    Maddux's Game 1 was one of the most dominant, least remembered starts in postseason history: CG, 2 H, 0 ER, 4 K against a team with a .694 W%, with 8 .300 hitters. But then, of course it's forgotten. What would a Maddux game be without people forgetting how incredible he was?

    • @lex24517
      @lex24517 Před rokem

      Maddox was a beast on the mound he could also hit you don't see that any more hell Steve Avery was hitting Homer's in 1995. I just can't believe right now everytime we catch the Mets tie them this year they catch up we were tied yesterday now the Mets lead by .5 games Braves better get it together for that repeat Worldseries and I hope we have to smash the Dodgers again only this time we will show why you don't turn on your team after a championship sweep them in 4 and head to the Worldseries #ChopHouse and leave the Braves name alone nothing wrong with being Brave and personally I'd be pissed if I was native American and they keep taking my teams away this is a prime example this series in this vid. the Indians are no more and for what so woke rich white people feel good about it when most all Native Americans don't mind having teams for the ones I know they're more pissed about being excluded. NFL Redskins Fans who are native Americans are pissed about that also

      It was so amazingly frustrating to watch as a Cleveland fan. I'd actually moved to Cleveland from Chicago, and I dreaded watching Maddux pitching against Cleveland.

      I think Greg Maddux is the greatest picture of the modern generation because he studied hitters and mastered his craft of getting batters out. He did not over exert himself by 100+ mph rather he knew tendencies to take advantage of the hitters weakness. The way he pitched should be studied for generations to come.

      Maddux's performance in game 2 of the 1996 World Series was insane also. Dude was just a stud.

      Agree with that - will never forget seeing this ferocious Indians lineup reduced to tapping weak ground balls around the infield all night.

    A few random and fun notes:
    1.) Carlos Baerga recorded the final out in 3 of his team's 4 losses.
    2.) With the exception of 97 and 99, Fox has broadcast every WS game since.
    3.) The win gave the Braves the distinction of being the first team to win in three cities (Boston 1914, Milwaukee 1957).
    4.) Dave Justice was booed during Game 6 until his go-ahead HR due to comments about the lack of enthusiasm by fans compared to Cleveland.
    5.) Javy Lopez' pick off of rookie Manny Ramirez was nominated for the ESPY Play of the Year 1996.
    6.) The Indians won 100 games in a 144 game season. Their .694 W% was the highest by a team who lost the WS since...the 1954 Indians (.721)
    7.) The Indians had 8 .300 hitters in their starting lineup.
    8.) The Braves held the vaunted Indians to .179 during the series.
    9.) Hall of Famers:
    *Atlanta: 5: Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, C. Jones (edited in), Cox (Mgr)
    *Cleveland: 2: Murray, Thome (with 4 more borderline: Lofton, Ramirez, Vizquel and Hershiser), plus Winfield actually played for them but did not make the WS roster.
    10.) Steve Avery, the only member of Atlanta's starting rotation not in the Hall of Fame, won Game 4 in relief.
    11.) 5 of 6 games were decided by one run (Braves +6 Total runs)
    12.) Of Cleveland's 100 wins 48 come from behind wins, 27 walk offs, and they won their division by 30 games, and have the 12th highest WP% in history as of 2021.
    13. This remains the highest rated WS since the strike of 1994 (Nielsen 19.5).

      @KinkESizemore Před 2 lety +1

    • @lex24517
      @lex24517 Před rokem +1

      Yeah Avery was bad ass though I'm surprised he's not in the Hall of fame he belongs hell of a lot better than a lot of them in the Hall. Plus I think 4 years ago Chipper Jones was inducted into the hall of fame. Those are some great statistics you gave us now we just got to hope we can bring a third to Atlanta October November will come and go before we know it I for one would like to see another Worldseries now and not have to wait 26 years again.

  • @AJ42K
    @AJ42K Před 11 měsíci +3

    The first of two. I was 7 years old watching this World Series. Two Native American teams. Indians vs. Braves. My favorite player at the time was Fred McGriff (Crime Dog) who is finally in the Hall of Fame. Fred McGriff started the huge statement & was the guy who made me a Braves fan with TBS in 1993. David Justice ended it despite everyone mad for a valid reason. Luckily Justice was served & he saved the Braves with my favorite pitcher Tom Glavine. When it ended I was bouncing on the walls. It was a Saturday night. Dad wanted me to go to bed. My mom said just let him, he will tire out. Oh I did later in the night but was knocked out for 12 hours as a kid. You don't see that anymore for anyone 7 years old.
    Fun Fact: I met Glavine in 2019 at the CWS in Omaha. Met Smoltz in 2013 at the CWS in Omaha as well as Kenny Lofton in 2016 and yes at the CWS & got autographs from each of them those years.

      @americankulak2294 Před 2 lety +13

      No they didn't. In fact, they actually had +5 net runs in that series, and lost four games by a combined 6 runs. You want to say they lost, that's fine, but losing in the 10th inning of Game 7 (all because of a key baserunning mistake) is hardly an ass-kicking. Frankly, with all the shit we learned about the Twins after the fact, you could say it was stolen from them. Let me refresh:
      1. Recall how the Twins artificially piped noise into the dome at key moments?
      2. Or Kent Hrbeck's fat ass throwing Ron Gant off first base?
      3. Or the fact that Kirby Puckett (and his famed "Jose Canseco milk shakes") was likely one of the steroid pioneers?
      Again, it was one of the greatest series in history, and the Twins won it fairly. But don't be counterfactual.
