The amount of work to downscale Arkham Knight must have been nuts.
It's like if the game came out on the 360.
Nah 360 would not down scale that much considering its still Unreal Engine 3 like Asylum and City. Feels more like a PS3 game got ported to the PSP like Dante Inferno.
Yep, that’s the impressive part, but I don’t know how much they can do with performance and optimization updates to enhance the experience as they are limited by the Switch’s hardware.
even a lil bit less than that
@@damianwayne8229Keep in mind, Arkham Knight pushed that engine significantly further than City and Asylum.
@Just_normal_youtube_channel it still blows my mind it was unreal engine 3. This game literally looks better than most games that come out today. They really did push it to the absolute limits.
Imagine Batman playing these games in his batmobile while waiting for something
Gotta have something to do on stakeouts
@@crossover1015 for real
Replace the Cryptographer Sequencer puzzle with Batman playing a game on it. It writes itself.
@@leithaziz2716good idea
HA!!
Switch doesn’t look nearly as good as the other modern consoles, but the fact they can run on switch is a miracle
Asylum and City look more like Xbox360/PS3’s version
Knight is just a low quality version of the one we know
3:55 The fact a straight Switch port of AC still manages to look better than whatever the hell they did in Return to Arkham shows how bad they screwed up there.
@@alexsilva28 Aside from presumably a short development time and budget for the remaster, switching engines from Unreal 3 to Unreal 4 without re-touching everything leads to a lot of change in lighting. Lighting alone has a big effect on how well everything pops.
One praise I will give the remaster is the added rain in Arkham Asylum. It fits really well and is missing in the original version. I just wish Batman's face didn't look so strange.
@@alexsilva28 I actually don't think it looks bad at all. I like the remasters. My only problem is the lighting in Asylum and some character models. Graphic wise, It looks great
@@TheGamerRist Some of the new models I really like. Such as Penguin's updated model. It's just that a lot of the new assets can be hit or miss.
@@leithaziz2716 Yeah Penguin looks good. It just that in cutscenes, Batman looked a little weird and Joker looked less detailed
The Arkham City port is based on the WiiU version. It even comes with the armored suit for both Bats and Catwoman.
In addition to that, the Arkham Asylum port is based on the PS3/360 version of that game since there's no rain in the outer garden areas.
As for Arkham Knight, well, that port needs a LOT of work.
Here's hoping all of them get a better optimization patch in the future.
The console is just really weak they need to make a switch 2
@@thetalabgamer_9755 Ain't that the truth? I love my Switch to death, but it's in need of an upgrade.
The switch is just not powerful. Its barely more powerful than the xbox 360/ps3 and still significantly less powerful than xbox one/ps4
To be fair the switch doesn’t look as bad as I though it would. Considering that Arkham Knight still has excellent graphics and is a huge game to put on a small console.
not even a console bruh it's like a gamepad handheld, so yeah we can say it's good
Look like a ps2 game graphic
@@ernaimiztervee9123it’s bad, but not bad like ps2 graphics
some of it could use a little more polishing on switch Manbat just looks awful
steam deck
Rest in Peace Kevin Conroy 🦇 and Arleen Sorkin ♦️🕊️🕊️
Hope to that 60fps comes to next gen console for the Arkham trilogy.
Mid 2022 I binged Arkham Knight straight to a true ending and omg this is such a banger, even after completing it on PS4 before (I have a decent PC now). Imho AK is the best superhero game ever, even after S-M2's debut. I still wish we got proper installment in place of shitty service that Gotham Knights was
@@Votalion I still prefer AC personally but AK is still such a fantastic game
@@Votalion The Arkham games are all great. I played Arkham City again after half a decade and was pleasantly surprised how well it held up. Origins as well is a great game to play on December as a celebration.
Already 60fps on Xbox one X and Series X AS and AC challenge mode and Riddler’s Revenge and Main menu and of course 45fps on Arkham Asylum story play.
Frame don't matter
Good God Arkham Knight is a good looking game. Can’t believe it runs on UE3!
