    Well done, you were a bit frustrated at first. But persevered. Love the sound of your 8/9 Hardy Cascapedia.
    I have the same reel, to hear it sing on a hot fish is wonderful.

    Rob - I’m so enjoying all of your videos. This is one of my favorites. The trials and tribulations of life on the water are experienced by us all. Love the honesty and commentary. Walking in excited and hopeful and then losing both flies you presented to the camera. Which I do appreciate seeing what you are swinging - quickly becoming a favorite channel. Thanks for taking the time
    Happy hunting

    Loving the gallows humour. " ive caught the bottom for the 17 millionth time 😂" Successful anglers/fishers like your good self have the resilience borne out of the wisdom of bitter experience to persevere and not let the cluster of obstacles ( snap off, running line issues, snapping off a fish and a seal) prevent you from sticking with it. Which explains why you caught that nice fish. Many pack in and go home after so many big challenges on an ice cold morning. I hope youngsters watching learn from it. Don't give up. It's often literally the last cast or refusing to be beaten that gets rewarded later on the same day. Be resilient be stubborn stay calm and use your brain and experience and have an inner self belief that you're doing things right. Superb video again. And how good did the van made ground coffee taste after that fish.

      Glad you enjoyed the video, determined I definitely am but I'm not sure about successful! My days fished to fish caught ratio would make anyone wince. I think any occasional success I might have comes down to the statistical probability that if you make 17 million casts then you are bound to hook a fish eventually.

    I’m so glad that you don’t post your videos during the season as we can enjoy your fishing trips during the close season / winter always an enjoyable watch

    That running line looks a nightmare. I have used OPST Lazar Line for years with no issues, though i don’t gather and hold the line like you do. I let it just dangle, or i use my Orvis stripping basket. I enjoy your videos very much.

    • @abakerslife
      @abakerslife  Před 4 měsíci +1

      The running line was great for a while but I think the problem arose because of figure of eight retrieves.
      I personally find that if allow the running line to dangle in the water the current takes it away downstream and the force of the water takes energy away from the cast. I've switched back to using a line with an integrated running section for this season and am finding it much more pleasant.
      Glad you enjoy the videos.

    Try letting a load of line out so it pulls yer snagged flies from below. It sometimes works!

    Nice to see you into a fish after a frustrating session. I'm just back from a couple of nights in a cottage at Yair. It's whetted my appetite for a session on the upper Tweed. I see you've fished Yair. Any good?

    • @abakerslife
      @abakerslife  Před 6 měsíci

      It's as good a beat as any other around there but to be perfectly honest it wasn't entirely my cup of tea. It was one of those very formal types of gigs where you don't get to start fishing till 9.30 and then you have to stop for an hour at lunch and then basically by 4.30 the day is over.

    • @brianpeutherer2666
      @brianpeutherer2666 Před 6 měsíci

      @@abakerslife Ah. Doesn't sound like my cup of tea either,but then I guess you'll get a lot of that on the Tweed. It also looked a bit big still for my casting ability (yours is looking good these days!)
      Perhaps I should look even further up....

    • @abakerslife
      @abakerslife  Před 6 měsíci

      My casting is nothing special I just edit out all the worst ones. When I was there the water was up 3 feet so it would have looked huge. In general the upper Tweed is manageable. Traquair is a good beat to fish up there- video to come at some point.

    Congratulations and well done ! The situation re seals is bloody ridiculous; I've seen a photo of the sandbanks on the Tyne estuary at low water black with seals sunning and waiting the upcoming runs. These things will eat everything-no natural predators; here in North Wales mackerel fishing for the few there are is becoming a waste of time as they simply strip the hooks. In Scotland deer can now be shot pretty much out of hand but seals-oh no; they're pretty... We should refuse to pay the ridiculous rod-licence to the EA and 'Natural Resources Wales' until they cull them. Severely. What does C and R preserve? Maybe a couple of hundred; how many does one seal eat in a day ? Rant over. Sorry.
    Couldn't help likening your running line tangles to Candy Floss we had as kids; we have all been there, I think.

    • @abakerslife
      @abakerslife  Před 6 měsíci

      I suppose seals have to eat too and if they are being forced so far inland we should be asking the question as to why?
      I am yet to find the answer regarding running line..that stuff was great to begin with and positively flew off the reel until well it didn't...!

    Binging your videos! I am booked on the Tay on the 20th of January and cannot wait to go chase springers for the first time! I had three salmon in 2023 and a huge part of that was down to your salmon safari video on the findhorn. Even getting the wife into the sport! Tight lines for 24!
    P.s. you were using a mono running line in one of your vids. Pink stuff. What was it?
