Thank you very much for viewing my video! If you put one of those two tuners on your truck please let me know because I would like to see the difference that they make.
I have 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 and looking to get this tuner. I have 33x12.5 in tires and 6 inches of lift. I run regular right now and at highway speeds and town driver it just doesn’t have the power. By chance you have a good tune to help with performance and smoother shift points. Thank you and I will change to premium fuel if needed to
watch ebay seeing them for 329 i made an offer to a guy and picked one up new in package for 292 shipped cant complain. cant wait to try it in my 2008 silverado.
drtracyst These tuners seem to work best on the newer body style Silverados for some reason. I want to hear more about it when you have it installed and driven it to hear what you think of it.
Question for you. Are you able to adjust the temperature for the thermostat on your tuner? And if so, how do you access it on the tuner? Do you have to do another update to accomplish this?I purchased the same tuner and installed it last night. I have 2013 Ram 1500.
What year and model is your truck? Some years require fuses to be pulled that they don't interfere with the download process. If it is not your daily driver I would recommend calling Bully Dog Tech Support because they will have the correct way to fix the problem.
Hey Man I was very intrested I wanna know how do you get 15 miles a gallon on a 6.0 I have a 250025 and it gives me 10 miles a gallon will this get tuner help my gas mileage please let me know ASAP
Hey bud, i just installed my gt platinum last night, but got tired and didnt finish actually installing a tune to the vehicle. Is it okay to juat drive it with the system installed and leave it stock for awhile to just view information and such?
Wanting to get a tuner to increase efficiency and most importantly disable my factory governor for my 07 Chevy Silverado as I was suggested to look at the Diablo sport tuner. Now see a lot of vids on the Bulky dog tuner I want to be able to finally get to and cruise at the full 120 Please give all insight before I make this purchase. I am green in DIY stuff on my stuck so need to know I can tackle this as well as if I should get a K&N intake first. Thanks in advance
Grew up on the autobahn and just don't appreciate my speed being controlled when I am on a road trip, driving in a chain with my fellaz who have G-Wagons and Audi trucks and so forth and when we get open road I am the only one that is FORCED to be left behind. Now my question are: Which of these Bully Dog Tuners do I need to get since I see they have this new one that I don't have to have mounted on my dash but just kept in the glove box so it continues to receive updates and so forth. Also, what is the difference between this Bully Dog vs the Diablo Sport tuner so I get the one that suits all my needs. Lastly, do I need to do a K&N Intake upgrade before I get one of these tuners and do I need to look to do any other upgrades besides that? Thanks
Bishop Kalliko I haven't heard very much about the newest Tuner that Bully Dog has released so idk what it is like. I like my Bully Dog and I have heard that the Diablo is a good set up as well. For the features I have heard that they are similar. Supporting mods would be an intake of some sort and an exhaust upgrade would help a lot. I don't want to discourage you from having fun but I will honestly say that no truck, whether be chevy, dodge or Ford, is made to run at 120 for long periods of time. It will cause the engine to overheat and most likely blow. It is ok to hit 120 and then come down, but staying there is a whole different story. Just be careful running your truck that hard. Thanks for the view and I hope I answered all of your questions!
That is why I am referring to these post for insight before dropping dough on this. True I want ALL my truck has to give but to spend dough to just get that full 100+ for just "moments at a time" aren't a need and I can pass if that turns out to be the case. I may make the intake upgrade just to get better performance out of my truck since I already have an exhaust upgrade.
Bishop Kalliko Yes sir I understand completely about saving cash haha. The unfortunate truth is that although many trucks are quick 0-60 wise, to get to 120 and sustain it without damage would require a large chunk of change and a decent amount of performance parts. I would ask around some more just to be sure because I'm a very safety cautious person when it comes to mechanic and It may be able to do it without a whole lot of upgrades.
Unfortunately bud this tuner is not an "On the fly" style system. With that being said, whatever adjustments you want to make has got to be installed through the download process I have shown. The main reason that gas tuners are not "on the fly" is because for performance they require higher octane fuel. This is actually a good thing because people would tend to run the wrong tune with the wrong fuel out of pure excitement and possibly hurt their motor. Not saying that you particularly would it is just a reason the systems are designed the way they are.
