Control4 - Inexpensive, easy to maintain, easy to install.
Savant - Expensive, elegant devices, fantastic app, best for luxury properties.
Crestron - For large property Crestron is the most suitable automation technology. Very hard to program, but if you can find an experienced dealer there should not be any problem. Don't forget to tell your Crestron dealer to hand over source code after the contract ends. Put it in the contract.

i'm sorry to tell you that your crestron ui looks incredibly dated and clunky. i've no doubt the programming behind it works absolutely fine, but man those iphone 3 icons and giant buttons everywhere would have me very disappointed if i had to look at them every day after paying crestron money for a system
Banano79 people at a certain level refuse to respect aesthetics. they only value function. they need to keep their eye on the prize. profit is the real goal. You need good enough design and good enough function, for peak profit.
They have updated it now, and it looks much much more modern. If you Google ti and look on Google Images, you can see it, or if you look at their own channel, their latest videos show the new ui.
I think you can make your own icons now via crestron graphics
Agree. Can't imagine a multi-million dollar home build with that ancient UI. Imagine that hanging on the wall - it would be eyesore every time you pass by.
The graphic design is created by the integrator.

Control4 does not stand behind their products. Bought two of their very
expensive wall mounted control screens. Both started leaking the fluid
that is behind the screen so now I have this gooey liquid running down
the face of each one. Worst part is that Control 4 won't stand behind
them. They offered a 10% discount on new ones that cost $800 each. Plus you can't do anything without talking to a Control4 tech or a local Control4 installed / admin.

Had Control 4 fitted for a couple of years now and in the main the system works and does it's job. However, we have quite a few rooms where we've never used the system, a few of the remotes have developed a fault with the screen going really dim even on it's highest setting. This is a known fault with quite a few customers complaining about this issue. I contacted the dealer and even though the remotes in question never have being used and it being a known issue Control 4 won't replace them due to the warranty period. I find the warranty stance by Control 4 on a known issue to be ridiculous. After spending over 100k on a system I would have expected Control 4 to replace units that have a know fault.
That's an absolute bummer and a compete no brainer of a warranty swap. I had a very similar situation at a customers house where I installed a URC total control system. I warrantied the remotes, and thankfully URC understood the situation and swapped out the remotes without issue. Hopefully the system continues without issue for you.
Installed a $70,000 c4 system that never worked properly and the engineers of Control4 came down and just scratched their heads
in the end they said their processors weren’t quick enough to process their own lighting, there own amplifiers, and their own controllers.
c4 wouldn’t make it right with the client when quicker processors came available for an upgrade so their system could work properly.

You can accomplish more today with 20,000 then you used to be able to but I used to do systems over 1 million incorporating all of the sub systems, lighting,av, cctv, Home Theater, hvac, pool/fountain, crestron, etc.

surprised URC and RTI aren't part of this.
They dont carry either of those. Plus URC, RTI, Elan are smaller than this 3 in terms of brand recognition
What’s up with crestron? Did they stop doing residential? I mean I feel like it’s about time. And now that cobtrol4 updated their interfaces, I think it’s a clear winner.
I always regarded crestron as cream of the crop, but now I’m starting to see cobtrol4s bright future. But I can’t see savant as much of a competitor

Lutron is primarily a lighting control system as opposed to a full home automation system
Lutron is one of the best lighting control systems in the world, as is the Crestron control system

Or you could go with Home Assistant and integrate basically anything you can imagine, plus keep up with new stuff coming out all the time ;)
And you can do set up, simple programming and upgrades yourself vs paying an integrator.
Yeah. Google and Amazon seem to support more features and easier to set up. Plus with these options, you can swap out for other brands and I'm sure it would be cheaper or I hope.
you could but thats not the market of these systems, would you sell home assistant to your grandparents and tell them to go set it up themselves or even ask some random local company to set it up for em? any DIY smart home system like that requires someone savvy enough to set up themselves and overall maintenance to the system at least once a month... point is thats not reliable or seemless for someone who doesnt know tech to use and trust.. also people with money and large homes do not care about cutting corners for DIY stuff and have to manage the system themselves, its once again the need for easy and reliable... not that home assistance cant be easy or reliable but you cant set it and forget it
@@edokid Oh I understand the market, if you want an out of the box working system with no fuss and no huge effort put into it, you have the money and are willing to accept you will always be a few months/years behind bleeding edge stuff, more power to you, it is obviously what the majority of people would choose. But if you believe you get more raw functionality out of C4 than a well set up HA, you are just deluding yourself ;)
True but now that Logitech stopped making remotes, I feel like I’m being forced into one of these systems. I’ve been dying to adjust lights and thermostat from a PHYSICAL remote with Physical buttons

Lets be clear. They are selling their Flavor of Crestron here in this video. What you see in this video with crestron may not reflect your setup or install.

I guess it does have to do with who your integrator is because the Crestron system at my job really sucks. They spent easily over 250K to 300K and shit just not working as it should. They got fed-up and finally dumped their ass. I believe they’re now stuck trying to find one who can handle such a complicated system. I have Control4 at home and I’m extremely happy with the system.😊 from my experience. It seems that most people are going with Savant or Control4 at home. A few dealers- friends of mind are even saying they prefer Savant or Control4.
That because Crestron is a bit more program intensive, but also the more customizable of them. They have Pyng, which more of a C4 approach
Crestron is dated and their touch screens are shit. Ever walked into a conference room at work and been frustrated when you have to tap 8 times to get HDMI input on the screen? That's probably Crestron.
your problem is the integrator not the Crestron brand , he is not qualified to do user friendly GUI
Mo Man no. Their app is garbage and their touch screens are garbage. That’s not something integrators have control over.
I disagree with you as I spent over 10 years working with it as an integrator and till today I didn't receive a single complain from any one of my customers. it is totally customized as you like it to be, in other words I am doing what the end user like to have this is why all my customers are happy and a friendship started between us.

