tries despite level scores is BS
You would probably be complaining if it did.
@@Kevin-lf4xx why would I complain when it's far more fair?
Agreed
Agreed, ridiculous way to decide a match. Penalty shootouts in rugby are a novelty, and as silly as they mean seem, it's a fairer way to settle a match than deciding one team has 'won' when the scores are level at the final whistle.
@@Mr___X I don't care for penalty shootouts but this garbage of more tries or who scored first is a disgrace
When are these referees going to be stopped from influencing rugby games in this manner. The integrity of rugby is being jeopardised What a pity!
Joy Neville as TMO with Andrew Brace as ref has to be the most cursed combo in rugby. The soul of the game is being ruined for the sake of officious busybody sharp elbowed types.
Complaining about the Ref is bad. You will get banned
@@khethokuhlemvelase9822 Yeah long live the corrupt referees
its not exeter chiefs its exeter thieves
GG. Garbisi, what class.
Bit of a joke with the who scores more tries rule.
just a bit
This was such a robbery that Brace awarded Montpellier the opportunity to draw level at the end of regular time, which is definitely something a referee trying to get Exeter through to the next stage would do.
"He's off to Ulster ... he's off to paradise" 😂😂😂
This referee is not fair. I hope he never referees a France game in the world cup.
😅
The TMO showing up on each decisive actions at some points without being called + not reviewing potential foul plays against Montpellier. Neville appeard very suspicious today, more than the field ref himself.
The TMO doesn't make the decision.
@@noelpucarua2843 But highly influences it.
@@Frugbyy Maybe the TMO would influence you. But that doesn't mean a TMO would influence a referee. The Ref knows the decisions their's, and will have to account for it.
@@noelpucarua2843 You are willingly blind
@@ethanmakulit238 No. The Ref makes the decision.
If you disagree you can give me an instance where the TMO makes the decision.
Go for it.
The referee was incoherent : same faults on both sides (exemple high tackles) but Exceter was never blamed. Red card for Montpellier, nothing when Exceter did it.
I don't understand
Good luck to Exceter
Yes, not understanding is sadly what they want. They want to devalue the sport and disenfranchise long time supporters and amateur stakeholders so it can be changed as a professional business in to something totally different.
With the anglos it's always like that
I’ m not agree, bad Luck to exeter
Red card canceled.
Nice referee, hope he will a great career 😂
@@philippedevine5124 classic 😜
Great game, but the high tackle rule is destroying rugby. If they applied the rule about touching the head to the players celebrating after the try, about three of them would have been yellow carded.
Basil I agree, I've seen so much of this and the players have never been hurt from it, just crazy!!
Agree. It's absurd at the moment
Destroyed, not destroying. It's too late, the inconsistency is the point: you're meant to become apathetic about it and accept that "rules is rules", except no-one understands the rules, they can change every year, they have wildly different interpretation and outcomes...shall I go on?
Wonderful spectacle however as a neutral this high tackle law is making each game a lottery . Why would you travel to big games as a supporter any more … it’s really killing our sport .
Theres a reason viewership and general participation has fallen off a cliff.. the sports gone soft
French were robbed red card a joke from a neutral. Exeter struggled against 14
Very bad referee. A robbery
Never in doubt.
Exeter mérite la sorti j'espère que le top 14 va dépouillé ce club en faillite

bravo à brace d'avoir gardé en vie exeter pendant 99 minutes Belle performance
What a trilling match to watch!
Did the Stormers do something to hurt you EPCR? No highlights yet from yesterdays afternoon game. :/
Agree!! On both counts :)
Anglo-Saxon mafia...
Not sure if Baxter a fool or brilliant leaving Hodge,Yeandle & Ewers on the bench until 60th minute but Chiefs & Joe Simmons were huge.Thank u Chiefs for nearly giving me a coronary😂 Pls bring in Hogg & Vermeulan for next week 😅
Exeter getting the rub of the green for sure. Not a red card, he was bent over to tackle.
Not sure what you’re looking at 😂 clear red shoulder straight to the head knees bent but zero waist bend to get low clear red under the laws
Totally ok with your comment. Il n'y a absolument pas carton rouge. Dans ce cas, on ne touche l'adversaire !
@@haydengeorge956 naah. Watch the appeal .. 3 weeks will be reducef to 2 weeks (ie: shudda been yellow).
@@MrRugbylane DId you just contradict yourself? Should have been a yellow but still gets a 2 week ban?
@@Karma-qt4ji Nope if a red card ban is reduced from three weeks to two, it signals it should have been yellow. If its removed completely it means it isnt even a penalty
Does anyone else think the word force is being misused in these red cards?
So many are accidental head contacts with hardly any force. Yes we want to minimise head contacts but this is a physical sport they are going to happen, reds should be reserved for malicious or extremely reckless acts, not these accidental hits.
un vol
WOW!!! The Frenchies were robbed so badly, I thought the ref was part of the Exeter team. 2 disallowed tries down to 14 men, no way a red card. Exeter two forward passes leading to a try etc... MATCH FIXING AT ITS BEST.