Justin Emery No sir your transmission will be fine as long as it is not run hard all the time. I've had the tuner on my truck over a year and have done everything from towing tractors to running it wide open. Mine is still performing good.
Justin Emery I have a 2012 with the 4.8l. Did it give you better performance? And increase in acceleration? Mine seems slow off the line. Considering changing gear ratios as well
The performance tune increased the horsepower more than what I expected. Warning in advance though, the premium tune uses a lot of fuel. I know on 2007.5 and newer trucks, I don't know about ones older than that, the option for AFM can be deleted and that is where the real power is gained. Depending on make, model, mileage, and condition the tuner on premium is suppose to roughly add 30hp. The mid-grade is 15ish and the regular is 5 or less. The premium tune does require premium fuel, as I am sure that you know, and it is costly to run.
Derron Patterson I cannot give you a solid answer for I am not familiar with what it will do on Dodge vehicles. I do know that most people with v8 engines see a difference that is quite noticeable.
Southern Silverado, if I want to disable to the AFM, do I just uninstall the program and then reinstall it and when the AFM portion comes up just select disable?
Andrew Kohl I'm glad everything worked out for you bud. Yeah some of GM's things may seem handy at some points put most of the time they hurt more than they help.
2016 sierra slt 5.3 v8. it's my daily just had intake & exhaust installed but the shop could not get this bully dog to work past this region code error. tech support left early on Friday too go figure
With this tuning system there is no straight up economy setting. The only thing that you can do is pick the octane of fuel you run. Some of my other bully dog videos on my page explain what I have seen in my fuel mileage a little better than I can type it. Thanks for checking out my videos and if you have any more questions please feel free to ask!
Hello, I’ve had this tuner on my GMC Sierra 1500 5.3 extra cab for about five years now, just put in a new 5.3 crate motor and new transmission, do I need to update the tuner or does it just adjust it self to the motor, I also have 35 in. Tires just like I e had since the beginning, can you tell me if I need to do anything with my tuner I haven’t touched the tuner since installed please reply
Just bought the gt platinum. Out of the box not a good start, file was for a diesel and I have a gas. Box did say gas btw. So spent 20mins on the phone with bullydog and he was able to take over my laptop and add the correct file. Yaaa not so much... one of the main reasons I bought this this was to disable the AFM, I can't find it on the install menu. I went through all the options I think. Here in Canada this thing cost me just under $700.
dvrham1 Unfortunately bud I no longer have this truck and tuner. If you look down through the comments I believe there was a conversation I had with another gentleman where I listed the model number of the tuner and everything.
Southern Silverado just heard back from bullydog..and unfortunately from 2013 chev changed encryption and they can't unlock that feature. So a heads up to any future customers. Other then that I am impressed with the difference in the truck from the rest of the tweaks. I should have done more homework. Cheers and thanks
Yes sir you can. I use it all the time. Everything from the factory can be used and some of them even deleted. The AFM, active fuel management, option is the easiest to delete and add power, but it uses a lot of fuel.
+hektor22s The performance setting for the tuner gives the truck a great deal more power than what you would expect. I raced a guy in a 2005 Duramax that was equipped with a +230rwhp EFI live tune, and my front fender was at his drivers door. The fuel mileage in that setting is a little better than stock. The regular octane setting gets the best fuel mileage, but there is not much of a power increase over stock with the regular tune. If you have any more questions I will be happy to answer what I can.
I had this tuner in my 01 Chevy Silverado had a wreck the motor will not run so I just snatched out the tuner want to put it in my 4Runner is that possible without redoing the factory setting?
Shawn Clayborn To my understanding, the Tuner is married to the first vehicle it is put on because it runs the vin and setting for that vehicle. I do not think it will work with application.
Yes sir this is the 40417-299 version 2.0. I have not seen anything about being able to change the idle speed manually, but I have noticed that certain tunes change the idle. The regular tune keeps the idle close to 900-1000 for about 20-30 seconds and the premium tunes goes straight to stock as soon as it starts. I don't know if this is something that is just happening to me or not but I have noticed that the tuner changed the idle itself.
