      Hello Ukrainian, I hope you can see the big picture. When a democracy has two competing ideas, the people in the US arguing and then vote on the issue like move towards Russia or support Ukraine. I feel the vote in November will finish the debate. Now that Biden is re elected and the democratic party will control all government houses, the Ukraine assistance will not only continue but because of the victory in politics, it will open the flood gates to probably triple the current $80 bn. I firmly believe the debate had to happen. Now the debate is nearly over and it appears to be in Dems favor

    This is nothing new. We turned our backs on the Hmong in Vietnam. We turned our backs on the Kurds in Iraq and Syria and we turned our backs on Afghan Translators, And now when the threat is the greatest it's been since WW2, we turn our backs on the Ukrainians. For all the money we spent on the Coldwar to undermine the Soviets, the current opportunity to weaken the greatest threat to western world is a bargain and we are choosing to walk away. • @Texas240
      @Texas240 Před 2 měsíci

      Unfortunately, after treating the Russians like they were civilized for 50 years, in hopes they would become civilized, president Clinton completely overestimated Russian honor and civility.
      The Budapest Memorandum had no teeth and was only valid, in practical terms, as long as Clinton was president. After that, there is nothing to actually guarantee protection for Ukraine in the text, other than if they are hit with a nuclear attack they can appeal to the UN for help.
      The US led the effort to con Ukraine out of its deterrent at the same time we were telling them "someday" regarding NATO membership while we were telling Russia "no, we won't accept Ukraine into NATO."
      The war in Ukraine is absolutely the fault of the United States for the con game we played and it's our moral responsibility to give Ukraine whatever they need to protect their territorial integrity.

      We should not just blame Mike Johnson. I would blame Biden as well as he saw it coming for more than a year already. The Budapest Memorandum is not contingent on the approval of the US congress. Biden could send into Ukraine air defence troops with 25 patriot batteries to supplement Ukrainian forces. JFK took a much greater risk when US forces physically stopped Soviet nuclear submarines from reaching Cuba. However, Biden unlike JFK, has no balls nor principles. As a Singaporean, US weakness in Ukraine, justifies our preference not to be a treaty ally of the US although we have spent tens of billions of dollars paid in cash for US weapons and allow US access to our naval and air bases gratis.
      We have done work on chemical defence and, like all other smaller countries who have seen Biden in action, it's only a matter of time before we end up with some sort of nuclear capability.

    • @GARDENER42
      @GARDENER42 Před 2 měsíci

      To be fair, the treaty actually guarantees the US, UK, Russia & France would not attack Ukraine, not that the US would defend them.
      The only nation to breach this treaty is fascist Russia under Putin.

    • @ericchild8845
      @ericchild8845 Před 2 měsíci

      Um, news flash, the United States has repeatedly violated or outright ignored treaties with other countries, sovereign American Indian tribes and groups of people around the globe for our entire existence. Any other country should at this point be well aware of the risk of taking a commitment from us as rock solid. We are flakey, fractured and can hardly manage to get our own country to function on a year to year basis. This mostly due to the deep division in our political situation. Too many uneducated and ignorant folks are drinking the kool aid and voting.

    I am German, in my mid-50s and grew up in one of the largest US garrison towns outside the USA. As a teenager, I witnessed major NATO maneuvers like Able Archer from the outside. I saw the US as a country willing to stand up for its allies in Europe.
    My father and grandfather, who had lived through the Nazi era, always saw the Americans as liberators. My grandfather was even imprisoned in the Flossenbürg concentration camp for a while as a member of the Social Democratic Party and often told me about the nightmarish conditions there.
    So my family, and I too, always saw the Americans as liberators and defenders of democracy. I am all the more shocked now that large sections of Americans are following a pompous mini-Putin like Trump.
    The Republican Party has long since been taken over by anti-democratic forces. It's no longer the party of Lincoln.
    In Europe, a second term in office for Donald Trump is viewed with great concern. The USA will then definitely no longer be a reliable ally.

      Trump will destroy the USA through his stupidity, the rest of the world will quickly see that any agreements with the US will be torn up. This will cause a trade backlash with countries divesting trade with the USA and broadening their trade base to limit heir exposure to a potential rouge nation.
      There is probably a great upside here for the EU to take over the "stable Ally" mantle and gain a lot of trade that way.

    I’m from the UK, and extremely troubled to hear that political funding in the US is a free for all. It helps to explain why Trump is so supportive of Russia. Not only can the funding sources buy allegiance, but with no limits to how much can be donated the sheer amounts themselves can be so corrupting.
    The Electoral Commission of the UK ensures the law is applied on who can donate and how much.

I wonder why that was. 💰 by any chance? Oh and voter ID which immediately disenfranchises a good chunk of the electorate if they don't have specific ID which is not always possible (cost, disability etc) to obtain. French guy here.What Trump said and Johnson did have already discredited America. It began with the unilateral withdrawing of the Paris accords and of the Iran deal (whether you liked this deal or not, it's the word unilateral that matters here). I'm afraid that the word of America is of much less value now and it won't be mended easily even if Trump is not elected... It's a pity and I wish it were otherwise. This said, something good can come out of that : Europe more united and more strategically independant. I wish. But, as you have the MAGA cult, we have our own pro-Putin traitors here too. And they can become strong after all the elections that will take place in Europe in 2024. I hope not.

      Yes, it is a pity and we wish otherwise, but we, and most especially Ukraine, can't afford to wait. Scholz has had 2.5 years to grow a backbone - he has done some good, but far too slowly. Long-range missiles, stricter sanctions on companies who still trade (whole prouct or components) to Russ via the back door, immediate payment to Ukraine of part at least of the frozen assets of oligarchs, make large payments to Ukrainian drone manufacturers to support their innovations and production, same with ammunition. Fund locals who are in the business of providing a myriad of help directly to soldiers and civilians. Large numbers of armoured vehicles to transport troops and wounded, batteries and radios, and as much front-line medical aid as possible including top quality tourniquets. Most of that currently comes from volunteers and small organisations or individuals, many based in Ukraine, who know exactly where the funding and supplies are needed most.

    The USA is not the world, and the world is not the USA. There is a big difference. Trying to be strong, powerful and to rule the world when many of the sitizens are poor who cannot afford medical care, drug addicts, or homeles living on the street is the result of an inadequate perception of reality. And Biden and Trump abandoning the women of Afghanistan to the Taliban in 2021. That was shameful. Until then only 2,500 troops had kept the Taliban out of power. When the US left the Afghan army simply threw down their weapons and fled. But as long as the US was there they felt 'courageous' enough to help keep the Taliban in the hills.

      @@sugoidessho While I agree that was mishandled, how long should we have stayed? What do we owe Afghanistan? Many of our soldiers fighting and dying there were not even born on 9/11. We aren't colonizers. We didn't invade so we could live there. Afghanistan belongs to the people of Afghanistan. Governing their county is their responsibility, not ours. It only became our responsibility because they allowed an "act of war" to be perpetrated from their territory.
