I miss them being in downtown Houston. They had to move out of downtown due to gentrification which made taxes too high. The food is sooooo good. I remember when they were filming Jason’s Lyric at this restaurant.

My Grandma took me to "This Is It" and I ate like a little pig. 😄 They also had this restaurant called "Wyatt's Cafeteria" off a street called "O.S.T" come Sundays after church, the women would still have they white usher board uniforms on cooking & serving. Born and raised in Houston,TX. "This Is It" restaurant to my knowledge was originally located in 4th Ward off of West Dallas on the outskirts of Downtown. Used to eat there a lot as well as take out for my mom back in the 60 's. since we live in the area. Then they moved off of West Grey across from the Mercedes Benz Car lot believe. After that lost sight of them until I ran across this video. Glad to know they're still in business. I'm gonna have to revisit the restaurant again in the 3rd ward for the food and the memories. 💗

isn't just what you do but what you don't do. Not just what you did but how you did it. Not just what you said but how you said it. Love is so simple yet the simple make it so hard. Love Is full of knowledge yet even the smart don't get it. Love doesn't cost a fortune yet fortunes are spent trying to gain it. Love does demand of you yet you are not willing to sacrifice for it. Those who only seek what love can give and do for them, do nothing for love and others and in such selfish pursuit, in turn rob themselves of love's best gift. Make this year the year you seek to sow love and not just reap it. Be love and not just think it. Do love and not just say it. Talk love and just don't fake it. Seek love and just don't chase it. Embrace it but don't enslave it, share it but don't dare boast in it. Enjoy it but don't abuse it. Free it and watch it come back. Invest in it and watch it pay back. Wash your life in it, light your darkness with it, eat your food with it conduct your business with it and above all else Serve God in it. For whatever love is and is not, it's all of, for and From Him. He is LOVE! "

The definition of soul food does have it's own traditional seasonings and methods of preparations. It also is defined by certain meats are paired with their companion side dishes. Soul food has it's own flavor profile traditional to the American south. Although many soul food dishes are also prepared in white households, soul food has slightly different seasonings which makes it distinctly "soul food." Fried chicken was invented in West Africa. Although other cultures worldwide "fried" chicken, the use of "battered and fried" came from West Africa.

No, fried chicken did not originate in West Africa. Eating fowl or any kind of bird in Africa was historically frowned upon. Goats, sheep, and to a lesser degree cattle were traditionally the staple meat in sub-Saharan Africa. However, to be historically accurate, there were a minority of isolated tribes in Africa who ate fowl and baboons- some tribes in tropical Africa, mainly in the Congo, still eat primates, but remember that those African tribes are a tiny minority and geographically isolated from most Africans. In addition, most African-Americans did not originate from the tropical rainforests that are deep within the African continent. Most African-Americans trace their roots to West Africa, especially the coastal regions. They came from tribes like the Yoruba, Igbo, and Fon. As an African, I can emphatically tell you that my forefathers loathed eating birds, and it was considered an insult to pay homage to the tribal chief and offer him a chicken as a gift. African chiefs expected goats and sheep from their subjects, not birds. The history of fried chicken in the American South is a mixture of Africans, who were deprived of owning goats and sheep, bringing the knowledge of herbs and spices from Africa and combining it with deep frying that Africans learned from rural whites- those Southern whites were exclusively Scots-Irish or Ulster Scots. Consult a history book and ask Africans to verify what I'm saying. That being said- I love fried chicken, but I don't remember my father ever being enthusiastic about eating fried birds. However, when goat and lamb were served, he would literally recite tribal poems that praise goat and lamb! Food culture has changed drastically everywhere, and Africa is no exception. However, you can still find extremely old Africans that look upon eating birds as a sign of degradation and ignominy.
