The line “They stab it with their steely knives but they just can’t kill the beast” was a tribute to the band Steely Dan, which influenced the feel of Hotel California.
It is a cardinal sin to cut into the middle of the finest guitar duet ever played!!!!!!
And Disney Marvel did that with "Shang-Chi"
The most impressive thing about this is that it’s a group public appearance by The Eagles in which they didn’t try to kill each other.
Yeah, notice who is playing a muted guitar👀
They'd been touring until Glenn died. Maybe the music put SOME differences aside after some years passed. JMO
@@shilohauraable Exactly.
Was Don Felder playing?
@@billdowney6891 I believe that Don was playing the double-neck 12/6
Drumming and singing at the same time is quite difficult. I tip my hat to Don Henley for being so good at both.
It's not. Levon Helm of The Band says its easier.
@@MetalPersonJ And Phil Collins didn't seem to have much issues with it either, and probably only moved front and replaced himself as drummer because Genesis became more of a "pop band" which have a singer front man.
@@MetalPersonJ it is! out of all basic band instruments the drums are well known to be the hardest to combine with singing. And it has multiple reasons; drums are more physical demanding, which causes different breathing and thereby your constanly moving to drum. Also the drums are providing the musics rythem while singing usually follows the flow of the melody. These things inherently make it harder to hold perfect notes while playing drums. But of course everything can be learned by lots practicing, like Levon ;)
I think it was glen fry who said that don Henley was "microtonal" when it came to harmonizing. Kept everyone on their toes.
5 things at once...
The lines "They stab it with their steely knives, But they just can't kill the beast" was a response to the Steely Dan lyric "Turn up The Eagles - the neighbours are listening" from the Steely Dan song "Everything You Did".
One of the most talented bands of all time. No Doubt About It.
The first and only time all seven guys who played with the Eagles were together.
Cool fact. Didn't know that
I have to say it is weird seeing Meisner with a Telecaster instead of a bass.
I've read that Randy and Bernie weren't even plugged in at the Hall of Fame performance.
@@permaquilter9111 Yes I believe that was true.Although Randy was playing a Tele with Don and Joe playing lead there was no need for help there.Tim was obviously playing bass.Bernie was just along for the ride.
A group that’ll never be duplicated again. From their story telling in their music, to their harmonizing, to their musical playing. No question one of the greatest guitar playing was in the song with Felder and Walsh playing it out. Forever The Eagles.
Rest Easy Glenn.
Probably has been. a literally infinite number of times, as have you, even existing right now, as I write this, but only if the universe is truly infinite. On Earth, your statement is almost certainly true.
And FAR greater guitar playing exists right now. Advancement is made in music, just like in sports and practically every other category, often standing on the backs, if you will, of previous innovators, like many groups of the seventies did going all the way back to the classical music period.
You should really look around. And no, I very much do not mean in the current popular music, most of which is designed to sell, and not much else. The kind I am talking about is all over YT. If you want some examples, check out Tommy Emanuel (his Classical Gas and Over the Rainbow are a good place to start), Jon Gomm (Passionflower), Daws, Andress, and I could go on and on, including those not with us any more, Chet Atkins, Jo, Stafford. ad infinitum, practically. Listen to these very musicians and pretty much all others in interviews and you will hear them say exactly that, musical heroes they held dear, and folks that influenced them greatly. Often you can pick out styles and the influencers of that style.
I'm sure some of it is not remotely your cup of tea, but just sayin'. It is true in all other genres, too. A Capella, try Home Free, Pentatonix (especially when Avi was with the group) and a new struggling not at all well known group, Fifth Street, try their 'Fairly Odd Parents' (really, it is awesome), 'Hide and Seek', 'Winter Song'.
If you want music of the kind that has NEVER been written before, Jacob Collier, 'Flintstones' or "In the Bleak Mid Winter" where he pulls a trick I have NEVER seen anyone try before, he modulates to G half sharp (yes, right into the middle of the cracks on a piano) and back to G in four notes in, about the same distance out, and I defy you to locate it. A trick, yeah, but amazing.
I could go on and on and on and ..., but I'll leave the amazing journey to you, unless you want more. Just ask.
