This is actually so true, every single character is a skinny little twink and then when people go at her for having no plus sized or non skinny characters people are like “Well there was this one character that showed up in this episode-“ and the you check and… they were there for like ten minutes tops. (Like Mimzy) Also tell me why color palate and design wise every single character looks like a twelve year old’s edgy gatchalife oc 😭

On the DeviantArt thing, Vivziepop has had most of her characters since she was in high school, and quite a few have barely changed since them, which makes their designs a lot more embarrassing since it seems like she’s so stuck in the past that she didn’t even think to try and improve her designs over time 🤦🏽♀️
thats so frustrating urggg. my characters (who i drew in the vid) are ocs i made in middle school and they’ve changed sm because i’ve changed and gotten better at art, writing, and designing so vivid needs to step up 😭
One reason the designs are the same from high school is because she doesn’t want to change their designs too drastically, to the point that they are completely different characters. A lot of people grew up with those characters.
I agree though that the color palettes are way too similar.
That’s why Husk looks so out of place and his desígnales no sense, he was an OC gifted to Vivziepop by a friend (or maybe her sister) so she hasn’t changed him since.
the sad thing is that she cut the only diverse character she had from the cast (mimzy), she cut the only blue character she had (baxter), and she cut out not her only, but one of the only non human looking creatures (crymini)
she has the ability to create a diverse cast (on her timber project there was three main characters, one of which was a chubbier girl named maggie, she's super adorable too) she just like doesnt lol
i still love this show though, and i love the artstyle
and that is why i watch videos like this, so i dont make the same mistakes when i draw in her art style

I dont want to sound like Im getting over emotional about nothing but I do want to make a few points. Saying Mimsy is the ONLY diverse character is a bit much. Alastor is indigenous, Vaggie is Salvadorien, Velvette and Carmine are Latino (I think) and there are more. Also, Vox is blue, the two fish girls from the circus episode are blue, Mammon is green, Asmodius is blue, Bee is yellow…these are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

I agree with most of this, but I think her reasoning for lack of diverse/unique main characters is because even before the show, her fictional world had a fandom. People are attached to these characters, and they probably wouldnt like any drastic changes
she could have just made them diverse originally… back when i was like 12 making my ocs i made them diverse just bc its good practice to do

@@NyehNyeh12No but they can put the effort in to make diverse features. And maybe they’re not white or skinnier, maybe drawing these diverse features are basic art to them because it’s familiar to them.
Having an art style that doesn't click with the person can be a huge turn off for some people. Animation is art, and the whole point is looking at it. If you don't like looking at it then it would make sense why you wouldn't watch it. You also do make some good points about character diversity and color diversity. A huge critique about the shows art style is that the character almost blend in the background. The "it's hell" comment is a lame excuse to not explore different color pallets for the characters. Especially since there are demons in folklore that are not red. Heck I think even purples would look amazing and bring diversity while still fitting the vibe. The point is that color diversity and body diversity really is just bare minimum of mastering your art style. Even shows that are extremely stylized have diversity in the characters not only in body and looks but also colors. Of course there are always exceptions to the rule, but this is just not one of them. And even so you know what they say about exceptions, they don't make the rule.

Some people just need to realize that characters are from creativity and nobody’s art/characters should ever be judged. If you don’t like somebody’s art, it is just because we all have different tastes in style. That is art. It’s not always nice to judge someone’s art unless they want to be. (Plus Vivziepop’s art is very creative and amazing).
this is criticism, something art will face around the world. maybe try to understand that first. I like the show and the characters but I can also disagree on the constant body types. I’m a latin man with chubby features and coming from another latin woman, i expected her to implement more diverse features in her show if she’s already canonically making some of her OCS hispanic

when you were talking about diversity in the cast, one instance i was reminded of was the fact that alastor was supposed to be a creole person.... you can see how that turned out

One thing about it that irks me about it is how cluttered the designs are. Why does Husk need all of those spots on his wings???? It looks like a NIGHTMARE to animate, and I'm surprised that it hasn't caused the death of a poor animator yet. There are just too many useless details that don't translate well into a cartoon like this, and it makes the whole thing an absolute eyesore.

