    If anyone is studying another culture and only using outside sources and not studying the scholars of that culture there is a HUGE lack in their research.

    • @oftin_wong
      @oftin_wong Před 3 lety +10

      Sometimes there is no scholars from a culture or theres nothing surviving from that time period
      Sometimes archaeology is all that survives and or writings from another culture referencing the place you study. You cant always force a political ideal onto your work. If you wanted to study the nazis in nazi Germany and only used German scholars from that time period who were nazis ...youd get the impression that the nazis were doing the world a favour. So I dont fully agree with your statement as the ancient world was quite similarly populated by humans and the scholars of those times also liked to please the people in power, you must cross reference everything to get a clearer picture.

      @@oftin_wong I think the operative word used by Akosua here is "ONLY," "only using outside sources." Furthermore, whether there are scholars from a particular culture or not, or there is nothing surviving from that time period as you have submitted, it still doesn't change the bottom line. The point akosua made is still valid.

      @AmenRaHotepKwamemuhDyk Porchprimatesheetskinn ngr I understand why you think that way, but the slave trade did more harm than good to those kingdoms. If you have been on this channel regularly you would know that a lot of Africans were kidnapped and sold as slaves. And I know this doesn’t help much, but they did not sell them selves. They sold their enemies. For example the Fulani sold the Igala, the Igbo sold the Fulani, the Fulani sold the Igbo, the Yoruba sold the Dahomey people.

      An Empire is not lesser than a kingdom. An Empire is a group of countries or what could be assumed to be so (with their distinct languages, cultures, worldviews etc.) under one authority. That's the main feature of Empires, when kingdoms, primarily may just be a one people, one language, kinda kingdom. Consequently, it could be said that the Songhai Empire/kingdom was a great one. Also that the British created a great Empire. Although Britain is more of a kingdom today, it was originally an Empire.