Roberto Sweet There was a gentleman that commented on here a while back about having the same problem with a 2016. If I were you, I would scroll down through the comments and find the discussion between me and him. It would help to message him and see what happened and also to call Bully Dog for help if the problem is not resolved.
If you look in the description area of the video it will take you to the Bully Dog website through a link I put in it. There you can enter your vehicle info and it will show all the products they offer for it.
Hey i got a question, i have a stock 07 silverado 5.3L v8 and i feel like my old v6 truck had more torque then my new v8 so i was wanting to get one of these to increase the torque but since its stock i was wondering if i need any upgrades before i install the tune
Jacob Hau Many of the tuner companies explain that the full power gains are met with the assistance of an aftermarket exhaust and air intake systems. The tuner will add a little bit of power on stock everything, but these few modifications will help get the full power that they promote.
Jacob Hau They are not difficult to install at all. The biggest thing is to make sure that you have a good computer so you can download tunes relatively fast and to update the tuner every so often. I also have videos of a few features that the tuner offers and the uninstall process to put the truck back to stock.
From my understanding, the tunes themselves are based off of the base fuels for the engine. This means that if the truck is made to run e85 from the factory, there will be a tuning option for that. My truck was not e85 compatible. To also be honest, e85 is not really a thing in my region of the country. We still run normal grades of gasoline that range from 87-93 and diesel that runs from 40-50 cetane.
It is doing the same thing to me. I have a 14 silverado 4.3l 1wt .i talked to bully and they told me which fuses to pull and i even disconnected my hids and still same thing.
If you go on to Bully Dog's website it will ask for you vehicle make and model. Once all that is typed in it will give you a list of products that will fit it. Check there first before ordering it from any other website such as summit racing or Amazon.
Jimmy Vanfleet You would have to check the application on bully dogs website or some other source. I believe that you could because it should work with any vehicle that has an OBD II port.
Ok cool so I won't have to remove the Sd card and plug it back in to the computer I can just do that directly with out plugging back in to the computer again ?
Southern Silverado once you go to those steps it'll let you select performance shift points and all that good stuff correct set the speedometer and tires
Arnold Guzman Yes those options are available to change. I would be cautious messing with the shift points for your transmission cause it might cause the life of the unit to shorten greatly. I recommend using the performance firmness for the shift but stock shift points. The tire size and speed limiter can be changed as well.
This video is an example of a tuner on a gas truck. I am not familiar with the Bully Dog set up for diesel but I want to warn you that blowing smoke and rolling coal is not good for the engine. A few times does not hurt but over time a toll is taken.
Roger Cruz I have heard of people having trouble with their dashboard and gauges with the newer model trucks when installing this tuner. It seems like a here and there issue and each person has a different gauge affected. What I would do is call Bully Dog and see what they say. If they've had this problem before they will know how to fix it.
Dynomax Ultra Flow 4inch Cat-back to a 5inch polished tip. Cruising down the road it sounds almost the same as stock until it bogs down. When the motor goes under a load it becomes this loud, deep roar that shakes the windows. I painted it with silver heat resistant paint so that way it would last longer. I've had it on the truck for almost a year and there is hardly any sign of rust. Thank you for looking at my video and if you have anymore questions I will be more than happy to answer them.
That is gonna be a nice set up bud. You may have to do research on the Dynomax Ultra flow series because I know that the pre 2007.5 heavy duty truck systems have a smaller muffler than mine. The ultra flow muffler in those systems is more along the lines of a glasspak style and they are ridiculously loud.
Camera Man From the factory most vehicles are equipped with at least one type of control module known as an ECM or ECU. Some have more like a TCM, BCM or FICM which each control a little portion of the vehicle. These control modules are just like computers and they have programming that tells them what to do. When a stock company tunes a vehicle they try to do the best all around tune for power, fuel mileage and longevity. Performance companies release tuners that change the stock programming to their own version that increases one area in particular, usually the power and fuel mileage area.
