  • Have you ever noticed that every pilot and flight staff uses the exact same carry-on?
Okay, maybe not every pilot, but enough to where you can’t stop noticing it once you start paying attention
So i found out what they use the only way i knew how: i asked
And they all said a brand you’ve probably never heard of: LuggageWorks

Wow, this vid blew up! Was a year in the works so it means a lot. Answering some common questions below:
    1. It’s the LW Stealth 22”
    2. As I say in the video, I do *not* recommend people buy this unless you're a pilot, flight crew, or daily traveler.
👉 link to a carry-on I *do* recommend: type jo.my/carryon into your web browser
    3. No, this isn’t an ad. I bought this myself in March 2022 after doing my own research, I’ve had no contact w/ LW or any of their affiliates, and am not and have not received compensated in any way. They never even replied to my emails when i reached out for comment 😭 My account in general is impressively unprofitable since I haven't accepted a collab in about 18 months, but being able to say what I want, when I want, however I want is priceless to me.
    4. No, I don't own this own company nor do I do any dropshipping at all. Neither of them appeal to me and both of those professions make more money than what I do. Also I wasn't born yet when LW was founded.
    5. I'm a one-man team, so if you liked this video, every 'LIKE' and SUBSCRIBE will always mean a ton to me. 💙

I was a flight attendant and my boyfriend is a captain. The luggage they use is good, but Briggs and Riley is better. Boyfriend switched over 2 years ago and swears by them. No J hook but they do have a strap that does the same thing. A lot more light weight and there is a warranty so you can have it fixed for free!
Also, interestingly enough but luggage works wasn’t the standard issue for my company. It was travel pro (don’t buy lmao) but literally all the pilots knew those bags were trash and would buy luggage works.

I’ve had mine for about 13 years as a pilot using it roughly 4 days a week. It’s a tank and has taken a beating. Dragged through snow to the bus stop in chicago for a decade, had to have the bottom cast rebuilt twice because sidewalk salt/chemicals caused the wheel axles to eventually fuse to the wheel bearings to the point where they weren’t removable. The side rails have bowed over years as most do. Black paint is chipping away from the metal back plate and rails from slamming it up stairs. 3 years of commuting to various cities as well. At the regionals it was gate checked for every deadhead and was at the mercy of rampers where I would occasionally lose zippers or clips. It looks worn and I regularly get an “omg how long have you had that bag” reaction from other aviation employees and co workers but considering I’ve been living out of it for over a decade and still on my new hire bag shows how impressive of a bag it is. Most FAs use travelpro, getting out of crew vans I’ve seen numerous FAs with broken bag handles, struggling to extend or retract them or one of the handle rails is completely gone. They just seem like cheap plastic bags but probably more sturdy than your casual passenger bag but can’t hold a candle to the durability of LW. If I used a regular travel bag I have no doubt I’d be on at least my 5th bag by now, this thing is solid.

So they are the first to come off the plane along with any pets or mobility aids like wheelchairs. They usually always go in pit 1 forward cargo pits The only thing that separates it’s from passengers bags is a cargo net. You couldn’t pass off a passenger bag as crew bag as crew bags have special tags And it won’t get treated better. Sorting belts use hundreds of pounds of pressure to sort bags in the piers. It needs that much force cause everyone has heavy bags upwards of 100lbs. That’s how most bags get damaged. People buy plastic luggage and it breaks on the sorting belts. I’ve even seen people loads their electronics on these cheap plastic luggage and by the time it gets to piers from ticket counter the wheels are already snapped off and there’s a big crack on the side

Flight attendant here! We use luggage works and Travel Pro for a few additional reasons as well.
    1. Most airlines require us to have solid black luggage, and some require no hard shell suitcases with 4 wheels. Also, when we work, we don't check our bags into cargo, they go in the cabin in the overhead bins. The only time we might have to gate check our bags is if we are "deadheading" which is basically us flying as a passenger to reposition for our next working flight.
    2. The reason we don't use hard shell suitcases with 4 wheels is because some planes (like the CRJ 200) have overhead bins that are too small for those.
    3. Some airlines give us allotment for new uniform pieces/bags. So usually the lugagge brands are LW or Travelpro.
    4. And lastly, we use LW and Travelpro because they have a built in clip at the top to connect the J hook which most other brands do not have. We need these J hooks to hold those additional smaller bags aka (crew coolers) which usually hold our next 4-5 day's worth of food. Hope that helps explain a bit more!
And yes, most pilots use the metal frame ones in the video and most flight attendants use the Travelpro rollaboard. If you use either, flight crew will probably think you're one of us haha. They are both good brands, they may be expensive but they are pretty durable so it's worth it.

Here are the four reasons many of the pilots I work with use either a Briggs & Riley, a StrongBags, or a TravelPro Crew5 instead of the LuggageWorks bag:
    1. LW bags weigh twice as much as the other options
    2. LW bags cost far more than the other options (except Briggs & Riley, which costs even more than LW!)
    3. B&R, StrongBags, and TravelPro are all very durable, and have good warranty & repair options.
    4. B&R and TravelPro come in a 4 wheeled version, which is very handy and which some of us prefer.

Yup. I was issued a LuggageWorks. Opted for the steel frame. It isn’t as large as what my non airline friends carry, but I can fit a weeks worth of gear in it. The briefcase that hooks into the J hook is a must. It fits perfectly next to my seat and holds plenty of snacks, electronics, and other creature comforts.
The durability is what really sells it. The average consumer isn’t going to be on HUNDREDS of flights per year. With that much use, you need something that can be hit by a truck… Because it might happen.
Even with all the durability, we get new ones every 4 years.
The zipper came off my rear pouch. The ID holder is ripped off. Can’t wait for my new one in a few months.
That being said, it still rolls beautifully and none of my stuff has been damaged inside it.
Added perk is that no passengers ever mistake your bag for theirs.
PS: I definitely know the guy with the blue carabiner clip
