- The most honest, transparent, no BS video we have EVER done. Literally taking you through pretty much every element of a Control4 smart home and explaining the costs. From design right through to aftercare. We even talk you through a few of our projects and explain how much the cost.
We wanted to show people planning a project or self build that this level of smart home is possible with the correct budgeting - the most important part is getting that prewire in! I also wanted to show that despite the nature of what we do being so totally bespoke - there is a space for transparent and fair pricing and HNWIs shouldn't be extorted on these systems because of their wealth status or how many cars they have on the drive...
So here it is, all the questions about what goes into a Control4 smart home and a breakdown of all the costs ....

Really interesting this. As someone looking to get into this space next year, great to see all the pieces broken down. Looking forward to getting on your course soon.

Absolutely love your work Rich, your a true inspiration to newcomers in the game. Keep up the great work 👍🏻
Much appreciated
Great job on this. Good to see that you can start at the low end and add bits as you go if needed. Thanks for sharing
Cheers
Thanks for the video very formative. Crazy how powerful control 4 is... As a sparky it would be awesome to start doing more of this kind of work .
Amazing video Rich! Well done again!
Quality brother 👊🏽👍🏽
Loved the price breakdowns, which would allow for additions as budgets allowed, and costs were lower than I expected, notwithstanding the standards of finishings required.
Appreciate it ✌️💪
Literally just uploaded a short about price increases since we uploaded this video so check that as well if you’re interested
Love this transparency!
Cheers!
Excellent guys 👌🏻
Nice video, do you always use the same brand of led tape?
Great video. Been doing my own smart home projects for a while now. Do you get involved with Fibaro at all? If so what do you think of it. Cheers
Excellent presentation, 👌
Very professional well done 👍
Thanks Jordan! Give it a share on your channel.
Very detailed. Very good. Would love to do some training with this team in future
Great to see an open and honest price list.
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video as usual guys 🤟
🤙
Very impressive Sir!
Well organize in South Africa to you do training for control4?
Awesome ..... thanks
You said that the price of installation is included with all of these costs. What exactly is the price of installation? Do you go have a day rate? Or do you charge for labour differently given the large amount of time you can sometimes spend on a job?
Great video. What size space would you need for a rack and termination.?
It depends on the size of the system and multiple other factors - our design team have managed to fit plant rooms in some very small areas and we would be able to work something out.
Your video is very well done.
Thanks! Well be doing an updated one sometime this year as a lot has changed since 2020
Great video but if company's are starting up they may not immediately have a social media presence but that does not always mean they do not have the knowledge and skills to complete the project.
Do you guys have any preferred builders you like working with?
Hi there,
Depends on the job really!
For new build projects the client will typically have someone already working on the construction side of the project. For retrofit jobs little construction work is usually required as we are putting the tech in a house that has already been built. Hope that makes sense and thanks for the comment!
Great video! I love learning about Control4. What kind of security system brands does Control4 integrate with if any?
Quite a few!
For the alarm system we usually use Texecom, motion sensors we use GJD external sensors and for CCTV its usually Hikvision but we'll often use Lilil, Dhaka, Luma as well.
Often the client already has an external company in place for all of the security systems so its usually a case of just integrating it the C4 system
Seems like Loxone can do about 85% what this does at 1/2 the price. With on-line streaming and Chrome cast or Apple TV do you even need a video distribution server or all that wiring?
Remote control? Ditch that for a IPad.
Exactly. It does 85% not everything. Every control system has its pros and cons. We chose to specialise in Control4 for its level of integration + price point.
iPads and tablets have absolutely nothing on a traditional remote control when you want to use a TV. Our clients would say the same
@@ArtofSmartUK anyone under 50 just streams everything online. Personally I just find what I want on my phone then cast it to any or all TVs. Cable and remotes are over IMO.
oioiii!
Now to get it done in Texas 🤣
Never say never! 👀
All my ex’s live in Texas.
How can all of those homes almost be the same amount. One was £50-90k and one triple the size was the same cost. Both all singing all dancing. Just doesn’t make sense. I thought that huge house 9000sqm house would of cost over £130k at least.
Which homes are you specifically talking about in this video?
These are ballpark figures to show potential clients what you can spend. Many people in the industry at the time this was filmed/published weren't giving out any information on prices at all.
Also the size of the property doesn't necessarily mean more expensive - we've done some small homes that have had full spec expensive systems and other larger homes that have had basic systems put in which they can expand on. It's all down to the customer preference.
Steer clear of control4... You can't make a simple change for your self. You can't repair your self .. this means you don't own the product... Just don't buy in to it
There are lots of things that you can customise yourself but as it is a premium product it requires a specialist to make adjustments, you would try service a Lamborghini yourself would you?
If you are having any issues with your C4 system or know someone that is then please feel free to contact us at hello@aos-group.co.uk 😃
@@ArtofSmartUK yes I would. If I owned a lambo I would would pull it apart and see how it works.. because it would be mine.. I could even get 3rd party stuff for it. I could even mod it if I wanted. Sorry your argument is invalid.... I have no options but to reverse engineer to keep my control 4 going when it breaks as ( wrote my own tool ) as I do not believe I should have to pay 400$ for some one to come out only to login in to the dealer app and let me do the changes my self. Just a joke.... If I had known how leaching control4 company is when it comes to there hardware before spending 30k on my installation... I advice if you want any control, just stay clear..
It honestly sounds like you’ve had a really bad experience with a C4 dealer where you live, please feel free to get in contact with us as we always want to try and help everyone that’s having a bad experience so we can show how great Control4 is when installed and dealt with correctly 👍
@@ArtofSmartUK my issue is control4 won't give me the keys to the device I paid for with out paying a dealer when I can do it my self! . It ain't hard to use the dealer tool. I learnt it in about 2 hours. But nooooo. Can't use the software unless I pay a dealer to come out.. if they come out.... They sit there while I program the system.... Basically paying some one to do nothing!.... I own the castle. Give us the god dammed keys to it... I had to resort to installing a key logger on my machine so when they entered there dealer codes.. I got about a month's use before there creds changed!!!!!!!!! Avoid control4. It's no longer 2005.. it's 2021 seeking rent from an item already bought is a joke ..
@@freibuis The Faradite Motion sensors are pretty cool. I just watched the whole presentation and also noticed: The client does not and cannot have full control over Control 4. If I were to pay 100,000 for a whole integration+hardware+installation etc I'd want to change and tweak settings on a weekly basis. It's practically investing into tech just to be left in tech Prison - locked out. I was so stoked to choose Control 4 for my new house build (4000 Square Feet) but not anymore :o
Can the house alarm be broadcasted throughout all the speakers and add an outdoor 1 KM range megaphone ?
2. I don't see or hear any videos about voice control integration. Does UK not use Smart Home Voice control like Google, Alexa, Siri, Bixby ?
Are Smart home systems compatible with Ubiquiti PoE?
Your prices seem very inflated. The ethernet and low voltage wires, and sensors don't cost that much. Would you allow clients to supply the Ethernet Spools?
Does your company have Cat7 ethernet wiring? It's a 2.5GbE home.
:)
To answer the title question: too much, especially since it’s unreliable.
If that’s how you feel then that’s fair 🤙