+Joe Salinas Yes it does help with increasing your MPG. If you drive a lot of highway miles the increase is a good amount, around 4-6. City driving does not really help a whole lot maybe 1-2 miles at the most. If you have anymore questions I recommend looking at the videos I posted that deals with the regular tune. Thank you for watching my video.
won't work because it's an 8 speed. they are not up to date.. funny they never specified that when they took my money. any out here for 2016 8 spd gmc???
It's amazing how the new trucks have an 8 speed automatic with them. The only tuner I would recommend you to check out is the EFI Live tune offered by precision tuning.com, or you could look at HP Tuners.
never buy the bullydog. junk! no support for a 2016 silverado, doesnt do everything it says its supposed to do. contact support and all they can say its not available yet.... sell something and it says compatible for my truck and it isnt?!?! get a diablo dont waste your money on junkdog
Yes the rev limiter can be changed. Mine from factory was 6000 and that just happens to be the redline as well. I bumped mine down to 5500 just so I know that it will be safe. One piece of advice I want to give you is be careful messing with the safety regulations from factory. I am not familiar with the vehicle you are putting this on, but if it is newer it will void all factory and dealer warranties. Hope this information helps and thank you for viewing my video!
Thanks to everyone for viewing the video and it's hard to believe that it reached over 50k views! I'm glad to see that people like my video and I will continue to post more just like it. Thanks once again for all your support!

Southern Silverado how does the “tow” setting in shift firmness work with the trucks tow mode enabled through the button on the shifter?
how well does the performance tune do and how much does it affect it?
The performance tune increased the horsepower more than what I expected. Warning in advance though, the premium tune uses a lot of fuel. I know on 2007.5 and newer trucks, I don't know about ones older than that, the option for AFM can be deleted and that is where the real power is gained. The regular tune keeps the idle close to 900-1000 for about 20-30 seconds and the premium tunes goes straight to stock as soon as it starts. I don't know if this is something that is just happening to me or not but I have noticed that the tuner changed the idle itself.
What model # tuner is this?
Hi.i have Silverado 2014 I need good tuner plz
hey guys, I've been having issues with my bully dog. Its taking forever to upload the program, almost two hours and nothing. Any help
Roberto Sweet What make and model is your vehicle? Is this the first and only Tuner that has ever been downloaded to your vehicle?
Southern Silverado
I have a 2016 chevy 5.3 Z71. This is the first time that I'm trying to install a programmer.
Roberto Sweet There was a gentleman that commented on here a while back about having the same problem with a 2016. If I were you, I would scroll down through the comments and find the discussion between me and him. It would help to message him and see what happened and also to call Bully Dog for help if the problem is not resolved.
Thank you. I'll call Bully dog tomorrow. I saw the post
How do you know if your chevy truck is considered a 2007 and 1/2?
I believe 2007 is the older body style cateye and 2007.5 is the newer body style
Do I need to take fuses out on a 2007 1500 z71 5.3
It's 2007 and a half
What's the link to order one
Southern Silverado damn 5 min later and a replay lol, so my next question is how hard are they to install?
Jacob Hau They are not difficult to install at all. The biggest thing is to make sure that you have a good computer so you can download tunes relatively fast and to update the tuner every so often. I also have videos of a few features that the tuner offers and the uninstall process to put the truck back to stock.
Southern Silverado sweet thanks man, your like the only person on youtube who actually answers questions
I installed my BD in my 2008 GMC YUKON DENALI and then got a check engine light after. Any ideas why?
victor urbina Did you delete AFM out of it or anything similar to that?
hows the yukon? just got the tuner for mine.
Was there an option for e85 ?
From my understanding, the tunes themselves are based off of the base fuels for the engine. This means that if the truck is made to run e85 from the factory, there will be a tuning option for that. My truck was not e85 compatible. To also be honest, e85 is not really a thing in my region of the country. We still run normal grades of gasoline that range from 87-93 and diesel that runs from 40-50 cetane.
Hello I have the same tuner and it keeps telling me to turn the key off and on over and over
What year and model is the vehicle that you are trying to install the tuner on?
It is doing the same thing to me. I have a 14 silverado 4.3l 1wt .i talked to bully and they told me which fuses to pull and i even disconnected my hids and still same thing.
