If you think withdrawals from SSRIs and SNRIs are bad, definitely don’t get into opioids or benzos! Withdrawing from IV heroin and valium caused me to almost die, it took nearly 2 years to get back to what I would consider ~85% of “normal” - like with no sensory input problems, tremors, lightning shocks, hearing & vision issues, etc. I am much better now, it’s been over 5 years.

@@clausmehl8731 I disagree. I started on 20mg of Celexa (Citalopram) almost 6 years ago and it allowed me to get my life back. I’m tapering off now, at 5mg doseage currently. I have felt zero withdrawal symptoms thus far. I think the key is to do it as slowly as possible. I wish the pharma companies would have more dosages available though, for an easier taper, rather than having to chop the pills up yourself, into little tiny fragments.

@@jcvd9567 From the many people I've met within the withdrawal community, I would argue that for many people, healing is possible.
Personally, regarding the effectiveness of my taper, who the hell knows! But at this point, I'd rather die trying. Ive tapered unsuccessfully in the past so I'm so stranger to horrible withdrawal experiences.
This taper is by far my most successful but I'm also throwing the kitchen sink at it. I'm going slow, I've changed my diet and did a gut health regimen, I'm taking a lot supplements that encourage neurological growth, I've been practicing kundalini meditation and yoga, etc.

@@ShadaeMastersAstrology ugh, I'm so sorry to hear you're having a difficult time coming off. From everything I've read, it's best to go slow and steady in your taper. For instance, I was on 40mg/day of Paroxetine and now after 6 months of tappering, I'm at 16mg/day. Please be gentle with yourself. Time is your best friend, but there are other things you can do to help reduce the severity of the side effects of withdrawal.
This is just my personal experience, but here are some things that have helped me in my taper:
-Try to eat "clean" foods that your system can easily process (lots of fresh veggies/fruits/nutes/organic meats). Avoid daily and gluten and drink lots of water.
-try to move a bit every day. Going on walks, yoga (a wonderful way to reduce anxiety and "reconnect" with yourself), dancing, stretching, etc.
      - implementing a meditation practice (or some type of spirituality/prayer practice)
-Talking to a loved one really helps. Someone who will simply listen or validate your feelings is incredibly healing
-avoid negative people, situations, or media. As much as your able to, recognize that your nervous system is sensitive right now.
Be kind and patient with yourself. You are not broken. You may have some trauma or hurt that needs to be addressed, but that is a very separate thing from the physical and psychological dependence we develop while on these medications.
I also recommend Will Hall's fantastic (and free) Guide to Harm Reduction pdf. You can find it online and it's a great resource for coming off psych drugs.
My best to you and your healing!

    • @cowboyjohnsontown
      @cowboyjohnsontown Před 2 lety +1

@@ShadaeMastersAstrology also, I should add: I'm coming off of an SSRI, not an antipsychotic like Zyprexa. I just want to clarify since different classes of psych drugs act a bit differently. Again, using Will Hall or Heather Ashton's model, it would recommended that you first taper by 10%. Meaning, you would first taper from 5mg to 4.5 and stay there for 4 or so weeks before determining to drop to 4.1mg, then 3.7mg, etc. 10% (or so) drops at a time.
Also, I'm working with a doctor who is well-versed in helping people come off of drugs. I ended up leaving my psychiatrist and working with LaValle Metabolic Code. They're able to both prescribe me a liquid version of my meds as well as set me up with some supplements that have helped ease some symptoms as well as encourage new neuro growth. I'm not sure if Zyprexa comes in a liquid form or not but itd be worth asking. If not, your doctor does have the option of reaching out to a compounding pharmacy. It's more expensive, but a compound pharmacy may be able to get you smaller (but accurate) dosages.

This is awful news because 20 years ago I was told I had the chemical imbalance and was sworn to that AD's were not at all addictive. I did not want to on them if they were addictive, I was un-assuredly told they were not addictive. Now I find out two decades layer, they are and your brain quickly become dependant to them and trying to get off can be extremely difficult. I am gutted as I am half way through a 3 + year taper off Benzo's let alone try and get off the AD. What i actually needed was a sh*t load of support. The drug companies are to blame bottom line. They fed the Dr's a line, and the Dr's in turn fed that line to their patients, that was a lie, or complete ignorance. And while we all suffer in the most awful of ways, they sail around the world on their super yachts.