“So much joy, so much joy, for me right now”
Yes! 75 now. I been an Eagles fan since 72 when I first heard Witchy woman. I’ve watched the Hotel California guitar solo probably a thousand times. Every time I hear it it’s like the first time. Love your excitement on this reaction!
Glad I got to see this before Don Henley takes it down
It might stay up because it's a live version. It has been over an hour and it's probably automated to take down the studio recordings
Yep, I’m sure he’s responsible for a wonderful video of him singing The Last Resort. Oh the irony of the timing. When it might touch more people than ever, it was on CZcams last week, gone after I went to make a post the day I heard Lahaina had burnt to the ground. Such a shame. I’ve bought I expect 5-6 copies of this album in some form, as have others. I understand about copyrights but now I see the $$’s are more important to him than being sincere about the concern for our planet as that song implies. I lost respect for him over this.
This is also on the HOF website..
They can all sing lead so well too. Tim B Schmidt singing I can’t tell you why or Joe Walsh singing Pretty maids all in a row are so well worth a listen.
😂😂😂
So good to see All of thwm together again in this performance..Joe seems to be feeling it as always.❤
Glen Frey and Don Henley met while touring with Linda Ronstadt. They shared hotel rooms on the tour and as a result, the Eagles were born.
I'd love to see your reaction to Linda Ronstadt.
Yes Linda please
Wrong, they met before they were hired by her in LA through their respect record labels in 1970
Well it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong. I got that from a documentary on Linda Ronstadt called The Sound of my Voice.
@@billbabcock1833 they met at the troubadour in LA while being introduced by their respective record labels. They were in separate bands before being hired by Ronstadt. Each musician was hired individually
@@caperboy1169 They did not start writing together until they were touring with Ronstadt and they were sharing a room.
A lot of the practicing and modification of the songs that would make up their first album took place ins Ronstadt's living room because it was the place where they could all gather.
Henley and Frey were good musicians and great song writers. Walsh was a good songwriter and great musician. Timothy B. Schmidt filled out the harmonies wonderfully. But Don Felder was the man that made it all magic.
If we're honest, all of them could have had some good solo careers in some fashion, but together, they are legendary.
Yeah, Schmidt was only on The Long Run, the last album of their 70s era. Prior to that it was Randy Meisner. So on this song, from the album you’re praising Meisner.
You forgot about Randy Meisner . Timothy was only on the band for the long run during their original run. Their harmonies which much better with Meisner in the band . The 77 tour was the peak. Randy's voice was quite high but it was also fuller and warmer then Timothy's. One of these nights was probably the best example of their harmonies.. witchy women was really good as well . Randy Meisnet probably had the best all round singing voices in the band. Take to the limit was an insane vocal performance.
There always seemed to be something missing after Felder left. You can't just dump someone with that much talent and not lose something.
@@michaeldmcgee4499 That's probably why he was chased out of the band. Frey and Henley considered him competition and couldn't handle it.
Loved this on my cassette player while driving my 1973 Dodge Charger!
Eagles are forever awesome. They are a highlight.
Individually, each member is/was a master in his own right. Together, they are far more than the sum of their individual talents. They are LEGENDARY!
This is my number #1 greatest rock song of all time. I first heard this song back in the 70's as a young man. I listened to this song hundreds of time and have never grown tired of it. I love your enthusiasm for the music. Nice to see a young lady who gets it. So much great music from that era. Thanks for putting a smile on an old geezer.
That bass was absolutely awesome! While the guitars were hammering out the wonderful solos, the bass was in the background adding excellent depth to what they were doing. Totally terrific.
The most prolific CZcams Blockers in the history of CZcams, how has this not been taken down!!!!!
FEEL! Is everything in music! Make em' feel what you feel inside!!!
One of the greatest dual guitar solos in the history of rock and roll
That solo is a true masterpiece
The head leaning back and you dancing as the heart of the guitar solo kicks in speaks volumes of your love for music. The appreciation for such great musicians and singers is why I keep coming back.
I totally agree! it's one of the first bands i played guitar to..And when that double solo comes in it still has that same effect on me as kid! Speaking as a Child of the 90s..🤘🏻
Such a great song❣️ Live versions are special treats.
