    Nice looking stove . Love the fact that it's natural gas . You don't have to deal with wood and the mess that goes with it , unless of course you want to.

      Gas is what sold me- hate the mess of having to deal with wood. Especially in room that will be the master bed a few years from now.

    I like the stove & hope you let them know they must give people better instructions on how to put it together. & to give people more length chaises on the pipes So people can get what they really need & not have to do what you had to do for it to work. Nice job.

    Hello Brian and Amy, thank you for another interesting video.
    There is no such thing as a straight forward install,- For Anything!
    Bye, the way, I don't know if you know but Denver and Colorado are advertising on Australian radio and tv right now, saying what a wonderful place it is for a holiday.
    I think I might wait a few months before I decide about coming to Colorado for a holiday, as we are just at the end of our summer and we are still having temperatures in the high 30s'(C), and you still have plenty of that white stuff you call snow!!.

    • @ColoradoMountainLiving
      @ColoradoMountainLiving  Před 5 lety

      Why Hello Down Under! That's amusing that you're hearing ads for Colorado. Yes-plenty of the white stuff up here still. Some folks like to ski on it hahaha. The summer is beautiful and worth the wait. I'm trying to remember how hot last summer was here, but it's hard to think back that far.

    Brian, In my jurisdiction the stove is AGA certified with the manufacturers venting. An installer is not authorized to use another companies venting nor are you allowed to modify the venting as this will void the certification. I would check with Vermont Castings and /or your local gas authority as the modification you made may negatively impact your certification and thereby your fire insurance.

    • @ColoradoMountainLiving
      @ColoradoMountainLiving  Před 5 lety

      Thanks for sharing this. Will go check if AGA certified exists here. We talked at length with the stove distributor and he didn't say we couldn't use another venting pipe, only that it had to be a stovepipe for direct venting stove, wood stove pipe would not work.

    very nicely done, just a dumb question from a pest for questions. should the thermostat be so close to the stove. i had a pellet stove in my upstate house, until the noise from it, drowned out the tv set. but with that being said, it had a thermostat for it, and i mounted the stat in the center of the living room. i figure that with the stat behind the stove, or close to it, it will read the heat from the stove, and not from the room itself. do the walls od the stove get warm when the stove is running.

    • @ColoradoMountainLiving
      @ColoradoMountainLiving  Před 5 lety +1

      So it's the thermostat controller that is mounted next to the stove- but the actual thermostat is in the remote, which you can place anywhere in the room. We hope that once we put in the stone ledger wall behind the stove that it will absorb some of the heat and help to radiate warmth with the large stone mass.

    • @cuznjo1
      @cuznjo1 Před 5 lety

      @@ColoradoMountainLiving i am not a professional. so please call the people you bought the stove off of, and ask them what they think. with mine, i put the stat that you put on the wall behind the stove, in the middle of the room. that way, the stat will read the room temperature, and not the area the stove is in. please ask the people.

    You don't need to use thread compound on compression fittings, only on male/female pipe thread connections. It can actually cause a leak if it gets on the flare where the seal is made.

  • @jacksak
    @jacksak Před 5 lety +1

    That's a pro job. Did you have to get a gas line pressure inspection for that connection? And, if the electric wire in the grout line is hidden behind the stove, what about using grey furnace putty in the grout line to cover the wire in case you ever have to pull it out at a later time? Just a thought....

    • @ColoradoMountainLiving
      @ColoradoMountainLiving  Před 5 lety

      Our plumber installed the line and had the inspection done previously. That's a thought to use putty-definitely something that wouldn't take a jack hammer to remove if needed.

    Informative video about the stove and install. Yes, I hope you checked the alteration you made. I've heard specs are very specific.--brand and all (for safety). My question: I'm thinking of putting a gas line in and was thinking of maybe direct vent gas insert or radiant vented but now wondering if there is a direct vent gas stove insert? Is that different than a direct vent gas insert? Sorry, just trying to sort all the differences out. Would want for a secondary heat source but doesn't have to heat whole house. Don't like all the work and cleaning, maintenance involved in a wood fireplace. Want something decently efficient, without breaking the bank. Thank you!

    • @ColoradoMountainLiving
      @ColoradoMountainLiving  Před 3 lety +1

      Hmm. Not sure the answer to your question as we're not gas stove specialists. I think you'd want ventless, so it's just throwing off mild heat in the room you're in.

    This week, Bryan gets photobombed twice by Viggo. (Although purists would argue, since Viggo was simply laying on the floor the second time, this does not technically count as a photobombing.)
    Bryan - on behalf of all of the men on the planet, thank you for proving - to several decimal places - that there is no such thing as a 'small' home improvement project. We are in your debt.

  • @tiki_t

    Dumb question. Does it put out enough heat that you can actually cook on it like the old school wood stoves? Our house came with a wood burning stove but our county doesn't want us to burn wood. We like the idea of being able to cook when the power goes out.

    • @ColoradoMountainLiving

    • @davidbertschinger1110
      @davidbertschinger1110 Před 5 lety

      That may not be necessary, the actual thermostat is in the handheld remote. The wall application is simply the receiver for the remote.

      @ColoradoMountainLiving  Před 5 lety

      @DavidBertshinger is correct- the thermostat is in the remote. What is mounted on the wall is just the controller/receiver. The stove is a safe distance from the wall (actually further away than the minimum specs).

    restrictor plate, Nice stove but poor manual and poor support. The metal plate that comes with the stove is used to restrict the air intake and is adjusted to the height of the flue. Alas I find the instructions for adjusting the plate confusing to say the least.

    'Have a Vermont Casting DV gas stove, Pinnacle model, at my cabin. Mine is some 10 years old, so it's a bit different on the controls, but I do have the remote thermostat control and it works great. I love everything about it, and wouldn't trade it for anything else. See a picture at; www.small-cabin.com/forum/6_5135_0.html#msg75517
    'Not too sure you're going to need or want to use the outer screen, it sort of interferes with the view & their wont be a spark issue. Also, I think you may be overdoing the hearth and stone surround. These stoves are so safe, the stand-off requirements are nothing like that for a wood stove. I'm sure it will look great, just not required in this application.
    You'll figure out the remote, if you haven't already. I've found the auto mode especially nice, since it'll work just like a furnace to maintain a pre-set temperature wherever the remote is located, great nighttime feature. But I also like the manual mode, at low flame & w/o the fan. Congrats, you wont regret your choice.

    • @davidbertschinger1110
      @davidbertschinger1110 Před 5 lety +1

      The yellow gas line is that color for safety purposes. Since it's filled with combustible gas & thin walled, it's designed to be high visibility to help prevent damage. Paint it black if you want, but wait until all inspections are finished.

    • @ColoradoMountainLiving
      @ColoradoMountainLiving  Před 5 lety

      Initially we were going to do a wood stove in that area, so that's why all the stone, but also for looks. It appears to be more of a "fireplace area" than just a stove in the corner. Also think of the radiant heat the stone will absorb and emit! We are very excited about the stove- thanks for throwing in your experience and opinion! The remote is fine, Bryan just thought he read that you could turn the pilot on and off with it, but I didn't see that anywhere.
