They used to use burned cork as face paint in world war two as well
I have used wet blackboard chalk, works a treat! Different colours.
Clay also works great used it as a kid playing in the river but its more a red hue to it works better at night looks black at night
can be easily dug up found in most areas and along the rivers on the banks at places.

Back in the 90's we were issued camo sticks (UK) it came like a giant pushup lipstick, half brown/ half green in went on np's but was a bugger to wash off.
The benefit of the coal being easy to wash off is also a point against it, sneaking around being "stealthy" in a high tension situation you're going to sweat and that will wash the coal off when you don't need/want it too.

pretty sure yes. They have browning, would be sad to produce them but can't own them.
Also, when something happen Police come within minutes. Really fast and efficient