What blows me away is the fact that Glenn and co. use two 12 string guitars and Joe fills the harmony on a six string during the intro. All done precisely and perfectly. Wow! I saw them do this live a couple times. It is amazing listening when it is recorded. It is staggering to listen to this song, as well as their others, live! BTW, Beth, tell us - did you enjoy the song? Rest peacefully, Glenn.
I bet they all can juggle too... too much talent! Got to love them! :)
They had four members who could take lead vocals, with the first-call singer on drums. and peerless four-part harmonies. Three could take lead guitar if called on, with one also a fine keyboardist. Talk about depth! And the songs! Literally dozens of undisputed classics which still sound fresh and defined 70s west-coast country rock. America's true answer to the Beatles, and unlike them, they could deliver it note for note on stage, which existing sound technology never allowed the Fabs to do. Even the 15-year hiatus barely made a dent in their stature and reputation. Nice to see you enjoying yourself so much, Beth. Keep 'em coming.
To be honest with you, exactly like the album in live performance comes across as sterile to me.
@@johnkotches8320 Theoretically that's true, but they usually gave much more in live shows, especially Joe Walsh once he sobered up.
Oh and let's not forget, the moment everybody realizes that the drummer is also the lead vocalist... Man does that throw people off!
you want excellent rock harmonies, please check out Crosby, Stills and Nash, later to become Crosby, Stills, Nash and young, and the harmonies in both creations of the band were excellent, being it was the late 60's early 70's people were quite surprised
Do you know 7 Bridges Road by them? It is partially a capella and then the band plays. The harmony is delicious!
Not many know this, but it was originally a Steve Young song. Kinda like All Along the Watchtower by Bob Dylan. Both original versions became overshadowed by the legends who covered it!
Totally agree! :-) Try out Home Free's version (all a Capella) of that song for a great contemporary cover. Harmonies you won't believe, and talent to the point of absurdity, the beat boxer is beyond belief, try his live 'drum solo' . If you didn't live the 70s, and aren't familiar with all the bands, try some Doobie Brothers, Kansas, Eagles, and Styx, a few others with great harmonizing that come immediately to mind.
The genius of joe walsh shoudl never be forgotten....
That attention to detail was what led the Eagles to take a 14 year vacation, (Glen Frey's words). Lol. They drove each other crazy.
I find impossible to sing and drum at the same time can do it for guitar but doing and drumming seems even more impressive
I love your technical comments and appreciation!
The Eagles had a lot of music with harmonies. They were solid with them. TIGHT!!!!! Darn good guitars also!!!!!!!
No time for my SAD story... Back in 1976 my cousins from Ohio came down with tickets in Pittsburgh for the Eagles. I was scheduled to work that Saturday. SO I miss it --- DAMN!!!!!
I think Beth's a Rocker!
And what a beauty!
Welcome Beth!
Eagles - Top 10 rock band of all time.
Beth Roars and the Eagles! Best video ever!
Kansas City, Eagles Hell Freezes Over tour. Torrential rain, audience hunkered down wondering how show can happen in this weather. So dark, so dreary. Can't dee the outdoor stage. Then a lightening of the rain to a drizzle to a stop. Moments later a sudden crash of lightning over head to the flash of the concert lights and the first cord of Hotel California. Devine intervention. The breath left your body! It was orgasmic! Never lad a comparable experience in 60 years of concerts.
One of the most soulful songs ever! So perfect. Felder and Walsh made me cry , their music at the end is just insane. It is i-n-s-a-n-e.
So simple,so perfect - absolute agree.
The Supergroup in reverse, instead of just talent from a bunch of groups coming together, you got a bunch that ended up having solo hits after the group. Four of them have solo hits under their names, Henley, Frey, Walsh(pre and post Eagles) and even Felder(title track of the best animated movie for adults ever, IMHO).
This girl is absolutely stunning!! Love me a red head.
...but my All time favourite Ever was Leon Russell live where hegave unknown artists a chance onstage. They were off the charts incredible!
Gotta love a singing drummer!
"So simple, so perfect!" Nothing more, nothing less.
Totally agree with you.... and you really should know that the Hotel California is here in México, in a little town called Todos Santos, Baja California Sur (near from Los Cabos).
Eagles flying in perfect formation.
I love everything about the Eagles but I especially love that they brought in Joe he just gave him that little extra edge
I used to hate this song. Thank you for changing my perspective.
