Kitchen renovation as a beginner (painful but worth it✨)

- Gutting and renovating the whole kitchen. It was scary at first, but I guess it’s not that difficult in the end, just sooooo messy😓
What do you think about the result? And more importantly how should I decorate it?

Hey I love your content - just a friendly fyi the title should be 'beginner' ❤
the cat gets fan mail ?!? ;-)
0:22 You are his human. =^_^=
I wonder if the neighbor who owns the kitty ever watch your videos and sees their cat hanging out lol
She said in this video, "The cat came with the house," so I am now wondering if the former owner of the house left the cat? 🐈
@@m.maclellan7147the cat belongs to a neighbor, but wanders to multiple neighbors homes at will.
@@m.maclellan7147 I really don't think so, in previous videos she explained the cat has owners who live nearby and he just likes to wander around and liked to hang around the house Ariel owns now even before Ariel moved there :)
My neighbour's dog is at my place a lot. I take her for walks and she usually stays with me 3 days a week, and sometimes for overnight stays if her peeps are away. I love her, and apparently, she thinks I'm ok, too😊
@@m.maclellan7147 In another video she said it was the neighbor's cat. She was just kind of joking about it coming with the house.
You almost have enough corkscrews to use them as drawer handles...
Beautiful work!
What a great idea!
"It's not hard; it's just annoying" is truly the motto of construction. Put it on a shirt.
It's so funny that you keep saying that the cat is not your cat, but for the way he behaves, he definitely feels that he's the actual owner of the house and he's just letting you guys live in it. Cats are funny that way (I know, because that's how mine behave).
And about the kitchen, oi good job!!! I always wanted to do the same in my house, but when the time came my father didn't let me, and hired people. So, I live through you for now. Thanks.
Behind the sink is called a back splash in the US, but a splash back in the UK IDK what it is in France. I've never seen it applied with the bottom row angled like that! I love it! It keeps any wayward water from puddling on the countertop or rotting the caulk! Your kitchen looks professionally installed, Great first attempt❤!!! 👍
I've never seen it either! I hope it withstands time but I adore the color
I’m Interested knowing rational for tilt of tile. Agree on tile color. Hey if tape works on door/drawer to open until find/do something who cares still functional.
"Construction is just arts and crafts, but bigger." I love this!
I currently have a contractor tiling my bathroom so I shall now consider him an artist.
I checked with my contractor, and he likes the term "artisan." However, such term puts him in a higher tip bracket when the job is finished.
Cyd in the USA. Your idea of using the doorway as a multifunctional area is genius. Bookshelf...check. Cocktail bar...check. Coffee bar...check.
It is actually really common in Europe
My partner prefers tile for the cooling effect, but I like the look of wood....guess what our house is gonna have.
Also, its definitely a backsplash. A credenza is a sidetable thing, usually in the dining room.
You said something about the cat getting fan art, not you, and I immediately thought of a little something (drawing, etc) with a bright red ponytail and a beret (sorry for the stereotype in my brain, heh😅)
I hope this little bit of liking and commenting helps! I love watching your art, in whatever form it appears ❤
I usually laugh during your videos and really appreciate your humor. For some reason, this video has got me laughing more than normal. The forbidden stuff got me. 😂
same here , brilliant !
The floor tiles that look like wood planks? Brilliant! Excellent work!! 🥐🥐🥐
You did such a good job with the forbidden creme fraiche! Never would've guessed that your old door frame was a wall-eating monster.
In America the tiles on the wall behind the counters are called a backsplash. A credenza is a piece of furniture ;-))
I really love that backsplash (credenza is a cabinet in English, lol) choice. They look somewhat antique and really match the rest of the house's energy. I would suggest some antique blue glass knobs/handles for the cabinets to match the backsplash, I think that would look fantastic and tie everything together.
Love the pool tiles. Compliments the paint in the lounge room.
Absolutely amazing ! That was SO much work.
I laughed at the "forbidden" building materials called 'creme fraiche' or "chocolate mousse". Made me hungry, lol 😆
The cat is just always having the best time, haha cats love watching humans do stuff. I love the wooden looking tiles, my mom had them in her restaurant too and people always thought it was wood but it's so much easier to clean and also doesn't show every single speck of dirt and it doesn't warp. The bluegreen backsplash tiles are lovely too.
