Why exactly was MK4 hated, it was the last of the speedy gameplay until MK9. Also people's perception of it now are waay different than they were back then.
I never understood it either. I think the roster change had a part in it. Otherwise, I think MK4 is a good game as it is (even without resorting to MK Gold, whose extra content is cool, but is plagued with laziness and glitchiness overall) and may even be my favorite MK of all time, although the original trilogy is just as good imo.
