    I m moving to Ghana if the lights go out ,I’m going to light a candle and be in piece, until the come back on, because it’s better that being in America. People here are being gun down everywhere by police because they can you can’t ride or sit in your car for being harassed by police, food is being poisoned, we being sprayed with poison. Everything that America offers comes with consequences. There are teachers here who should not be teaching blacks, because they work hard at making children think that they can’t do the work or average. Leaving for a piece of mind, and better life.

    Ghana needs our support. People should consider moving there with a mindset to build and develop. All the complaints being made, though valid, are the same complaints that were once common when the describing the UK. But hard work and determination brought about the current state. Ghana has massive potential. Don't go there expecting to be fed, go to develop and help others. It has only being independent from colonial rule since the 1960s. Give the nation time. We can do it! We have to start somewhere.

    I happened upon this interview by accident and, man was I impressed by the answers to the questions that were posed to this most intelligent Lady. Her view of the problems that face the women of Ghana was so vivid and honest that I had to go back and look at the interview again. I have a very good friend and her sister who live in Ghana and suffer from the request for Sexual favors when they are out looking for work just to sustain themselves because the men hold most of the money and the power that money brings. It is a damn shame that the Govt. do not pay more attention to what is going on right in front of them. Is it because the majority of the Govt. are Men?

Shes talking about fundamental needs. When you don't provide these things as a government you hurt self and you hurt your people. And other countries see you. You must help your people Ghana before you can be seen as an important player. Consistency is key. To the Ghanaians in the diaspora, let us consider returning to the motherland. Ghana really really needs a change. We are far from being the gateway to West Africa. Let us not kid ourselves, other African countries like Kenya, Botswana and Namibia (just to mention a few) are on the run and making the changes they want to see. Let us rise up before we get into the shock of being left behind completely.

    Are we really laid back as Ghanaians? That's a strong misconception about us as a people, held by many a people I have come across, including a cross-section of us, like you, Nana Darkoa. We are rather tolerant and very calculative of the consequences of our actions. I guess we pass for being laid back because we are not abysmally aggressive as a people. As individuals, I'd rather say we prefer 'jaw-jaw' to 'war-war'. Notwithstanding, I dare say we are sitting on a time-bomb, because of the gross irresponsibility of our leaders. The cup is gradually becoming full. The inate Ghanaian spirit we are imbued with is being provoked, and soon there is likely to be a very positive wave of passive aggression against the leadership of our country.

    • @NanaDarkoaSekyiamah
      @NanaDarkoaSekyiamah Před 9 lety +1

      Hey Iloebsa, thanks for commenting. In my view we are more laid back than tolerant. I agree that we are not abysmally aggressive as a people and I think that is a good thing. I don't even feel we jaw jaw that much because I think if we were really having constructive dialogue we would be taking on board some of the feedback and somehow moving forward...I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts

    • @lloebsa
      @lloebsa Před 9 lety +3

      Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah
      Hello Nana Darkoa! Your claim is quite bold and debatable. Ghanaians certainly, and generally do not fit into the laid-back category. To say we do not agitate and hold our leaders accountable is not wholly the case. Again, one will be making a grave error in asserting such, granted that we are a population of diverse geo-cultural demarcations. Why do you think other countries within the sub-region think Ghanaians are 'too known' (pidgin for 'assertiveness')? Remember we were the first to agitate and obtain our Independence in the sub-region. We were also the first to engage in legitimatizing illegal overthrows of elected governments i.e. coup d'etats.
      Having lived all my formative days in Ghana, through my respective stages of schooling to the University (UG, Legon, and a VANDAL for that matter); through my postgraduate studies and stay abroad, I shall always disagree with people who perceive us, Ghanaians to be laid-back. You're right if you say, many of us are very swift to saying 'Fa ma Nyame' ( Asante- Twi dialect which literally translates 'leave it to God'). However, most of those who say this do it worriedly and emotionally because they do not have any other better ways of resolving whatever issues warrant/ed such sayings. I can't vouch for recent Primary and Secondary educations, but I do recall the spate of student demonstrations during my O'level and A'level days in the 80s through to the early 90s in protest of oppressive dispositions of school authorities of our days. Need I make mention of historic pre-colonial agitations, and the more recent disputes and agitations among our various traditonal settings, notable among which led to the fate of the late Ya Na.
      I have had the opportunity of traveling across our neighbouring countries, and I can attest to the fact that immigration officers at the various border posts I have been occasioned to go through feel Ghanaians are 'too known'. At best I dare say we have certain pedigree when it comes to civilility in demanding our rights, which many across the sub-region have difficulities in dealing with when they accost us at their border posts. In addition, I think it is the little civil liberties that most of our neighbours perceive we enjoy as a people, and also wish they had, when it comes to the rule of law, eventhough we take what we have for granted, that make them admire us. You may be right by wishing we are compared to the best in the world, but there is always going to be those we are better than as a means of respite and relief from untoward and wanton stress of striving to be among the best.
      A lengthy comment this time around. Thanks for appreciating my comments.

    Great post! There is definitely a need for a change in attitude, which is a challenge, because it appears people complain about corruption until they get in power (then they conveniently forget to do something about it as they become preoccupied with how to ensure they amass wealth for the benefit of their family and loved ones, ONLY!). Social Services Dept. is merely an office; I can’t even imagine a Food Bank or Women’s Shelter in Accra (it will be run on a who-you-know basis lol; I don’t think the extended family system is compatible with Social Services). Sadly, children are begging on the street when they should be in the classroom. People are in Accra looking for non-existent job opportunities because there are no economic activities in rural areas/small towns (unlike in a developed country). Moreover, some people only know what is as “normal” and cannot even conceive a system that is better than what they consider as “normal”. Some of us have had the benefit of having lived in different environments, and are therefore able to compare a system that works to a system that is clearly not working. The challenge is to persuade others to envisage something better than the “normal” and be willing to work hard towards a better Ghana (the work ethic in Ghana, in some cases, is terrible).

    Just stay strong Ghana you have came so far and don't compare yourselves to the West or any other countries. The young and Ghanans abroad must help keep each other and become inovative. Give those Presidents a dead line to so produce on their pre Presidental promises or face impeachment.

      Real is Rare to fuck the population literally and figuratively and fuck the poverty out of the country. The Chinese know they must expand too many people they are migrating throughout the world. Besides the Chinese alone reduced global poverty by a huge margin

They need sometime to develop.. all the money are in America and Britain, we build upon what we have but what do we have now apart from the rich minerals of which the Europeans are still even key on.

    seems some of these politicians bring nothing to the table, in terms of experience, professional standards and integrity. I think the need experience in public service, traveling and living abroad to get an accurate understanding of what is expected of them. people of certain ancestry want to come home and build and be at peace. lack of power is unsatifactory, for the individual as well as the businesses. Public projects infrastructural developement eg.
    hydroelectric, wind, solar, or hydrothermic electrical technologies to improve the power. generation through direct investments or partnerships.

    i think this is true but GHana and among other african countries are young,
    remember its took centuries for america to improve and europe and so far the system abroad is not perfect . africa is young and we are the generation that is going to change things and reclaim our position . african politics is ruled by 1 world leaders. look at the economy the politic around african country with aid and etc. but this woman is generalising .

    Feminism is a western academic
    Construct. The political game is the same all over the world. Both have an influence on Ghanaian social structure and politics.
    sexual abuse of children is a major issue in western countries. Sexual violence is a fear all over the world.
    Is it really statistically better say I'm the UK or USA.
    I doubt it.
