- BAKING BREAD WITH COCONUTS? THIS FILIPINO FAMILY IN HERNANI EASTERN SAMAR DOES JUST THAT... AND IT IS AMAZING!
In this video, we head out from Borongan City and make our way down the coast to the town of Hernani. I meet up with my local friend Frank, who takes to to a few beautiful places along the coast. Seriously, the coast is freaking amazing here in Eastern Samar! After spending time at Canhugas, we try some amazing local "Hinorno" bread. That is the local style of baking bread here... very Waray. The coconut bread has a unique smokey sweetness to it. This was a very unique style of Filipino baking! Loved it!
After catching a surf and enjoying more of the Samar coast, myself and Bret head back to Tacloban and enjoy a great dinner at La Maison Punjab... one of my favorite restaurants here in Eastern Visayas.
FILIPINO COCONUT BAKING AND BEAUTIFUL SAMAR COASTLINE!

The pancake is called SALUKARA….hinorno means moulded batter . I’m a subscriber from Sulat Eastern Smar , glad you and Bret explored our place .
As i know …hinorno menas cooked in any kind or type similar to oven
Horno=oven, so if its called Hinorno its oven baked, dough is masa in not sure if batter can also be called masa, im a 62 year pinoy who used to help my aunt in bikol who is a baker and a "food trades" instructress😊
Hinorno = cooked in an oven. Horno = oven in Spanish.
Horno has nothing to do with Tagalog "hulma".
Oil Free? Gluten Free?
Root word "horno" which means oven.
Hinorno = Oven baked
Not hinulma.
The tour guide got some unique communication skills. I'm so proud of you kababayan🤝💪

Salukara, rice pancakes using tuba sediment as leavening instead of baking powder/soda.
Hinurno - baked. Hurnuhan - oven.

❤❤❤❤Hello Good Morning to all people in Samar God Bless Us All
Actually "horno" means fireplace for cooking or oven. Hinorno means cooked in oven with firewood or coconut husk.
Thanks for visiting Samar, my birthplace is on the western side, Calbayog.
agree, "hornoan" is usually a wood fired portable clay oven. but it seems they have evolved into using tin cans to cook it now.

you are .....POSITIVE VIBE Kulas. Keep it coming Bro
It’s like pandecoco.Inorno is like putting the bread in an oven but instead the bread are put under a charcoal or above the charcoal. In their case, they use the coconut husk. In Northern Luzon, we use the charcoals to cook them. But in the old ways, they have a small cave and they put a lot of charcoals.
This is so classic. Whenever you see smoke along the highway, you better check is out cuz something interesting is going on. Like this hinorno! Amazing!
Wow always a friendship and Best friends
@13:51 The Balangiga church famous for the bells that were returned a few years ago from the USA.
Awww that ending was cute!
Happy Diwali!
Tuba has been for the longest time used by filipino cooks and bakers as a leavening agent.
Wow I like how you go through the hole in the wall.....we used to do that at Santa Cruz California
It’s called salukara. Tuba is used as a yeast that’s why it taste citrusy and that is best pair with coffee! Super apir 🤘
It's called salukara. The citrus taste is the vinegar from tuba as a riser instead of baking powder. Miss ko na ang Salukara. Taga Samar ako.
Nice video as always 👍❤️
Beautiful spots.🙏

Bret is so happy with the "para" or coconut fetus, that pancake is the Philippine version of sourdough pancake, tangy

Boronganon here, the pancake called SALUKARA with fresh tuba as the rising agent.
it's super delicious, in the city we rarely eat that.
I think hinurno in waray means inumol in bisaya/cebuano. Inumol = molded by hand.