Quite heavily modified tho
Still find it absolutely satisfying to this day and the game itself still looks absolutely more beautiful than most modern video games we've got!
I'm starting to love Arkham Knight a whole lot more now!
Yes the engine might technically be unreal 3, but it’s entirely different and more advanced than the base unreal 3 that was available at the time when it was being developed
It always was Unreal 3.
Most of the city is black and dark, game does show its age.
"the tv reporter?"
"yeah. you a fan?"
"no."
this dialogue gets me every time
Asylum and City on Switch looks like their PS3 and Xbox 360 counterparts, which looks better than the PS4 and Xbox One counterparts in my opinion. The only problem is Knight but I'm surprised it runs fairly well and it's 1/4 of the size on consoles. Clearly this port isn't as bad as people though it'll be. Good job Rocksteady, or whoever was in charge of the Switch port.
3:22 now this is embarrassing and hilarious
😂
Honestly, they stuffed a game into the Switch GPU and it runs smoothly. Like Witcher 3 before it, let's celebrate the fact that more people will experience the game
3:24 That's so funny
I wasn’t a fan of the return to arkham : Arkham asylum Batman face. But I do give props to the switch version for putting in the OG Batman face
Is it possible that the entire Arkham Trilogy will receive a next-gen update on consoles that finally allows 4K resolution with 60fps? I really want that to happen more than anything and I also want both Asylum and City to look like the originals and not the botched Return to Arkham versions we're currently stuck with on consoles. Also, getting Arkham Origins as well would be a bonus.
Good luck with that. At best we will get an update for Arkham Knight, but them being okay with launching a new skin without changing the resolution or framerate of the game, that is not a good sign.
Managed to play Arkham Knight on PC 4k 60fps and DAMN it's still one of the best looking games ever made.
3:10
Wtf is going on with Gordon's face
I feel like I have to try it myself. Some say it's unplayable, but rough edges to me don't make a game unplayable. One video pointed out slow down, but it was when the batmobile had the slo mo shooting scenes. I'm more curious about far off renderings in the city. On PS4 you could see a target a mile away, but games on the Switch like Zelda, you have to be pretty close to a target before it generates.
I bought the collection and Asylum and City look and play great. Knight is a little ugly, but it's playable. I own Knight on PS4, so still playing it for the AR challenges is fun.
Asylum and City look great, Knight looks tolerable (even impressive, considering the hardware limitations)
Knight looks horrible on Switch, but the other two look pretty much identical to the PC version (aka the original version) which is nice. But yeah, I don't think anyone believed that the Switch was cabale of running Knight with the same graphics
That’s why im glad the steam deck exists because I can play all these games they originally were on a portable handheld that can run most games well the only games that worked well on switch were Asylum and City due to them being older games Knight I knew they were gonna have issues
There's a lot to like about these videos but I think my favorite part is always hearing that epic soundtrack 💯
I'm excited to play these three games while I'm on my trip to the cabin!
NS 😎😏🇯🇵
The smoker at the beggining looks even more terrifying on switch
Pretty cool that Arkham Knight, literally the most visually stunning game in the history of games, with probably the highest polygon count I've ever seen on any models, got ported to a medium end console like the Switch with little issue.
Where was this level of compatibility with MK1's Switch port?
its indeed good looking game, but best in history? nah, not close
I always thought the return to Arkham remaster looked a little off and I always preferred the ps3/xbox 360 versions. It looks like they ported those versions of asylum and city and they seem to run pretty good. From what I’ve heard from ppl city actually runs better than asylum. But for Arkham knight it’s just inexcusable for what they’ve done. It’s clear that Arkham knight was never meant to be ported on to a system like this and it’s a shame that it was released in this state.
It's Vicarious Visions, disrespecting original art styles is what they do best. They are able to do it to MGS 3 as well.
@@judahfalls7704You mean Virtuos Studios right? Vicarious Visions is an Activision studio, they've never touched Arkham in any way. Most notable games Vicarious made were the Crash Bandicoot remasters.
