  • Deputy SNP leader John Swinney believed he 'touched a very raw nerve' when he quoted remarks made by Labour Party leader, Keir Starmer, during a debate at First Minister's Questions over the state of NHS Scotland.
Scottish Labour leader, Anas Sarwar, criticized the SNP's 'failure to workforce plan' when he was quoted Sir Keir's remarks of 'I think we are recruiting too many people from overseas in, for example, the health service.'

The London Labour branch office manager in Scotland Anas Sarwar boss Kier Starmer wants to attract the Brexit supporting Tory voting ex Labour voters in the north of England with his rhetoric about foreign people working in the health service.
Many skilled European NHS workers went back to their own countries after Brexit because they didn't feel welcomed.
Now there is a problem with vacancies in the NHS and Starmer said not to attract the skilled European health service workers back to fill the vacancies. Starmer idea to solve the current problem in the NHS is to train new people that will take years to train which will not help with the problems now.

As a medical student I can tell you that there are actually more medical school graduates than the number of jobs, and with each rung up the career path the number of jobs decreases - we're bleeding doctors not only because there's a terrible work-life balance in the UK (and toxic grind-for-free culture that's implemented from high up), but because the govt. are just not funding enough jobs and expansion of the NHS to accommodate the doctors from the UK or abroad (because they're actually trying to dismantle the NHS, not expand it to purpose).
Starmer's comments the other day about migrant workers was terrible though, and even though I want the Tories out, Starmer has gone massively down in my estimations and support.

He, I imagine intentionally, said "we're recruiting too many workers from overseas". *Maybe*, the practical effects of any resultant policy is the same, but that framing, and the focus not on the things we can do in this country as a positive, but on the proportion of migrant workers as a negative, is divisive and racialised.
I shouldn't have to *hope* that he only made those comments to encourage racists and Little Englanders to vote Labour, and *hope* that he doesn't genuinely think that way. It's not acceptable.

Labour Welsh First Minister Mark Drakeford said that Tory austerity, bad handling of the economy and high inflation has cut the Welsh budget.
English councils have said that their budgets have been cut by Westminster and because of high inflation their budgets buy less.
The Westminster Tory ministers said that the pandemic has caused a backlog of people waiting for treatment.
There are 7 million people waiting for treatment by the English NHS in England.
It's not just the Scottish government that has been saying that the Westminster Tories have been bad for public services with the Osborne Tory austerity from 2010 onwards.
The Bank of England is meant to keep inflation down at 2 % but inflation is now high at 10.1% and predicted to go higher. The Scottish budget was agreed with Westminster last December when Inflation was a lot lower
Because of high inflation and increased costs of energy, wages and procurement etc. The Scottish governments budget will buy £1.7 billion less.
A lot of skilled European health services workers didn't feel welcomed after Brexit and left the NHS and returned to their own countries.