@@courtenayblair2279 Yeah and that's part of the problem. I don't want some integrator designing a UI. Savant and Control4 have beautiful, modern mobile apps and have spent millions honing in their UIs.
I am in the AV/Smart Home industry. This is a very scary topic to put out in a video on the internet representing a company. I don’t live in the North Carolina area as I am in PA.
But how he explain it was extremely professional and good information.
If you are in the NC area.... and being in the industry... these guys are legit.
Or he (himself) is a extremely well rehearsed. But still... if he is then I would gather the team is as well. Personally, I favor toward Control4 assuming the dealer is on point. And dealers matter... important.... dealers matter regardless.

I thought this was a true comparison of the newer OS3 and the actual interface, Not just another sales ad using outdated over priced confusing panels and ridiculous integration. These days, you can easily setup and entire smart home with far less than these bloated products. Wifi and Streaming with IP control is really all you need, especially if you don't need to watch the same Apple TV on every screen at once.( No Overpriced 4k switcher needed. ) With the advent of 4k streaming included with every TV on the market and PoE speakers, it's easy to integrate whole home audio using and iPAD or smart phone. I'd much rather offer my customer a better screen and speakers vs. a hugely expensive control system. These companies think that they are the only game in town! We'll that game has changed.

Control 4 for the win!
I have Apple Homekit and I can control every aspect of my home. And a very nice sleek user interface. I also have a Homepod which I can verbally control my home. These interfaces you show look so outdated.

Bruno Maciel I have two august locks, lighting in the home is all from LIFX, I have the LiftMaster hub to open my garage, I have iDevices switches that control other spotlights and outlets, I have 2 ecobee thermostats, Logitech circle 2 cameras. Everything runs smooth. I have two Apple homepods that control the home by voice. The HomeKit app works flawless. And I’m not restricted to using Savants, Cestrons own outdated looking smart devices. Oh and I have Sonos that I control through Apple Music. I also have the smart smoke detectors from alert One. I play music through my sonos speakers, HomePods, and all the smoke detectors.
@@Esignn Many thx! I'm doing my apartment up and looking for a solution that works with Siri/Homekit but I couldn't found any100% for now:/ Maybe the best way will be buy each device separated. PS: The best mobile app UI is Savant IMO. Sorry for my bad english.

@@Esignn youre not controlling any video and are limited to how much interaction between devices as well as actual automation. Home kit is another form of control with some automation. These systems focus on automation first, with control interfaces
Oh yes these companies have technology that is better than Samsung, Google or Apple. (Sarcasm) I do like Lutron light switches but used with Samsung Smartthings or another open source smart home hub like Hubitat or Home Assistant and a voice assistant lik Google Home or Apples Siri or Amazon Alexa. The companies in this video cant comepete with open source hubs like Samsungs smartthings...when you consider that Samsung makes so many things like Fridges or TVs that are designed to work with its Samsung Smartthings the seamless compatibility issues become clear. Then your cell phone and tablets are probably a Samsung or Apple, so wouldn't the Samsung or Apple hub be the logical choice? Your tablets and phone are how you watch cameras and do everything or use these other companies remote control to work with Samsung or Apple...

Start with Samsung Smartthings hub or Hubitat hub. Both are powerful and support lots of device makers including all the major ones. Both are use friendly, simple and easy to learn but if you or someone in the home has the desire for more functions these hubs offer far more powerful features and the ability to take home automation to the limit of your imagination especially for those who like to tinker.

C4 - dissappointed customer. Expensive, clunky, not supported, hopeless dealer network that need to charge $$$$every time the C4 system goes on the fritz or needs modification. Only user solutions offered is to reset the breaker to re-boot the system. After install immediately obsolete. Feels like they take pride in stiffing their customers!
I think you hit on the exact point Audio Advice is trying to make. We've been one of the largest Control4 integrators in our state for many years and a dealer for almost 15. With every system we've taken over from a competitor the issues are either the network or the programming...rarely is it the Control4 gear itself. Yes, sometimes their stuff fails but unfortunately with Control4 there are very few programming rules that prevent an integrator from building a crappy system. And we have a huge frustration with Control4 that they will sign up just about anyone, resulting in a constant turn of new dealers that are installing faulty systems. Guaranteed Control4, Crestron, Savant will be forced to go into the "low end" home automation market as amazon and google become more mature.
Not for Homes more then 8000 Square feet though. Google and amazon will be great for apartments and most of people but for larger homes a Solid integrated platform like C4 would be recommended.
Can anyone tell me the difference. I thought all of the Amazon and Google brands could do the same thing. The only pros for the companies in this video that I know is that everything is integrated with each other and integrated inside the home. Would Amazon and google be more flexible options in terms of swapping out devices for newer and better features?

I have a hard time seeing how not buying smart bulbs, smart shades, smart cameras that all have respective apps from your phone are any worse than paying for a customized solution.
The issue with that becomes the ability to get them all to perform functions together in scenes. It also means you will have to have a multitude of apps in order to control all of the devices throughout the home. Having one interface for all is a HUGE time saver and becomes much easier for the end user to comprehend.
I have Crestron, I think it is rubbish . It is always glitchy and software outdates quickly and basic upgrades are expensive. If you consider yourself an Audiophile or Av enthusiast who seeks the best picture and best sound move on!
these systems are dated as hell. you can see they are really trying to push a dying automation solution. My solution i am prototyping has facial recognition, AI , azure IoT and more. you guys are so far behind the ball now. this is top of the line early 2000's automation. We 2019 bro, move with the tech or get left behind.
from a professional custom integrator, using the name control4 and Crestron in the same sentence is blasphemy.