Sorry yes I meant Virtuos, shame on me for accidently misnaming them as a great studio@@noodleman4555
I really don't get why people complain about the return to Arkham games. Based off of this alone its clear a lot of attention went into character designs, lighting and shadows. The only thing they were missing were the armored outfits and the B.A.T. function which even now is still exclusive to the Wii U port.
Not anymore. The B.A.T. function is still Wii U exclusive, but we got our Armored outfits on Switch now.
@@smashmaster521 right English is difficult.
I was referring to the b.a.t. being only on the Wii U while the return to Arkham games were missing the suits.
Ironically, the switch port while called so are not the return to Arkham games but rather the original ports.
You can tell by the textures used in the game being the exact same as any version of the game besides the Xbox one and PS4 versions
Me neither. I played Return to Arkham and thought some of the changes made it more consistent with Arkham Knight. I can understand why they chose to port over the original versions of the remaster for Switch, though.
I mean as long as the Switch version has the core experience (Which obviously it does) then it's good. I just prefer the Return to Arkham style. Not everybody has to agree with the original art style or look of a game, movie, show, etc. That's why there's people who enjoy using Auto HDR on the Xbox Series consoles, use "HDR Always On" on PS5 and use mods and ReShade on PC.
I mean, if you think about it, the switch version is what a port fo Arkham Knight would have looked if it was relased in the Xbox 360 and Ps3, so not that bad for what it is
Dispite the Switch version looks rough with a few framerate drops and sometimes crashes, I'm still impressed they managed to get it to run Arkham Knight
They should have just put Asylum, City and Origins on Switch.
3:19 where did Riddler go? hehehehe
The ‘Return to Arkham’ remaster looks absolutely dreadful! I am so glad that they used the original graphics when making the Switch port of Asylum & City.
No wonder why Arkham Knight wasn't released on the PS3 or the 360!
Bit weird comparing to Return to Arkham (which has a lot of controversial visual changes and has been ported to Unreal 4)... the Switch version is based on the PC version, which also has the original art style of the 360 / PS3 versions.
I'm surprised you didn't use the City Redux mod for Arkham City
Gotta say Scarecrow nightmare race challenge seems look better on Switch cause it has that smoke or gaze particles
Bro the violins going hard at the end 😭
It's crazy how good Arkham knight looks for being an early ps4 game, it looks as good as spiderman ps5 and theyre like 8 years apart
I’m very happy they included the original versions of Arkham asylum on the switch when I get to three pack, I’m definitely gonna play only sitting in asylum until Arkham Knight gets completely fixed
They patch up batmobile and glide times and tighten up overall visual performance with a patch and itll be good to go.
Agreed.
The game’s performance is almost as great as Asylum and City but does stumble a bit.
I had two crashes so far just 17% in.
I have faith they will clean this up soon.
I’m enjoying all of it without the need of it being 4K and 60FPS.
One thing's for certain, people are still better off with the pre-Return to Arkham releases of the previous games.
hey im just glad more people get to expereince these games
Playing this on switch would ruin the game for me
Why?
@@imemovengeance looks terrible 😞 I have switch xbox , pc and ps5 just cant downgrade the graphics when I can play on pc or series X at anytime.
@@imemovengeance Arkham Knight looks and runs terrible on the Switch. The driving section is unplayable.
@@imemovengeance I will say it does look/run better then I thought it would unfortunately not good enough to play through its like playing on ps2
Interesting that they decided to thankfully use the original versions of Asylum and City as the basis for the switch version, and not the Return to Arkham versions, since that’s all you’ve been able to buy on consoles the last 7 years
I really hope they put a patch For the Arkham knight game by the time I get it!
Im finally glad I am finishing new game plus on arkham knight on switch!!
I do like the atmosphere in Arkham Knight. I do like how much darker Gotham looks compared to PC and console.
dude, how can it look better on switch? are you blind? if you want game darker just decrease brightness and on pc just use reshade. LOw res on switch, low textures all horrible.
@@andrerocha3998i dont even care about it being low graphics on switch, if it's gameplay wise the same then it's fine, although it still has a way to go for stable performance for AK.
