I have a different view of tyla’s weakness. Like you said tyla has universal appeal but she also has this different or newness because South African culture is so rich but hasn’t been put to the forefront on this level before. But it ties into her weakness because a lot of the criticism and hate she gets is bc of her tapping into a market (black American market with her promotions) that misunderstands her culture because of lack of exposure. It’s something she can overcome but her team has kind of had a few missteps with this. It’s going to take a lot of careful navigating but I can see her team getting better at this!
On another note I’m surprised Chappell roan and Sabrina carpenter are not on the emerging list. They are having the same rise as Tyla around the same time, it’s all gen z online talks about this summer. Charli xcx, Sabrina and Chappell.

I disagree about Rihanna not releasing music being a weakness. She’s constantly in the top 10 of the most monthly listeners on Spotify without new music. She has a strong catalogue and that’s proven by her longevity despite not releasing anything. She has nothing to prove atp and honestly she doesn’t really have to release anything ever again although new music would be nice…
Rihanna released 8 albums most of them back to back. Her music output is already a solid discography. She could no longer release and her legacy is set, and that’s why people want more. Anti is definitely her Lauren Hill stunt.

People say she’s emerging not bc of her time in the industry but she still hasn’t hit the level of mainstream to be considered a vet. Taylor swift is a vet. Beyoncé is. Adele is. Tinashe had a hit a decade ago, and then due to label issues was relegated to underrate and niche. It killed a lot of her momentum. The general public forgot about her and she had to rely on her fanbase and fans of the genre she makes to stay afloat. She just now had a third hit if you will, with nasty.