Yes. Must be match fixing, that’s definitely the conclusion a logical person comes to.
I was at the game and the Frenchies got plenty go in their favor
Just standard IRFU refereeing tbh.
It's always funs to see the reactions other people have when it comes to test/European rugby. Now you get to see what everyone else has to stomach in the Yoo Are See! Not pretty, is it?
@@Powerofmorris84 Frenchies?? You went to school? Typical Southern English ass.
Immediate dislike, no chance in hell a draw let's a home side advance in cup competition. Absolute joke. Even PK's would be more fair than that.
Gotta feel for Montpellier, showed a lot of resolve. But glad it didn’t go beyond extra time, penalties would’ve been awful.
Terrible way to end on tied scores!!
Well done World rugby for ruining the game
C'était pas Barnes l'arbitre pourtant
It is truly a shame for the sport! There is so much attached to this sport: enthusiasm, passion, even grief in the moment of defeat, but this regulation makes the sport ridiculous! Something urgently needs to change so that one of the darkest hours of this sport will not be repeated and the decision of victory or defeat will be fought out on the pitch.

That ref needs standing down and investigating.
Well.... juste a huge robbery, objectively. Thanks mr Brace for that. How is that possible???
Exeter hold UP
So what was the point of extra time when the scores were even again ?
Harsh red
How was that penalty Exeter when yer man is clearly playing it on the ground. Joy has some odd takes
Kicking shoot-out might have been a better way to end this game.
Vraiment dommage comme résultat. Cette remontada du bout du monde de Montpellier qui arrache la prolongation avec une pénalité gagné après avoir remonté 80m. Tout ça pour se trouer sur la dernière action du match. Terrible.
listening to the accents of the refs, not hard to figure out what's going on here.
What a game of rugby this was . Proper game
What a theft... 😮😮
How is that red the mitigation is clear hes the secondary tackler
Surely if a coach instructs his team to play scrabbling about on their knees only, they can't be red carded ?
Congrats to Exeter!!
Exeter's referees. Montpellier has been robbed too badly by the irish couple of referees
Welsh ref
I'm new to rugby, can someone explain me why the Chiefs won if the game was tied?
Not a fan of either team, but this tries deciding games when a match is a draw rule is ridiculous. Rewards indiscipline. They've really ruined the HCup.
Didn't think Montpellier would come back from that stupid red and almost win.
ADMINISTRATION where is the stormers highlights ,stop taking a piss. I missed the game.
Rugby becoming a farce. Primary school teachers playing god.
Extra time is stupid, I thought we weren't like football, whoever scored first overtime should have been it
Red card kills the game what have they done to the sport s😢😅
Looks like the Stormers have nothing to fear.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Bravo l'arbitre pro-exeter. C'est une honte.
Why did Exeter win here ?
they scored more tries
Daylight robbery!
So many sour grapes - how the hell are penalties better than trys scored? Mind you the red was harsh.
Because 33-33 is a draw, no matter how you got the points. Imagine if this was a final and your team scored less, you'd be furious. It should either be penalties, go to a replay, or be first try scored in extra time. Deciding on a winner at a 33-33 scoreline like this is nonsense. This rule needs to go.
Exeter where dragged over by the ref.
Hard for Montpellier... They did a great game. Red card following the rules, but this rule in this case is ridiculous
the rules allow for discrection and factoring, this ref just reached a realy poor decision!
Congrats to Exeter, but also thanks to Montpellier for some scintillating rugby; the last try was a thing of great beauty. This red card rule has to change. As in so many cases, there was clearly no intent to cause injury, but still the man is evicted and the dynamic of the game is changed beyond redemption. It just seems very unfair to the players and the fans alike.
Is it the only weird thing you noticed about the match?
I don't know why people are complaining about that red, montpellier were pretty dirty, quite south african by type. Deffinately a red, player propells his shoulder into Chiefs players head, no attempt to wrap or get in a proper tackling position.
That's why red card was cancelled
@@marcb.1114 Seems soft, it was reckless at best. However Montpellier should have had at least a couple more yellows in the match kissed so probably evens itself out.
Even if Andrew Brace followed the order of his chiefs, i think this irish ref and tmo should have a serious look into their mirror this week. Multiplying efforts to influence a result, and didn't even tried to hide it😂 One severe red card vs Mercer, 3 disallowed Montpellier tries, one-sided TMO decisions. For Montpellier, it was like playing a game at 14 vs 17 players. The message was clear: "No 3 french clubs allowed in 1/4 finals"
It was a draw? How do exeter win
I do not understand why did Exeter win if the team are level ?
some of these red card contacts seem to just haeppen as a normal from time to time event... especially when you consider some player height or other elements!