@@CharmedReally7 ok my friend i dont own a switch, but finished AK on PC 2 days ago, my opinion is playing on PC os always the best experience, i justo think its time to another switch to come to market .
@@andrerocha3998 i have also completed it on pc, that wouldn't take my enjoyment of playing it again portably even if with worse graphics since it's excusable for the most part, (i still have problems with the performance which is why I'm not yet plannin on buying it though). You're not really making a new point by saying nintendo need to ship a new console. I still think there's a lot of what the switch can offer, but not like I'm opposed for an upgrade or whatever, what I'm trying to say is that garbage optimisation will stay garbage optimisation, no matter the power of the platform.
@@CharmedReally7 well ok, but right now you have handleld consoles better than switch like steam deck and legion go. I think its time they annunce the new switch. So nintendo players get acess to sames games from other plataforms
The character models in the switch feels off
Switch get Scarecrow mission? But what about PC?
That's unfair
Actually scarecrow mission was for Playstation executive. Now add to switch. Not Xbox and pc. Even adam west batman skin and batman justice league 3000 skin was Playstation executive too. Now add to switch too. So yes that's unfair to Xbox and pc. Oh well..
@@gregkleba1484a lot of people have discussed and have come to the assumption that all the ps4 exclusives, battinson suit, and more content and updates to be added on the 15th and later dates
@Maximo856 actually release all consoles and pc. I have earth 2 skin. It's free.
3:22 wtf they literally took off Riddler in the Switch version 😭
1:46 - Scarecrow challenges
God, i really need The Batman suit
Wow that's rough. I really don't think the original developers had game looking like the switch in mind for the intended way to play. Bastardisation of their work honestly.
Taking into account that Gotham City is extremely well detailed to this day, it doesn't surprise me at all that the graphics on the Switch are embarrassing.
2015's Arkham Knight has a more detailed and vibrant city than the city in Spider-Man 1 and 2. I'm just saying.
3:18
Facing a BLANK WALL, lol
It's a pity they didn't include Arkham Origins. We could have the whole tetralogy in one system.
Is it strange that the Switch version seems to be very close to the PC version, graphics wise, and that the Joker model had more facial detail then the PS4,5 in that choking scene?
Altogether it looks more like a PS3 version, which isn’t that bad.
Just more proof Nintendo needs to either release a new console to be able to run these type of games better or just make sure they can actually run a game before releasing it
Exactly
Nintendo didnt release these ports
@@bt3743 Has nothing to do with Nintendo releasing these ports. Nintendo needs to release new hardware.
Oops, can't hold all these switch sales. Cry harder. @@DeadPhoenix86DP
@@bt3743 they would have reviewed the port and even if they didn’t still shows they need a new console as it just shows how far behind they are
The riddle wasn't even there 😭😭😭
1. ARKHAM BATMAN TIENE UNO DE LOS COMBATES MAS BELLOS Y SATISFACTORIOS DE LA HISTORIA Y EN PC ES EVIDENTE. ES UNA DELICIA VER Y OIR EL COMBATE.
I still think Asylum and City deserve proper remakes (im thinking mafia definitive edition, TLOU1, demon souls, dead space level) that brings them up to par with Knight's visual fidelity, gameplay and level of detail. The Return to Arkham versions always felt off and more like they just played with the lighting, textures and called it a day.
Kevin Conroy ain’t in the land of the living anymore but maybe it could work
@@jayyy1677 All they need to do is rebuild the games in the Arkham Knight engine. All the voice work already exists.
I really want to try playing the batman Arkham collection for my Nintendo switch
I’m surprised you decided to go backwards with this video starting with Knight and ending with Asylum I would’ve thought you would do the opposite
I always wonder why they didn't port Origins instead of Knight for the Switch. At least it won't struggle this much
Will always say about the return to Arkham ports is that the hair is atrocious. Especially compared to the original where the hair on the models looked fantastic
the switch port of knight is pretty impressive considering the console. Hoping that all the previously ps4 exclusive stuff will make its way over to Xbox and pc along with the battinson skin.