Awesome reaction. RIP Glenn Frey.
A timeless band with the music memories of my youth. A great song and a great group of artists. RIP Glen Frey…. You left us too soon.
"... so simple, so perfect..."
That's it.
🤍
your joy is so contagious. lucky are those close to you
The Eagles have been one of my favorite bands since first hearing this song in 1976. When they broke up in the early 80's after the Long Run album, I never thought I'd see them again , but their music has always been on my playlist. But then in 1994 they reconnected, and launched the Hell Freezes Over tour with the first concert being here in Honolulu, Hawaii , at Aloha Stadium. Needless to say, I was at field level directly in front of the stage. The lights came up, revealing Henley on the drums, and Felder, Frey, Walsh, & Schmidt, perched on tall stools at the front of the stage. They launched into a long intro building up to this song. It was epic,......stunningly great. I agree with you completely......they play with precision but in a way that flows freely. Their vocal dynamics and harmonies only add to a sound that is very pleasing to the ear. BTW....loved your perspectives on their musicianship. It's gratifying to see young people who appreciate great music from my generation.
The Eagles broke up in 1979.
@@TheJer1963 They put out "The Long Run" , their last studio album , in Sept '79, and officially broke the following year, in 1980, even as songs from the album were still on the charts.
I just watched the Eagles: Live At Capital Centre March 1977 the other day. It's an amazing gig and the recording quality is superb
I love it too.
YES!!!! It's the best vid of them all for this song.' Live at Capital Center.'
Seven bridges Road is the perfect example of how good they can be
The Eagles🦅💖🕺👬🧑🤝🧑🌟🤩
Great!🎼🎵🎹🎸🥁🎤📀👍👏
From Hong Kong🙋♀️🌏💝🌺🥰
You're a real ntelligent Scottish woman that makes me glad of the union.
I remember as an older teen driving down the highway late at night listening to this song on a classic rock radio station, while my friends were raving on about Madonna, Tears for Fears, Aha, Phill Collins, et al. So many pop synth ballads were emerging and I thought to myself, you know, "the guitar" is a pretty cool and precise instrument that can really sing and sometimes cries its melody. Awesome.
watching you go crazy is itself intoxicating...LOVE YOUR WORK!
I love everything about this song. But that bass line is freaking amazing. You pay atention one time and you never hear the song the same way again. And is so simple and easy.
Damn, now I need a suit made of bricks, for what occasion I may never know, but gotta have it. Also, class song.
Heart put on a fabulous show.
Don Felder and Joe Walsh=pure magic!
That performance is legendary.
Absolutely Legendary !
This may possibly be the most overall talented band to ever exist.
Also, theres just something about when Joe kicks in during the guitar battle that just gives you chills. The man was just magical with his guitar.
I love Eagles!❤
Maybe the most talent on stage at one time ever
what I live about their music most is that its tells a story that you can follow in your mind.
If you're a Hotel California fan, I can't recommend the Live Acoustic 1994 version highly enough. "Hotel California"-Unplugged! You have to hear "Seven Bridges Road" as well!
that whole album performance of 1994 hell freezes over is fantastic gonna have to get that DVD again lol. the 2000 millennium concert was pretty good too
One of my top 5 songs of all time
Best harmonies ever!
Masterclass of iconic band!!
My wife & I had the honor of seeing them in concert at the United Center in Chicago some years back. This was before the untimely death of Glen Frey. I mentioned to my wife that they were so spot-on, so perfect in every detail, that I could close my eyes and hear EXACTLY what the album cut sounded like. They were phenomenal!!
The best guitar solo/duo ever.Great lyrics and singing.Epic song.
I absolutely love CZcamsrs who you can see genuine enjoyment in their reviews and experiences. Beth's passion for what she is listening to is 100% conveyed and makes the video all that much more enjoyably. Love all the ones I've watched so far.
Also, that Brick Wall suit is slick as heck.
So enjoyable seeing someone your age appreciating this music. Thank you.
CHILLS, Beth, THANK YOU!!! Somewhat Sad, for those today, who were not able to experience, this time (60's 70's and early 80's) in Music History! Thank God, we just HAVE the VIDEO!!! Those Vocal Harmonies, from Men, no less. Angelic. Oh, that Don Felder Guitar Solo, and Joe Walsh Dualing guitars, Just WOW! GREAT INTEPRETATION!