As a big fan of hazbin hotel, I think you had a lot of good criticisms. I'm also kinda bothered by almost every character being extremely skinny/lanky, it's even worse that there are other body types in the background because it shows that they *can* draw other body types and features, they just choose not to 💀

Just because both shows take place in hell doesn't mean that their main colors need to be red, like look at the background characters. Those suckers aren't just red- they are a hole bunch of colors!! Plus the main cast can sometimes just blend in to well.
As for the body shape, there isn't anything against making slim/thin characters (I'm saying this as on of my own characters ended up with the vizipop body- I HAVE A REASON BEHIND IT I SWEAR.) but if all of your characters just end up as a copy & paste body shape wise- It's very bothersome and makes it hard to tell them apart.
I don’t think the color palette thing is that big of a deal. That could easily be passed off as a stylistic choice- there’s tons of media that includes limited colors that works well stylistically. Main problem for me is diversity, like you said. All the (main) characters are skinny, and honestly there isn’t even much ethnic diversity.
I do really like the shows though- the writing definitely isn’t bad. It Can be a bit choppy at times though (especially in hazbin)
I'm pretty sure vaggie is Salvadorian, Husk has some russian decent, Alastor is mixed creole, Nifty is japanese, Angel is italian, sir pentious & vel are british, and Val is hispanic
As much as I love her work (in story writing and a few character designs) I can’t disagree w/ the fact that almost everyone looks the same in design, color coding, anatomy, etc. Like for example you look at Alastor in the scene of his radio tower in ep 2 in his fight with Samsung tv. You can barely make out his skinny twink figure in the already red room. While she does add different anatomy to *some* characters, like Vortex, mammon, or Asmodeus, the rest are skinny 5 foot twinks. That’s it.
Of course with background characters it’s a bit harder to make designs but most of the Animators have their own hellaverse OCs that they’ll animate into the background. They’re still bland, the imp ocs, hellhound ocs, and Goetia Ocs are all the same just with different haircuts, clothing, and jawlines.
While I only have a few characters for little mini comics I like to work on, I still have color and Anatomy Variety. However I do take Inspo from Vivienne’s artstyle in places like the eyes, hands, hair, and *sometimes* I’ll draw the bodies like she does but that’s it.
As much as i love her shows this is so real😞 i mean there is a character with an afro but most of the time her hair is styled in different ways and you only see it in one episode.

So, a few notes. Whether or not you like the style is up to you and that’s fine. I agree Vivziepop could have done a lot more in terms of colour pallet and shape language and surface stuff but (While I am not a superfan) I seem to have watched more of the show than you said you did and I enjoy watching the lore videos.
The reason for all the red; they are in hell. It’s the pride ring. Everything is red themed. Other rings have different colours. The fish ring (I forget what sin) is all a turquoise/blue colour and the characters (while still skinny) have different themes and shape language. I think Viv really wanted to stick to the theme and make that clear which limited her choices a lot. It could have been better but whatever.
For the ethnicities thing, I think Viv did a decent job. Once again, its not perfect, but she put effort into it. I feel like I have to be careful here because I don’t want to be accidentally racist but characters do have features from their ethnicities. In Hazbin hotel, Vaggie is Salvadorian, has darker skin and a hooked nose. Velvette also has darker skin and at one point is shown “dressed down” and naturally has really curly hair. There are others but I cant mention everything about everyone.
It’s harder to talk about the diversity in Hellova boss because most of the characters are not and have never been human so they aren’t tied to human places of origin. There is diversity within types of demon, such as Loona being a hell hound, Stolas being Goetia, whatever Striker is, etc, and they all have different character designs, shape language and themes.
Beyond physical design choice, the voice acting is really good and the character’s personalities are interesting. The plots are fine and the songs have good moments and bad.
I personally like hazbin hotel better than hellova boss.
In the end, your opinion is still up to you. Honestly I’m just playing devil’s advocate (lol) and giving Vivziepop a bit of defence.

