- This simple mountain bike upgrade will improve your riding skills! I ride in Barcelona on full speed MTB trails, huge dirt jumps and sick ebike lines to show you that saddle choice makes a big difference! Which would you choose?
I ride the famous bike parks of Barcelona starting with Pure Ridings, a bike park that is filled with technical downhill trails, fast flow trails and big jumps with the goal set on testing Ergon MTB saddles. After shredding the first bike park which head to La Poma which is probably the world's most famous dirt jump and slopestyle training facility. This place is filled with dirt jumps, a foam pit and also a huge airbag which makes it a perfect place to land new tricks and get crazy. After fitting a new ergon prototype saddle I even managed to land some new tricks!! From here we then head out to ride ebikes for a quick afternoon session. The final day saw us riding at 4Riders bike park which is another hugely jump filled riding spot with all sorts of different levels of jumps to shred! Which spit was your favourite?

Here are some of the biggest differences I've found from riding that don't cost a fortune:
1. Pedals. If you want flats, upgrading from crap ones will change your entire riding experience
2. MTB shoes. Again, related to flats: going from regular shoes to Five Tens (or similar) will dramatically change your faith in foot grip.
3. Dropper post. If you don't have a dropper post and it will fit your bike, you're doing it wrong. This is probably one of the biggest game-changers for mountain biking in its history. The ability to completely move the seat out of the way on the fly is mind-blowing for those who have been in the sport for awhile.
4. Tires. Not all tires work everywhere, and getting good tires that grip in your home terrain will change your riding style because you have faith in being able to rail covers.
Outside of that. Honorable mentions go to brakes. If you have mediocre brakes, going to good brakes allows you to have the faith to brake later and harder.
Can definitely confirm the dropper post and brakes. I'd used cable brakes since I first learned to ride and recently upgraded to hydraulic brakes - the ability to stop the bike with just a single finger is game-changing.

Agreed 100%. Even just replacing the nubs in your existing flats can be a huge difference for $20. I would say for people that are contemplating changing/ upgrading their brakes, consider just swapping to a larger rotor first. It can make all the difference, and its way cheaper than a full new brake setup.

Have to admit I do prefer the videos where we see some DIY mechanics (ft. The Kerb 😂) or some bodged cheap bike and/or a weird concept bike/idea being tested to its limits, not to mention surf/skate action..
BUT pretty cool to see bikepark shredding done properly once in a while.. the sound of the tyres skipping across the dirt satisfying.. plus nice POV - only thing missing was Lew on his bed bike!! 😂😂😂😂

I moved my saddle forward 3 inches and it dramatically changed the ergonomics of the ride. It's a 2020 Giant Yukon 2 fat bike.
Don't know how long I've been waiting for a Sam - bienve video, but I know that I am happy now.

Ergon saddles must be the best... I remember back in my day azonic dh saddles were the coolest...made of Kevlar too. Those things suck now though. Crazy how much the technology has evolved

I think the most important parts to upgrade are brakes and pedals, both give you way more control and trust in your riding

Looking at buying a canyon spectral 29 cfr as my first proper mtb , everything I’ve research. The spectral 29 is sounding up like the perfect first proper mtb would you recommend one as first full sus mtb. ?

My perfect saddle was the Ergon Sm pro, but since they added the deep groove/channel to all their saddles I cant use them any more. Ive tried all the ergon sizes, but the groove is super uncomfortable. My sit bones are not suited to that design at all.

Dropper post is working for dh sessions, personally didn't feel the need for it at xc rides, not all mtb'ers have the luxury of parks, so if you need to pedal for 20km to be in a forest, is dead weight.