Aw, thank you for your interest. I'm better now, although I feel like i came out of it a completely different person. This happened in 2014. So the most intense period lasted for around 3 weeks. That was the part where I'd go to sleep throughout. After that I was trying to reintegrate back into life and carry on my mum duties (kids were teens thankfully as they're self reliant), most of all I wanted to carry on prepping for my studies that were about to start that year. Seemed like I was back on track. Then first day I was back at course and all of a sudden I couldn't handle allllll the people around me. That was definitely new as I'd been studying at the same place for 2 years prior. I left that day full of anger and frustration. I took exception to the people that talked during lectures, avoided crowded areas like the plague etc. I no longer wanted to converse with my fellow learners. I just wanted out. I had developed social anxiety which I still deal with. I'm no longer extroverted, I'd say I'm definitely introverted now. I have zero tolerance now for bullshit. I have all the tolerance for all living creatures no matter their size. I notice everything now. Everything. I can't help it. Even if I'm deep in conversation, my mind is actively noting everything in my visual field whether it's in the background or not. I'm not working anymore because of all these new "quirks". I have so much problem with focus it's both ridiculous and hilarious. I've learned to just let go and go with the flow (when I remember to lol). To sum it up, my brain has changed. I know this through my experiences since that time. I feel like I've got adhd predominantly inattentive, but when I told my therapist I was reminded that you have to be born with adhd. So that's where I'm at now. Still trying to find out what's wrong. Progress is slower than snails taking a Sunday stroll. Thanks for reading.

@@Blackmoonsoulx Thanks for asking. I'm not against meds because I know it has helped many people--just not me. It took 3 months to get off Q. The first 3 months off, my mind started to clear up nicely. Now I've been off 5 months and 20 days. I decided to get off basically everything. I've found the rage is completely gone. On Q I'd have hours of anger for no reason sometimes. I've been writing prolifically but not in an excessive way. Still everything in life feels artificial. I'm not delusional but it feels like I'm playing a video game. I do these things which a person should do (Shopping, dating, taking care of pets...) but it all feels like I'm going through the motions. I recently had a great success with a 13 year project and I just don't even care. After almost 6 months off Q Ii am starting to suspect isn't going to get better from here. I'm not sure what "going back to the old me" means anymore. I don't know who that even is and am not sure that's even desirable.

Switched to Lithium and it slowly ramped me up to an angry dysphoric mania and was hospitalized. Switched to Q and was uncomfortably numb for 18 months. I stopped because the depression remained but I couldn't do my work. So really, why bother? I've been off everything for almost 6 months after 6 year of meds. I did three more years on meds 23 years ago. after some things happened I decided to give it another shot.
I think I'll use meds as a safety net if I go manic again. I can handle intense depression and pain. No problems. If i go manic I'll figure something out. I don't see a lot of options really and I'm again coming to the conclusion that there is no real solution and the thought of living a normal life is completely off the table.

"TARDIVE DYSPHORIA (TDp) is defined as a chronic, frequently treatment resistant, depressive state with onset in the setting of ongoing, persistent antidepressant treatment."
Simply put: it's chronic depression from long term anti-depressant use.
(I'm just GUESSING this is what the holistic shrink said - it's hard to clearly make out the word she said before "dysphoria", but it started with a "T". I hope this helps 🤞🏻.)

I'm changing psychiatrist as my existing one is not very encouraging. I've tapered off twice over a nine-month stretch two separate times. I became very very despairing, had massive crying jags, and stayed indoors for 9 months after that. I went back on the meds due to the pressure from my doctor. I am preparing to try again. My teenager was abruptly taken off antipsychotic medication due to a side effect but imo he should have been weaned off because the doctor knew the side effect had been an issue shorty after he started the medication. Instead she switched the antipsychotic and it made the side effect worse than she said just to stop the medication cold turkey and that if my teenager becomes psychotic again to take him to the ER. I am so dissatisfied with her treatment plan because she knew it was causing an issue months ago and I believe instead of switching she should have started to wean him off once he became stabilized. This can cause his mental health to get worse we went through hell when he was in psychosis and he missed so much school so now hopefully he doesn't go back into psychosis because of her inability to manage mental health patients. I had reservations about her shortly after he started seeing her but now I am going to find him a new provider.

I think the problem is that people are given these medications who don’t really need them. I was severely depressed around 5 years ago and getting on celexa was the only thing that worked for me. At that time I was an IV drug user and was basically a walking zombie of a person, I had no veins left to speak of, abscesses everywhere, and no reason to want to be alive at all.
I haven’t had any real side effects from it this whole time, but now it’s time to come off. I just halved my dose two weeks ago, and I haven’t felt any changes so far. So I’m at 10mg now...can’t wait to be off of it for good, although it definitely did work wonders for me! Having to keep getting it refilled is such a pain, and a lot of times I would forget to take it too.