Color: depends on the ring they're from (and how they died sometimes) because if you look at someone from a different ring they're not gonna be just the same colors and the main cast are all from the same rings

With what you said about the color palette is understandable. However, having characters with color palettes that contrast with the background would make the characters more appealing + recognizable imo.
For body shapes, I hope that in future works Viv and the animators would learn more about animating different body types and implement that into creating more diverse character designs and such.

I agree with everything you said except the lack of ethnic representation. One of the main characters is Latino and has a certain nose shape that is very common in Latino/Hispanic people. Along with that, another character who is important to the plot and has quite a lot of screen time is black-coded and has a darker skin tone. She is shown with a lot of different hairstyles and an Afro is some scenes. I understand why you think this though, I shouldn’t expect you to know this since you haven’t seen the show and are looking into it from an outside perspective.
The ethnic representation is barely there & barely noticeable. Most of the characters are furries, but ignoring that, what's the point in defending something done so obviously poorly? Vivzie would make an actual effort if she wanted to, but she doesn't. If a certain character is supposed to be Latino or black, then actually do that.
i actually did know about these characters as i did do research into the show beforehand and having only 2 major characters that are alluded to be certain races doesn't cut it. especially having the character with curly hair constantly change hair styles is a trope that doesn't account for how time intensive caring for curls is
So first of all that thumbnail caught my eye because lmao.
And second of all if you think both shows are obsessed with twinks you'd be right aside from the designs, all twink characters are shown as appealing and seductive, angel dust is a corn star, and there's this guy called chaz that is good in bed as the show loves to imply and lots more, they're usually overly flirty giving bedroom eyes to the camera and characters, making innuendos and all that stuff, there was an episode where one of the girl imp assassin disguised herself as a boy and wouldn't you know it everyone was telling her how hot and amazing she is while in the disguise.
So for context me and my boyfriend really like muscular men we both stopped watching helluvaboss because we got turned off when muscular background characters most of them are portrayed as rude jerks, and not only that but they also usually gets slaughtered in the most gruesome ways by the hot topic squad (main cast) but when a twink dies like chaz i mentioned earlier, it's suddenly off screen, the story is good but not good enough for us to keep watching if it means more twink worship and buff dudes dead.
I agree with the body diversity and using just a little more green and blue but the only thing is that all of these characters are set in hell and if you look more at the angels in hasben hotel they are a lot more but still very chill rant
It’s not even the fact that twink bodies are the issue (which in this case they definitely are) but when making a character design the most important thing when making their appearance/body type is to make sure their personality and character fits it!
Striker for example, is an assassin and knows his way around a ranch. He easily over powers multiple trained assassins of the show (especially at once), casually lassoed a big ass pig, and can take multiple stab wounds near the kidney. And overall that with his cowboy/western macho persona taken into account as well..

It really makes me thing that Vivziepop makes character designs for which are the most convenient to her and her team to draw rather than any actual passion towards her characters at all. Which might not be the case but she surely knows how to make an impression.
I mean you probably can't distinguish them because you've never watched the shows. I'm not the biggest fan of Vizziepops aesthetic and yes the color scheme of the shows are very repetitive because everythings set in the same theme of hell and thats how she decided to portray it. However, clearly most people don't have issues distinguishing her characters because theyve spent time with them and associate personalities and events with them. As well as voices, how they emote etc. Not all characters are nor have to be designed like mascots. Yeah mascot like characters thaf focus on instant recognitizability one site through color design is great for making them universally memorable but theres nothing objectively wrong with going for other kinds of experiences. Its hard to see the form of criticism as of much value considering ofc you can't tell the characters apart when you've had almost no experience with them in the medium they exist in. For me once I watched her animation, alot of the annoyances of her stuff kind of work in the actual product better than expected. Its not like I think Vizzies work is even that impressive or perfect. It deserves critique. But alot of criticism seems to come from people who just aren't into what its trying to do in the first place and are uninterested in engaging with it for what it is. Instead bringing in their personal subjective and often unimaginative rule set for "good and bad" which is fine until you start assuming what you find as flaws are actually failings of the work even when its possibly more down to taste than the subject of the criticism or are so bothered that a piece of media exist that doesn't appeal to your personal guidelines. Cleary alot of people find the similarly colored characters very memorable and interesting so they don't really have that flaw function wise. You simply don't find them memorable or appealing and it makes sense. But it also feels a bit less valid compared to if you engaged with it more than on a surface level and reached that conclusion. How can you say you're mad that you don't know why people like a show after admiting you know nothing about the show? And I say all of this as someone who thinks alot of Vizzies characters are cringe over designed and ugly tumblr esc, but I wouldn't call them bad or unmemorable or all the same.