Know the renovation is frustrating, but I still think it's super charming that your house in the middle of nowhere was originally built or modified to likely help a wheelchair-user maintain a level of independence 🥰 For the age and location of the house, very unexpected! And, your own renovation efforts are actually encouraging about how straightforward converting accessible homes (from AND to) can be 💖
That is so much work! why do home renovation projects always take 3x as long to complete as you think they will? It looks simply smashing and my favorite part are the tiles on the backsplash. Great job!
The rule is it takes three times as long and costs twice as much money! I’ve lived through it many, many times and that rule NEVER changed!! The trick is to keep your expectations where they belong!
Your home renovation projects are sooooo inspiring. 🤩 I finally own a home and I’ve been telling my husband how I want to do our bedroom ceiling like yours for a year 😅 Now my new inspiration is this incredible kitchen! I love home renovation projects because it takes an engineering mind to figure out how to do the things, and then an artistic mind to make it look the way I want! Its the best of both worlds!! It’s incredible and so fulfilling 🥰 Thank you for sharing your processes with us!!
The cat came with the house? It is HIS house.
I love the tile over the sink. It looks wonderful. Especially when you see it framed by the livingroom. Great colors!
I love how when he hears clanging he asks if you're ok. Mine does that too cause I am very clumsy haha.
i never thought that plaster looked like Crème fraîche before but now I can't unsee it
I adore those teal tile! So pretty ❤ you did an excellent job!
I thought I would hate the tiles on the backsplash, but it turned out surprisingly classy! The tiles look like they have always been there, yet they are so nice and clean, and without a single cracked piece, what an improvement! The floor looks amazing, too, I hope it will not kill your backs by being too hard to work on, but people have been working on concrete floors for generations, so you'll probably not even notice.
When it comes to handles, I have one tip: Avoid any sharp angles, especially if they are also narrow, like in a small plate of steel, because they are extremely good at ripping clothes apart. Hm, might want to install one in the sewing room...?
I’ve never seen wood print tiles before. I like the overall effect! 😊
I had a terrible April, but this video has made me happier than I've been in a long time!
You don't choose a cat - a cat choses you 😉😁❤️
I love the commitment to the “it’s not my cat” bit 😅
I've seen some people paint or wallpaper white fridges and/or change the handles to elevate the look. I bet a black fridge or a teal matching your backsplash would look great.
I LOVE the way the backsplash tile angles up from the counter! That's so cool!
I would put curtains or something on the opening to the livingroom, I think the bar thing is a really good idea and it turned out super cute but if you are cooking something really smelly like bacon or that makes a lot if smoke it's nice to be able to block the kitchen off a bit. Also I get nervous when people watch me cook so I wouldn't want my guests to stare at me from the livingroom but that might just be me😅
But there is only half the size of door now so less smell??Though that is the main reason why i don't like open plan living, we have a small opening to kitchen / dining room and the smell comes out into the lounge so annoying . I hear You about being watched cooking though x
I have just found you tonight. I love your style, from what I've seen. The tile choice was brilliant and the green paint in the loungroom is amazing. Well done.
But like, for me, even the "old" kitchen is already a dream kitchen 😭😭 now to finish the vid to see the results 🤩
Yeah ok the closeups of the 80s beige details ARE ugly xD
I think the English word for the credenza is the backsplash? Being German, I'm not sure if I'm correct, heh 😅
Gold star ⭐️
Yes! It's called a backsplash.
Yaay! That was so much work!! Glad your Patreon folks and YT members have been able to support you. It already looks great! It'll be brilliant when you decorate it.🎉.Not your cat is also incredibly cute. Congratulations to all three of you! ❤
Seeing Not My Cat in your videos is always a treat.
😼
So fun to see that Bernadette Banner is also one of your patreons!
Raw wood is porous and on high touch surfaces like drawer handles would become a colony of germs and bacteria. If you want wood handles I would highly recommend sealing them with mineral oil. I look forward to your continued renovvations and decorations.
