Good for you. I am an addictions' counselor and I always recommend getting help for childhood trauma and drama and nurturing your inner child. You can't change the damage done to you unless you put space between the people who did you damage. It doesn't matter if they are mother, father or other family members. Sometimes they are the worst people. They feel if you are family they can shove their toxic, dysfunctional behaviour on to you and some people can't leave because they are damaged, and if it is the mother or father, the kids cannot leave because some love is better than no love that they weren't given as kids, and the dysfunction goes from one generation to the next. Hurt people, hurt people. When you meet someone try and find out about their parents and background. If you see red flags, run.

I'm aware that the time has come to end a very long relationship but this is difficult because there are innocent parties involved who I have been protecting (or trying to protect) for years. The Pisces that I need to leave is somewhat delusional, lies freely and chooses not to control his anger even if he hurts others. In fact, he uses this anger and lies to manipulate. The pattern that repeats is that I am always left finding solutions to fix his problems, put the pieces of our life back together and protect the innocent. If I am honest the unconditional love that I once felt has been gone for many years once he finally revealed to me that he did not care if he hurt me or others. He now say that he feels unappreciated and I agree that I do not appreciate him anymore, but neither does he appreciate me or anyone else. It feels so toxic and I just want to run away but I have to try to do it in a way that limits the damage to others and not trigger too strong a reaction. There are so many times in the past few years that I felt so fake doing the "grey rock" thing and hated myself for it. It is exhausting and I just want to be free. I don't care if I come out on top, I just need to be able to protect the ones that I need to protect and that is it.