Guys, Satan has been revealed in the Season Two trailer of Helluva Boss! And, for you people who complain about the skinniness of the characters, he’s buff, he’s on steroids, he’s full of rage, and he is definitely not a twink.
Also, I think your complaints are kinda hypocritical, as you guys mockingly say all the characters are skinny, yet you also made fun of Mimzy for being fat! And, no, I’m not joking! They mocked Mimzy for being portrayed as being fat, and their reason is: it offends the fat community. That is literally the same excuse on why they’re complaining about the characters being skinny!
Also by the way, there’s lore about the colors! As, the reason why Hazbin Hotel revolves on red is because it takes place in the Pride Ring, not to mention the fact that the Sinners aren’t allowed to go in any other ring besides Pride. In Helluva Boss, however, it focuses on 3 imps and a hellhound, who due to being hellborns can actually explore the other rings of hell, such as; *Pride Ring: Red, Wrath Ring: Orange, Gluttony Ring: Yellow, Greed Ring: Green, Lust Ring: Blue, Envy Ring: Purple, Sloth Ring: Pink!* (why the heck did I sound like the narrator of a Power Rangers episode?)
Basically Vivziepop decided that she’ll make each ring monochrome in their respective color, for some reason. Let me guess, she didn’t want people to think the rings will be in the same place, when in reality, they’re not.
Also, Vivziepop has been making episodes of Helluva Boss, and most of them explore way more places than hell, including Earth and the other rings, Meaning that Vivziepop does know how to use the colors blue, green and purple. She just uses them very scarcely.
Also, by the way, I just want to clarify. I’m not going to force you to like the show, I just want to let you know about something you’ll find either interesting or shocking.
Oh, and one more thing. Imps are the most diverse thing in hell. They have different hairstyles. They can be bald. They can have freckles with different patterns of horns. When they get a scar, it turns into a more appealing pattern unlike human scars, it’s their tattoo. They can be different sizes (for example, the teacup imps who are little small munchkins). Heck, they can have different skin colors based on their ring. Imps in the lust ring take the form of Succubis and can appear in pink, while Imps in the Envy ring can be fish-like. Oh, and due to the imps not being humans, they ain’t European, that’s for sure! XD 5:52-5:59

The lore related reason for the color palettes are specifically reserved for BACKGROUNDS. Skies, architecture, atmosphere, ect. NOT the direct species of demons in them.
Even though we’re talking about hazbin you bring up helluva. Ok fine. I’ll bite. The imps you are talking about are imps and background succubi are specifically not designed by viv herself. They’re ocs belonging to members of Spindlehorse to fill a crowd. The reason they’re more diverse is because it’s a SPECIES of a singular demon. Not multiple characters designed in high school. The main subject is body types too, the majority have twink bodies too. Blitzø, Fizz, Moxxie, Millie, Striker, Stolas’ servant, Wallie Wackford, and so much more. There are a few exceptions like Millie’s dad but again that’s one out of a see of ocs and Viv’s twinks.
For the love of god come up with better arguments and get your lore right it’s killing me