Southern Silverado what do u think
Does it have an option for E85?
Michael Hernandez I do not believe that there is an option to run e85 unless the truck is capable of running it from the factory.
Will that work on a B.M.W X.5 4 8i?
If you go on to Bully Dog's website it will ask for you vehicle make and model. Once all that is typed in it will give you a list of products that will fit it. Check there first before ordering it from any other website such as summit racing or Amazon.
Can you use a tuner like yours on a 1998 chevy pu.
Jimmy Vanfleet You would have to check the application on bully dogs website or some other source. I believe that you could because it should work with any vehicle that has an OBD II port.
Southern Silverado thanks
Hey man I got a question
xTANKxZEROx Yes sir what might that be?
So if I want to change from premium to regular do I just go to the instal download and then to modify tune? My unit is up to date
Arnold Guzman Yes sir that is all you have to do and it will do the download.
Ok cool so I won't have to remove the Sd card and plug it back in to the computer I can just do that directly with out plugging back in to the computer again ?
Arnold Guzman Yes. Just go through the download process and instead of hitting premium just select regular, and that'll do it for ya.
Can I smoke on performance tune??
This video is an example of a tuner on a gas truck. I am not familiar with the Bully Dog set up for diesel but I want to warn you that blowing smoke and rolling coal is not good for the engine. A few times does not hurt but over time a toll is taken.
ok thx :) Nice vid tho
How much can it improve mpg? I might be getting a F-350 6.8 V10 and it gets around 13 highway. How much could it bring it up?
a 2012 gmc sierra with 5.3
Roger Cruz I have heard of people having trouble with their dashboard and gauges with the newer model trucks when installing this tuner. It seems like a here and there issue and each person has a different gauge affected. What I would do is call Bully Dog and see what they say. If they've had this problem before they will know how to fix it.
Southern Silverado. thank you. for. all the help
Hey what kind of exaust system do you have
Dynomax Ultra Flow 4inch Cat-back to a 5inch polished tip.
+Southern Silverado Alright bro thanks, you just made me want to buy both the tuner and the exaust system
Haha well I believe that both of the systems are nice. What year and model truck are you planning on putting these on?
+Southern Silverado 05 GMC sierra 1500 5.3l v8
That is gonna be a nice set up bud. You may have to do research on the Dynomax Ultra flow series because I know that the pre 2007.5 heavy duty truck systems have a smaller muffler than mine. The ultra flow muffler in those systems is more along the lines of a glasspak style and they are ridiculously loud.
Mine didn't give me no option like yours
I need help I have a 5.3
The tuner did not give you any options? When started the download sequence what did the tuner say?
+Southern Silverado yeah it didn't give me any transmission option
What year is your truck? Some of the newer trucks do not with with certain options on the tuners.
+Southern Silverado 2010
I did mine know my fuel gauge not reading right.
Roger Cruz What year is your vehicle?
How does a software change an engine? There is no logical way
Stock vehicle aren’t really built to sustain that kind of signaling.
Performance companies release tuners that change the stock programming to their own version that increases one area in particular, usually the power and fuel mileage area.
looking into getting one of these for my 2008 silverado, does this really help in MPG
Stopped watching after you decided to leave the afm on. That's a main reason to buy a tuner is to disable that shit
Yeah it will mess up you vehicle but press agree
never buy the bullydog. junk! no support for a 2016 silverado, doesnt do everything it says its supposed to do. contact support and all they can say its not available yet.... sell something and it says compatible for my truck and it isnt?!?! get a diablo dont waste your money on junkdog
Can you raise and low the rev limiter ?
Yes the rev limiter can be changed. Mine from factory was 6000 and that just happens to be the redline as well. I bumped mine down to 5500 just so I know that it will be safe. One piece of advice I want to give you is be careful messing with the safety regulations from factory. I am not familiar with the vehicle you are putting this on, but if it is newer it will void all factory and dealer warranties. Hope this information helps and thank you for viewing my video!
Can i use it on 4.3L ecotech3?
Will it work on my 2015 sierra ?
Nidgehogg dragon Yes sir it should. But it probably wouldn’t hurt to call and see if it will.
