Non Stop Spotted Bay Bass Action in Huntington Harbour!

- Both air and water were freezing (by Southern California standards), but the spotted bay bass fishing was on fire in Huntington Harbour/Anaheim Bay! While the quality of fish might have been lacking, the quantity definitely was not! I wasn't able to get any action on the underspin Keitech combo, but the spotties were loving the 1/4oz Red Crab Hookup Bait! We even made a little stop at the local "secret spot" and scored a couple more spotties on the way back home!

Just found your videos Dan. Really enjoy them; new subscriber. Humbling to see you catching fish in the same areas that I don't. But, I learned a thing or two watching. Probably passed a time or two as I periodically launch out of Seabridge about sun up . I am the old guy with tangled lines in the grey yak.

You do well in your kayak. Not too old to cut the mustard eh. I used to fish the bay in the 70s for what we called butter mouth perch. A nice one was 1.5lbs, while a rare one broke 2 lbs. Would get our muscles bait under the line dock back then and tie on the hook with thread. If it was incoming tide time, we would go a few yards plus to the river for the 1.5 to 3 lb Benito

What three rod and reel combos you use? I just got my kayak went out twice. Just want to make sure I’m setup properly. Right now I have a 7’ abu Garcia vengeance on a Shimano Citica 200g7 with 20lb braid, flouro leader. Using to throw 3/8 led heads and swimbaits. Second is a 7’6 13 fishing defy m/h with a Abu revo x on 30lb braid flouro leader. Using to throw heavier led heads and 1 ounce hook up baits. I mainly fish, harbors and break walls. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Love your channel!
Shane Matos hi Shane... my favorite reels for spotty fishing are Daiwa Tatula SV TW HS103 reels (baitcasters) and the Penn Spinfisher VI 2500 for spinning reels. My favorite spotty rods for both baitcasters and spinning reels are the Phenix Feather Series rods in the 7’ to 7’7” range. For my main line I use Power Pro Maxcuatro .#20 in Hi-Vis yellow. I use 15# Yo-Zuri Disappearing Pink fluorocarbon leaders. Typically my leaders will be 6 to 7 feet long. I go with 15# leaders, because it’s a good compromise between invisibility and strength. With 15 # leaders you have a good chance of retrieving you jig head when you get stuck on structure. I like Warbaits 1/4oz underspin jig heads and 3/8oz Cool Baits underspin jig heads for spotty fishing. I also love Hookup Baits especially for Calico fishing along the Breakwall. For the Breakwall I will usually go with a 20# leader and throw 4” swimbaits. I highly recommend the FG knot for making your leader to braid connection!🎣😃

Man I never have any luck there 😞. What’s the best time to go? Looks like it’s low tide. I use the red crab hook up baits with the hot suave scents too. Never gotten a bite.
You want to hit that spot on a really fast moving out going tide and start casting under the bridge when the tide is 2’ above sea level! The current will be ripping through there so it can be tricky to hold your position. You will be casting your Hookup Bait into the current and then working it back to the kayak. Do not let your lure settle on the bottom or it will get hung up just about every time!🎣😃

No that’s a much smaller bridge where the wetlands passes under Warner Avenue directly next to the Huntington Harbour Yacht Club and the Fire Station.🎣😃

how did the surgery go?
So... I did have kidney cancer, but it was a less aggressive type of cancer than they originally thought and they downgraded it to Stage 1. They were able to remove it completely! So... long story short, no chemotherapy, no radiation, and they don’t anticipate any reoccurrence! The surgeon was really happy with the pathology report! 😃
Hi I’m a hb local what type of bait are you using at the Huntington harbor all they have is squid at the bait shops there but I haven’t had any luck

Cyrus Lopez the reel used in that video is a Penn Spinfisher VI 2500 and it is paired up with Phenix Feather Series 7’7” Rod. The main line is Power Pro Maxcuatro 20 pound braid and a 15 pound fluorocarbon leader.🎣😃

Anyone that watches my videos or the hundreds of other Huntington Harbour spotted bay bass videos knows exactly where they are being filmed. Huntington Harbour is not a big place. I could blur everything out during the editing process, but where would be the fun in that!🎣😃