Well they enlarged the subtitles(PS4/PS5)but still looks same to me
For the record I have the PS4 version
This might be the first time ever I am sort of tempted to buy a Switch. The Arkham games are the best ever.
we need a wii u comparison as well🤣
Quite tragic that a 2015 game doesn't work with a machine from 2017.
Edit: Not even City looks OK, talk about slow texture loading. Sheesh
Nintendo DS came out 2004 and is hardware-wise on par with a N64 (1996) whats your point?
I have big expection that Arkham knight is playable smoothly on switch I stick with PC version. I Hope they also bring Arkham Origin someday.
Who else is just waitng for the, "the batman 2022" skin?....side note I wonder just how life like these games would be on Unreal 5 😮
Its sad that the developers had to put in this much work to make the game playable on Switch. I truly hope Nintendo's next system is alot stronger. It doesn't have to be PS5/Xbox Series X strong but it needs to have up to date hardware
You know what is crazy i am playing this on my Android with yuzu emulator. Mind blown
Always shocking when a handheld system from 2017 can't match the graphical powerhouse of a console-based system released 3 years later. 🤔
Its not bad at all in nintendo as i intented tô be....but PS4/5 as the ultimate definition by now
I would love if they keep forward with This epic franchise...cammon rocksteady and WB the money is waiting to full your pockets
Switch version looks like one of those next gen games that get ported over to last gen consoles like the PS2.
The nvidia trash physics were amazing, the smoke too
This might as well say "On the left, 720p low settings. On the right, 1440p High settings".
Arkham City does look good though on the Switch I have to admit, even better than Arkham Asylum.
Given that most games are capped at 30 fps on a switch this isn’t that bad as I thought it would be
I by no means expected graphics to be any good, but they gotta patch the performance on switch.
I know the switch ports get alot of flack, but we're going in the right direction with handhelds where we no longer get an entirely different game just because its handheld, is it a lesser experience graphically and in performance ? Yes, but we're getting closer to better, uncompromising games on the go.
What's the soundtrack called?
Switch version is still good for a portable version of the game
If we do not get a 60 FPS update for consoles, i'm personally gonna... just flip out.
Wonder why the A symbol is gone in the Switch version
Arkham knight DEFINITELY needs immediately fixing for the switch port!
City and Asylum are just fine, exactly the same games we've gotten a few times now. Knight is the one everyone's arguing over, and it's taking a lot of flack from people, many even calling it unplayable. Now, I've beaten Knight on PC and I loved it, and I've been revisiting it on Switch, and, honestly, I'm still enjoying it, even with all the hits it's taken to performance and visuals. It's admittedly not the masterful port that Panic Button's Doom Eternal or Portkey's Hogwarts Legacy are. It's a bit messy and janky but it absolutely is playable. It only really gets super bad performance wise in some of the driving segments and even those have been doable for me. Also, it oddly seems to run better for me (by a noticeable amount) in handheld mode, and frankly that's the real reason to have Knight on the switch, so you can play it on the go.
As for why this port didn't turn out as well as some of the more impressive ones, I do not believe Knight, as a game, is particularly well optimized. The PC version was hot garbage at launch and took several updates before it was even playable, and this was even for people with beast PCs. The Switch version of the game is actually running better at launch than the PC version did, and that's pretty impressive to me. I'm hoping it'll get patched again and eventually run more stably, but even as it is, if it's your only way to play the game, or you just want a version you can play on the go, it's worth it IMO, especially if you can get it on sale.
Not even a comparison but at least we can play it anywhere
Why the dev force the game to in Switch?
Is there a physical switch copy that exists cause I want to get one
2:58 0:54 man reference?
I had no doubt that asylum and city would run well for switch but knight needed to be passed on this one. Knight on switch looks worse than asylum on ps3/360
Ok, but Scarecrow looks scarier without the shading hiding half his face
Knight looks absolutely nuts on pc
When you realize the 50% of Arkham Knight's gameplay is in the batmobile. Switch owners are going to feel sick of the terrible framerate.
Switch version needed a little more to optimize.
3:10 dude….