If you wanted to film your adventures in cooking I would love to watch that. Culinary Arts & Crafts.
BRAVO!!!!!! Seriously cool especially the Mini Bar Library ...looks like it was always like this!!! Love how the "Pool" tiles play with the lounge colour, and loving "Not Your Cat"
Now you need a fun privacy curtain for the bar window. Maybe some hanging beads, a set of plush velvet drapes, or a mini wooden room divider.
I'm amazed with all that you do! I'm often to scared to try but you are giving me inspiration 🥰 LOVE the tiles you used for the backsplash/credenza!
The kitchen looks amazing, and the green you chose for the salon walls is just divine! Sending extra scritches to (not) your cat!
I love the blue tile.
Good choices for your kitchen! I have those wood-like tiles in my bathroom and upstairs toilet since 2016. And to this very day, I absolutely love them.
Got me hungry for some forbidden sauces. Excellently done, I can only imagine how much work that was! Can't wait to see your personal flare added to the room though
I loved that old backsplash tile
Omigod it's so good! The tiles from the pool section are my favorite part. I think I could watch you do anything and be entertained. I'm so glad I found your channel.😊
The Nutella grout stand in was a great touch, I love about everything you turn your immense talent to- thank you xx
Your house is so whimsy, I love seeing you flip it
I love how your kitchen turned out and am really excited to see how you are going to decorate it 😄 also: cuddles for the supervisor 🐈
i think that bar window needs some doors so the kitchen smells won't get into the living room. that could be a fun project too, quite whimsical.
It turned out amazing!! I love the doorframe-turned-window, its both cute and useful 😍
The new countertops and backsplash are gorgeous, especially with the gold faucet.
It looks SO GOOD. I love the change from a doorway into a servery window and bookshelf. That gave you so much more usable space
"Backsplash", that is, (in the US) the wall behind the sink or stove, and by extension, the rest of the wall between the upper and lower cabinets is called the the backsplash 😊. It's interesting that the French word is so similar to the English word "credenza" when the American-English usage, at least, usually refers to a large horizontal piece of furniture like a large desk or something similar. I'm sure they have similar roots and aren't false cognates (like the German word "Gift" actually translates to "poison" in English and not "gift" or "present," yikes!), the subtle difference in usage is just interesting to me 😊
so much work! it turned out so cute, the tile was a great find. At this point just accept it. Its your cat. Maybe you could do a piece of furniture/cat house to keep him from scratching the wood.
Le fan club de Beboo va conquérir le monde!
Astounding! The pool tiles are gorgeous!
HAHAHAHAHAHHA!!! I tell people all the time that I graduated from the university of CZcams! Glad to meet another student! 🤣🤣
I'm looking forward to your whimsical house makeover content
I think those original kitchen floor tiles must have been sold all over Europe. Our house in Germany was completely tiled in them, as were all the houses in our little neighborhood that were built at the same time. Some of my friends houses and apartments had it as well.
I love the tiles that you chose for behind the counter, I wanted something very similar or maybe even the same for my small bathroom but even in a small bathroom it was just too much square fooatge and it would have too expensive to cover all that so I'm living vicariously throught you!
Congratulations on finishing such an ambitious project! It is beautiful!
It came out fantastic! Very impressed with your tiling, both the floor and credenza choices are lovely. Can't wait to see it once you decide on decorations.
I love the blue tiles of the backsplash!
I really admire your "can do" attitude. The kitchen looks great and the inbuilt bookshelf and hatch is so cute too.
Lolz we have been redoing our kitchen here en Bretagne and we too have an IKEA kitchen avec le meme sink and tap. We were also going to put those exact wall tiles in the bathroom. They look lush! Love how it turned out so far, can’t wait to see what you come up with for the decoration. Bravo 👏
The forbidden foods cracked me up! Fantastic job on the renovation!
Lol I have the same kitchen (the one before sadly), non working small fridge used as storage, big, noisy and useless extractor hood, everything brown. The oven also makes as much noise off than on (a lot)... So far we only painted over the old oak finish and changed the handles. Can't wait to overhaul it!
So rewarding to watch this transformation and not have to do the work haha. Great job! You will enjoy it I’m sure!