Pure robbery from rosbifs as usual
est-ce une plaisanterie?
firstly the red card was a bit harsh, yes it is to the head but there wasnt enough force to give a red and secondly a draw is a draw, why invent the penalty 3 points if they wont be taken seriously in such games?
Don't think that deserved to be Red however the criticism of the referee that I see is nonsense, under the laws as written it is probably a red and he was correct with the disallowed tries ,as well as helping to facilitate a wonderful game of rugby that was a pleasure to watch as a neutral.
you can see here that you obviously didn't watch the same game as the other commentators. I tend to really avoid criticism of the refereeing when I disagree with the decisions or consider it has been poor but this was something completely different and on another scale; the ref was clearly biased and Exeter would never have qualified without his active support. Its the first time I ve entertained doubts about the honesty of the game
@@laurentdupasquier7872 Well you are entitled to your opinion but I have a different opinion and thought the referee had a good game , if you want to see some poor refereeing I suggest you watch La Rochelle v Gloucester where the English team got bugger all for 80 minutes and were still winning against the odds with a few minutes left , or the performance of the French ref in the Stormers v Quins match where his interpretation of the law book was significantly different to most of Western civilization.
@@neilcarpenter2669
doubt you're neutral and that is also a bit of whataboutery. Anyway talking about neutrals read reviews from other countries ( Irl , NZ etc ) and even some English reviews and they are also very critical. There are clearly some problems linked to this particular ref , check out his other games and you'll see it s not the first time
@@neilcarpenter2669 Well, Rob Baxter himself (Exeter coach) has also said the crowd had probably influenced the ref decisions. So if you don't see anything...you're probably not as neutral as you think. In France, Brace is known for always taking weird decisions against french teams. He has been massively insulted, threatened after France lost against England in 2021, after the Autumns cup final. He said that was a scary situation (I believe him), that he has been really upset by the situation...But it has obviously added some more anger against the frogs. Sometimes the ref is not good, but he was appalling on that Exeter Montpellier game...and will surprisingly will be on the pitch next sunday for the La Rochelle / Saracens game. You can be sure that in case the game is tight, La Rochelle will be out.
What a robbery.... TMO and the TV director should be put in jail... What a shame for the rugby world
Forget result, I'm a neutral, I don't care, the red card seemed very harsh to me.
Why did the chiefs pass with a draw
5 tries against 4.
They scored more tries (or trys? Sorry I'm not english)
@@matteotravaini1950 More trys
Super game!
I hope the refs got a cut for this. It's just sad to see how if your team's country doesn't speak English, the game starts trailing by a try.
Is it the same referee than Chelsea versus Lyon in women football ?
Matches in England are quite impossible to win as refs always decide to let anglo-saxon teams win.
Sure they do. That’s why the ref awarded Montpellier a chance to draw the match at the end of regular time right?
Clearly idiots like you don’t think before they type.
You watch the Gloucester game vs La Rochelle ? 😂 swings and roundabouts
@@danielfletcher4315la Rochelle is in England? Didn’t know.
Bla bla cry more.
I agree that the French have a tough time in general, given the UK connections most of the time. But this was not the case here, Andrew Brace is just a bad referee.
Andrew Brace is such a mediocre referee, he shouldn't officiate at this level
Red was BS, player was going down, te second tackler also lowered his height, when you look the player dropped his head,
the Montpellier 8 stood his ground, he never went into the tackle, there was no force from him, the force was from the Exeter player going down, how can the ref say what he did
Alot of bitterness here, which surprises me, more akin to football.
By the letter if the law the Red was correct, but no one with a sensible head on would deny it was harsh.
The disallowed try was correct, clear obstruction that prevented a tackle that could have prevented a try.
Should the game have ended with winners based on tries scored. This would have been known by all teams in the competition. Obviously harder to score tries than kick for penalties, so no problem with that. I have never liked penalty shootouts in rugby, its too football for me, another 10 each way with benched subs being able to return perhaps?
If the Exter Chiefs play like this against the Stormers they will get smashed, we just worried about NH refs
the public should be allowed to vote of which referees get to officiate at a world cup! if the poor referring continues (plus poor rules) then this is the only way they can make their voices heard except for not turning uptpoa gamewhere a ref is announced!
Un arbitre de "haut vol"!!!

very bad luck Montpellier, 2 tries, 1 red card, 1 yellow card . . . . .
Will be turning to touch ball passing in the near future.. rip 🏉.

The red cards are completely ruining the game, and these awful robotic refs are loving handing them out, game is a joke these days, watch nrl instead
Mr Brace and Miss Neville shoudn't serve of referees during the rest of this competition, with a scandalous red card that at least was a yellow one, and same actions without any video or same card....the best team lose the game because their incompetence !
An absolute nonsense that red card
I loved the heart and skill on display but once again it wasn’t a fair match. I’m losing the love for this game. Reds are killing it. Crowds and fans are being groomed to cheer and jeer for reds like fools. This is not the rugby way. It’s a tough game for tough men being suffocated by the cult of safety.
