Antipsychotic Withdrawal Abilify Success (Ryan's Story)

  • Ryan had been Baker Acted in Florida 13 times, and it was looking as if he was going to be institutionalized into a state hospital as a throwaway. Over a course of 15 years, he was put on ADHD medications like Adderall, Ritalin, and Dexedrine, and other drugs like Risperdal, Lamictal, Lithium, Depakote, Geodon, Seroquel, Wellbutrin, and Ativan. His mom and his family knew there was hope, but didn't know where to find the help that would see the light in him. By some act of providence, they found the Alternative to Meds Center in Sedona who agreed that Ryan's situation looked promising, even though on arrival he was punching the trees in a manic state on Abilify.
    This story was captured at the 5-year post Alternative to Meds Center reunion for Ryan. In treatment, he was able to get off 400 mg Abilify Maintena injections plus 40 mg oral Abilify and 2 mg Ativan. He left stable and was never hospitalized again. After some years, he went back to the psychiatrist who did the majority of involuntary commitments, for the purposes of trying to get "undiagnosed" so that he could obtain a commercial trucking license. The doctor was astonished and claimed he had never seen anything like it and paraded him around to the other doctors in his office in disbelief, and proceeded to diagnose him as "normal." Ryan is now a commercial trucker and also coaches people on the side who are on similar journeys of life after antipsychotics.

    It sucks being on a court order that forces you to take medication when its not needed.

    Psychiatry is very dangerous. The short term benefits just pave the way for long term damage, horrific withdrawals, higher rates of relapse and various other psychosocial consequences. Im gonna say this once and for all.

    I came across this story just recently. It is truly inspiring! I was diagnosed with psychosis 3 years ago and during this period of 3 years I was given every known antipsychotic. I never at any point had any hallucinations or delusions. Everything that psychiatrists categorized “as psychotic” is based on my fears from traumas in my life (and there are many of them) and I kept telling them that I have PTSD and not psychosis - no one listened, they just kept rewriting the initial diagnosis. Does ATMC have some kind of sponsorship program (I’m not American citizen)?
    I truly and deeply think I was misdiagnosed and harshly over medicated but I have no way to prove it.

    There is a whole grassroots movement around people rejecting the whole chemical imbalance idea. I have been off ability for six weeks at this point and it is hard at times but there are moments of joy and happiness that I couldn’t get from meds. There needs to be other options than medication because medication is the immediate action which doesn’t provide a realistic long term solution that is truly meaningful.

      Bloodwork can measure electrolytes, hormones, etc. There is no way to measure one's levels of neurotransmitters. "Chemical imbalance" is a marketing ploy.

    I wonder what it was that Ryan needed in second grade that would have saved him from the hands of the people who pushed him into drugs and the hands of psychiatry. (No disparagement on his parents.)

    • @didibrowdy1271
      @didibrowdy1271 Před 3 lety

      Unfortunately it wasn’t the early years the Ritalin was only a small dose for school only. It was the bullying incident where he was attacked by a girl in 6th grade that spiralled him into other meds and then schizeffective episodes with psychotropic medications in his 20’s!

    This story is great but what if I have dangerous, life-threatening manic episodes every time I come off meds? I want to come off medication but I always get these terrible manic episodes coming off them and they've happened 3 times already. I get psychosis with my mania, particularly delusions. I also have depressive episodes that are severe and make me have urges to hurt myself. I have times in my life where I want to get off these meds and seeing these videos where other people successfully weaned off, as well as talking negatively about medications makes me more inclined to stop. But everyone around me tells me that's a bad idea and deep down I know that's true...

      @@sarahsowayan4255just pharmaceutical meds, chemicals in the brain, not natural feeling, its blocked emotions simple as it is from junior to adults, we are at worst if we trust their psihiatric diagnosis, and use the pills.
      I had a teacher who gave me half pill each time I got to her class, and that was it. I become drug user, alcoholic and hiper video gamer for quarter of century. When I feel good I know I'm getting sick again. Ad traumatic stress I'll fall into depression again. I'm good now and happy at AA meetings, still have falls and up's. What triggers it heh!

      You have to find the cause what is causing it. Prayer for God to show you is the best course of action.
      Drugs interfere with the ability to have a clear mind. And that's what we need to solve a problem.

      Wean slowly by cutting the pill in half size, taking it daily for one week. Example: 5mg to 2.5 mg pill cut.

    Hola, si puedo contactar con alguien que haya tenido alrededor de 3 inyecciones de estos medicamentos del infierno seria de gran ayuda, actualmente llevo casi 3 meses desde mi última inyección y mi única esperanza es conocer/saber de alguna persona que haya pasado por lo mismo y me pueda guiar a la hora de saber un tiempo aproximado de recuperación. Siento una anhedonia brutal y mi vida se ha desmoronado por completo en todos los aspectos, soy incapaz de mantener relaciones sociales, hacer deporte, comunicarme e incluso dormir mas de 6 horas al dia, por favor cualquier persona que lea esto y haya pasado por algo parecido que se ponga en contacto conmigo por aquí, muchas gracias de antemano. Se valora mucho cualquier esfuerzo y/o comentario.