Beautiful job! I love the pass-through window. :)
at 7:13, I dunno what those are from but I found some in my former tenant's room... ew ew ew ew.
I always called the wall behind the sink the "backsplash", mine was boring AF and the kitchen is narrow with the sink at the far end so people were always sneaking up on me if any appliance was making noise so I installed a mirror for mine!
We call drywall compund "forbidden frosting" because every time I do a repair job with the stuff at work, when I come home I always want to ice cakes...
I've done just enough tiling to feel like putting in the tiles is the easy part, it's the grouting (and of course cleanup) that always gets me. OH and I know it's too late now, but ceiling before walls, walls before floors whenever possible...
Congrats on such a good job!
This is giving me life! We had to completely gut and renovate our crusty 70s kitchen (which hurt my soul a bit). The landlords didn’t maintain it over the nears so by the time we moved in it was completely unusable. We’re still renovating the rest of the house and this is giving me motivation to keep going🤎
Quel personnage 🐈 !!
Bravo pour cette chouette rénovation!
À bientôt !!
🌸🌸🌸
TEAL IS MY FAVORITE COLOR!!!! 😊
Loved it! 💖👍🐈 In Canada we call the wall behind the sink the back splash.
Can’t wait! Really excited🥰🩷 I love these kinds of videos so this will be fun to watch:3
I empathize having the fridge and microwave in the living room and having to do the dishes in the tub. (we lived through 3 months of redoing our kitchen as we had to wait for permits)
gorgeous and I adore the color of the backsplash
wonderful renovation! This inspires me to get going own my own kitchen reno, which I've held off doing for 4 years 😅
😲😲😲😲😲😲
Endlessly amazed and impressed at your creativity, skills and courage to just dive in and do things. More power to the atelier ❤️❤️❤️ it looks Amazing 🤩🤩🤩
Really beautiful, congratulations! CZcams University, go team!
I'm about to get my kitchen reno'd and we picked a company that does it in a week flat from demo day to finished! Because so many ppl have to spend months without a kitchen when they do it themselves
Brilliant! Can't wait to see how you gonna decorate the kitchen!
It looks great! All that hard work definitely paid off!!
Okay, I loved the wood of the old cabinets but it seemed like they had some mechanical/functional issues and had to go (and the counter had to be higher anyway). The replacements are lovely and really reflect the light from the glass door to brighten the whole room! Excited to see what color you paint the walls (cuz I can't imagine you leaving them white lol).
Not gonna lie the old tile put me in mind of nicotene stained teeth 🤢. The blue is a huge upgrade
I LOVE IT!
I'm so excited that we got to see the whole thing!
I think I have the same tiles as my backsplash in my kitchen! I installed them, and also some huge floor tiles and MY GOODNESS the smaller ones were easier. Tiling a floor for the first time with massive tiles was so hard!
Io devo farti i miei complimenti.... È stato senza ombra di dubbio un lavoro lungo e faticoso, ma il risultato è davvero incredibile! 😀👏🏻😀👏🏻😀👏🏻😀👏🏻😀👏🏻
The kitchen looks amazing!!! But I am drooling over that BACKSPLASH!!!!! 💚💙💚💙💚
In the US we call the kitchen wall tiles the "backsplash"
Magnifique!! La pièce semble beaucoup plus grande et lumineuse. En plus les carreaux bleus sont une merveille! Bravo!
at least in the US, a credenza is a sideboard (or "buffet" in French), the word you're looking for, at least in US English is "backsplash".
by the way, what sink did you get? We live in the suburbs of Paris, and at some point we're gonna redo our kitchen too (probably Ikea too, lol, though I don't like their plan de travail, but we don't have the budget for marble or granite), and I really really want a BIG white sink (one that fits in an 80cm caisson) edit: ah, I see it's the 62cm farm sink from Ikea, it's not as big as I want. Search continues, lol
Love the backsplash tiles! They are my fav colour
Bebu may not be your cat, but you are certainly his person!
The cabinets were so beautiful to begin with :(
Wonserful video as always. Love your content, love the cat, amazing home reno. You have poured so. Much. Work! Into this one ❤
The floor tiles look amazing ❤
