I always assumed miniature painters used some type of optical aid like a digital microscope, but is this not the case? Absolutely amazing work.

Not usually. I personally find that it completely disables my depth perception, and really the magnification doesnt help the way one might think it would. I see them used for some really specific and rare things, but thats about it.