Best harmonies in rock.
Great job, Beth! Your observation about the difficulty of Don's vocal variability while maintaining percussion precision was spot on. And the unity of the whole group in demonstrating the self-control and personal humility to together construct this masterpiece is impressive. That's why they is them!
BTW, It's been a year since you've listened to Angelina Jordan (unless you're doing it offline). Anyways she has since covered Adele's new song, Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean", and two songs of her own "Million Miles" (bring tissues), and 7th Heaven amongst other notable work. Please react to her again.
I could never get into rock and pop, I gravitated straight to metal in music, but this song is one of those rare pop rock beauties that grabbed me from the very first listen and I still adore it to this day. Beth's so right, every moment from verse to chorus and solo is absolute perfection 🙂
You absolutely get it girl ❤️
Take a listen to Take It to The Limit by the Eagles live in Washington DC 1977. After the song ended, it took almost ten minutes to get the crowd to settle down and sit down, so they could continue their concert.
Glen Frey, Joe Walsh, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Vince Gill (who you need to react to), so many incredible singers associated with this group.
I'd never put Joe Walsh and incredible singer in the same sentence.
@@cchavezjr7 he may not be technically great but he is a fantastic emotional singer and storyteller. His harmonies are always spot on. Like anything, it’s subjective and personal preference. I would rather listen to Joe than Don.
@@cydrych Not saying he's not unique but he's not in a great singer class. He even said the reason he became the singer in the James Gang was because he sucked the least lol.
Personally I love Pretty Maids all in a Row and In the City. Those songs are classic.
Exactly eagles plays is like intoxicating and addictive music just with simple chords and notes.
Not The Eagles. Just Eagles. Read their bio. Keep up the great work Beth. Love it
YOU sound WONDERFUL I AGREE TO YOUR YOUNG WONAN
Thoroughly enjoyed your explanation. The Eagles... a gorgeous example of the marriage of musicians and singers flawlessly in unison to perfection 🙏
You gotta listen to Seven Bridges Road Beth.Beautiful harmonizing acapellas!!!
You r so smart, and I really love your accent🤗
I just did a search and it looks like you've never reacted to anything by Natalie Merchant. She has one of the most beautifully unique voices of the last thirty years. Could you react to something by her please? Perhaps the song "Wonder" or "Break Your Heart"?
I just heard her for the first time the day before yesterday. A song called “Carnival”. I love unique voices.
My favorite vocalists are Guernica Mancini from Thundermother, Jasmin Saarela (aka Jess) from Jess and the Ancient Ones and her solo project Jess By the Lake, Johanna Sadonis from the unfortunately short-lived band The Oath, Libby Lux from The Bridge City Sinners, Alia O’Brien from Blood Ceremony, and Alexandra James from Twin Temple :)
And some other vocalists I love are Jinx Dawson from Coven, Rosalie Cunningham from Purson and her self-titled solo project, Francis Tobolsky from Wucan, Dana “Danger” Athens from Jane Lee Hooker, and Geoff Tate from Queensrÿche.
I have been a fan of the Eagles for a long time. When I saw them live in 2014 I was blown away! They did Take it to the Limit with 7 or 8 guitars in harmony, I was awestruck! Never been to a concert like it since.
I really enjoyed your reaction. The Eagles are one of the finest bands that's ever been, and I appreciated the fact that you acknowledged the sheer musicianship of each of the members. With that in mind, I think that you would really enjoy listening to Rocky Mountain Way by Joe Walsh (the guitarist dressed in the "brick" suit) in this video. Joe is a bit offbeat, but an unbelievable talent who happens to be one of the best blues/slide guitar players. Glen Frey once described Joe as "an interesting bunch of guys." Give him a listen... I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Heh, "offbeat"...
So much nostalgia with this song. So great to hear your reaction!
You get so into the music, it almost seems like you are hesitant to pause it when you make the critique. It’s good to see how much you love your work.
The live 77 version is the the definitive way to listen to this song. Heck that entire performance really
It's one of the few perfect songs. Everything, lyrics, drums, all guitars and all singers was just perfect.
Another fantastic review. Thanks much Beth. 👍🏻
