  • Two SIMILAR but VERY DIFFERENT Chainsaws!!
    I have been pretty interested in seeing first hand the difference between a anti-kickback chainsaw chain and a semi-chisel chainsaw chain. I couldnt believe how slow an anti-kickback chain is when cutting rounds. I truly believe 100% that if the Bilt Hard had a semi chisel chain the results would be very different. I am waiting on Oregon who at this time have a backorder on the replacement chain for the Bilt Hard.

      Good morning Agpicked, I couldn’t agree with you more!! I’m sure if they added a decompression valve like echo has on the CS-590 it would be a different story.
      Thank you Agpicked for taking the time out of your day to not only watch but to comment too.

    Stihl 291 is a homeowner saw. I ts a plastic clam shell saw. Pro saws have magnesium split able case.

      Good afternoon tedneitzel yes you are right I miss spoke in this video and I had no way of correcting the video. It would have been to chopped up. I own up to my mistakes its a mid-level saw! Thank you for correcting me, and thank you tedneitzel for taking the time out of your day to not only watch but to comment.

    Stihl sells three levels of chainsaws (homeowner/farm & ranch/professional). The MS-291 is a mid-level Farm & Ranch chainsaw. A MS-261 or MS-362 would be Stihl's professional level chansaws that are under 60 cc. The Echo CS-590 Timber Wolf would be similar to a Farm & Ranch saw. The CS-620P & CS-620PW (with wrap around handle) would be Echo's same size professional grade chainsaw. Value-wise, the Echo CS-590 for $399.99 (powerhead only) is hard to beat for that size saw.
    I am sharing all this for anyone new to chainsaws watching this. Saying a bar is 18" or 20" doesn't mean much. You want to share whether the chainsaw is running a .325" pitch full chisel or semi-chisel chain OR a 3/8" pitch full chisel or semi-chisel chain. Some may run a skip tooth on larger saws. Most saws under 60 cc run better with a .325" pitch chain (3/16" file). Most chainsaws near 60 cc & more will have a 3/8" pitch chain (7/32" file). Your Echo CS-590 was most likely set up with a 3/8 pitch bar & chain (big boys chain). Most MS-291(55.5 cc) chainsaws will come with a smaller .325 pitch bar & chain. It's stamped on the bar if you don't know for sure. Bars, drive sprockets, & chain must match. A small chainsaw may have a smaller 3/8 low profile chain (5/32" file). Whenever someone sharpens a chain, they should check the rakers' depth. Most use some type of depth gauge to do this.
    Different brand chainsaws may have different bar tail mounts. If you're buying a Chinese chainsaw, it might be useful to know what type it has? Will it accept a Stihl bar tail mount or a Husky tail mount? Echo has bar mounts that are specific to their smaller saws. Echo's CS-7310P, however, uses a Husqvarna D009 tail mount. My Jonsered CS-2165 would use the same, because it's a 3/8 pitch bar. My Jonsered CS-2152 has K095 Husqvarna tail mount, because it's a ..325 pitch bar. Stihl has their own, but I don't know them off the top of my head. Echo CS-590 Timber Wolf uses a D176 tail mount (not as common). All good things to know when bar & chain shopping.

      Good morning Driftlesshunter, yes miss spoke in the video. I have a ECHO CS-590 and looking into buying a MS-26 as well.
      First off I had to screen shot this to keep in my notes. Thank you for taking time out of your day to inform not only me but whomever else with this information. It's amazing !!
      I emailed Oregon with the specs of the BILT HARD
      20"bar
      .325 Pitch
      .058 Gauge
      76 Drive Teeth
      They said its on back order and I am just waiting for it to come in.
      Thank you again Driftlesshunter

    Hi Joe.
    Are you running a 40:1 mix in the bilt hard?
    Good comparison of the 2 saws!

    • @joesoutdoorexperience
      @joesoutdoorexperience  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Good evening Cliff, yes thats what it calls for. Should I change it to a 50:1.. Honestly I really don't know the difference and or if it would make one!
      Thank you once i chaige the chain on the Bilt Hard Im sure it will be a much different result.

    • @cliffnieporte7817
      @cliffnieporte7817 Před 4 měsíci +1

      I'd go with what they recommend.
      40:1 is about 3.2 ounces per gallon vs 2.6 for 50:1.

    • @joesoutdoorexperience
      @joesoutdoorexperience  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Cliff so then 40:1 has more oil in the fuel mix! I always just thought 50:1 should have been more because it’s a bigger number I just read up on that thank you again.

    All we know is that you have a really dull chain on the tard saw

    • @joesoutdoorexperience
      @joesoutdoorexperience  Před 4 měsíci

      lol good evening mdocod😂😂, it’s the stock chain and it that’s the 4-5 round I ever cut! On the smaller standing trees it zips through them. Once the new semi-chisel chain is in I will do this video over and I can almost guarantee it will keep up with the STIHL.
      Thank you mdocod for the laugh and taking the time out of your evening to watch and comment.

    Check rakers/ depth gage on new chains. Often not to spec.

      Good morning HuckThis , I have to buy a tool I don't own one. I do have the STIHL 3-1 sharpener. I sent an email to Oregon to get a replacement chain just waiting on the backorder to be fulfilled.
      Thank you HuckThis for taking time out of your morning to not only watch but to comment with helpful information.

      Good morning J.mahoney, yes thats why I made sure to say that, I wish the new chain wasn't on back order and I was able to change it for this video! I would be willing to bet once that new chain comes in the Bilt Hard will have no issue keeping up.

      Good afternoon Phylliswhite, thank you for taking the time out of your day to watch and comment. I could agree maybe to an extent, but its the stock chain it came with. I noticed it when I made the first video! I haven't cut any big hardwoods down, or hit the ground. Im pretty sure once I get the new Semi-chisel chain from Oregon it will keep up with the STIHL with no proble.
      Thank you again