During the song happy day in hell, we see a buff and muscular guy weilding an axe. In the start of the first episode we see a guy with a grenade for a body. During the song “Welcome Home” we could see a bunch of sinners in different colors and shapes. Just because imps are a different species doesn’t mean Vivziepop still make her main characters twinks. And saying the background characters that ACTUALLY fit your regulation don’t count is just frustrating! Yes some may not be essential to the story, but heyDo you want me to name main characters who aren’t twinks, fine! Mammon, Alastor (demon form), Beelzebub, Asmodeus, Satan, Adam, Millie’s dad. Does Valentino count? Mammon is definitely not the definition for thin. The fact people say everyone is red despite the fact Vox exists. Heck Husk and Angel Dust even have that much red on them, and yet you say they have the same color pallets. First of all in the color wheel, pink is its own color. I checked there many times. Secondly, yes Husk has red accents on him, SURE! However most of the red is the back of his wings, with some red being accents or card patterns (BECAUSE HE USED TO BE A GAMBLER!) Husk’s primary color is still red. Also are we seriously gonna mock Vivziepop for not knowing how color theory works, and yet we completely ignore the gorgeous backgrounds that use different colors. Can I bring up the lust ring with it’s blue and purple accents (the first image of it actually show way more color than I thought it would) or the gluttony ring, it has accents of yellows, greens, pinks and blues.Just because different colors take place in backgrounds does not mean everything is still red!
Like, I know you guys hate the over influence of red and red and red and red, but come on! Just watch any thing other than Hazbin Hotel and not complain! I literally said in my comment that I do not want to force you to change your mind. A person’s opinion is still an opinion. However you did retaliate and said that I didn’t know crap about the lore, despite the fact that you’re probably the person to take one look at the show, not watch any other episode, and judge it just because of the single glance. Also before you say some of the characters aren’t made by Vivziepop, they technically are still her characters in her show, just not her actual characters.
The main purpose of the comment was to atleast show some light that Hazbin Hotel has yet to show. I don’t mean or intend to be hostile, I just want to reason. And plus, I would rather do something else than argue with someone who’s already made their mind on a series they hate.
@@x_n0morph Oh and you may be correct about the rings not affecting the color, but there’s one issue with that statement. The rings affect which species can live there. The Pride ring has sinners, the Wrath ring has imps, the Gluttony ring has hellhounds, the Greed ring has either clowns or sharks, the Lust ring have succubis, we have yet to see the envy ring and the sloth ring’s personal inhabitants works at the hospital (the only part of the ring as of now) however we do see some candle-headed and goat-esque demons. If you put them in the same place they are quite easy to differentiate due to them being in different sizes, shape, and proportions.
Also I say imps are diverse as they are quite literally every where in the different rings. Also just because some imps are background character doesn’t mean they aren’t characters.

If you haven’t even seen the show, how can you make an unbiased opinion? What is the point to needlessly bash other artists who have worked hard to achieve their goals? Why spread negativity? What’s the point?

they have the same colors because they're all in hell its going to be mostly red, white, black like colors like that the environment matters and how can you judge a whole show only based off what the art style is? and say she doesn't deserve her show getting made simply because you hate the art like the show got made because its popular and fun and interesting. I'm not saying you have to like the show or her or her art style for that matter but saying stuff like that without even thinking about what you're saying is just stupid. Maybe next time just think over things before making a whole video about it.

idk if you got other comments of this, but lavendertowne's replacement hazbin redesign video, she mentioned as like quick text popups ; why all the fans saying in her og video "it's meant to be red, they are in the pride ring and in helluva boss, all the 7 rings of hell have different colors and whoever is from what ring matches the color of the background" feels like reverse engineering lore to avoid criticism (but in helluva boss, the greed and lust rings aren't JUST red and black, but still tons of characters blend in [mammon, verosicka, asmodeus, chaz)

It’s sad that the fans of the show are getting their own lore wrong. The characters aren’t red because of their ring it’s the sky, atmosphere, and architecture that are affected by the semi-strict color palette of their ring.😭
