@Ahmadmallah88 I think it's dumb to judge Slaf who has yet to even play a full season so I can't back up that type of bs either, as for the reason to pick Leonard it is because he's a player who compliments CC and Suzuki. As far as Mitchkov is concerned it's not that simple, if it's true that he wants to go to the Caps, it complicates things a whole lot....

I don't see how you don't use a 5th pick to acquire an elite offensive player. When you hear things like top-3 Dman and 2nd line forward that is concerning.
They will be drafting Reinbacher know that they picked up newhook.

According to Grant, the need to pick Reinbacher, a right defenseman, would be to play with Lane Hudson, a left defenseman. Basically, Montreal needs a big "defensive" right defenseman to protect Hudson who not very good in his zone, and would be willing for that to "gamble" the 5th pick. IMO, this is why Montreal has always had a hard time at the draft table over the years...they mostly draft for needs instead of picking the best player available. Sometimes when you like too much player because of your needs, you may see qualities/skills in them which they do not have...like for KK in 2018. Indeed, REINBACHER is no Moritz SEIDER !!!! Stop putting these two names in the same sentence.😵💫 I would not like to be in HuGo's shoes in 5 years when Michkov will be already scoring 100 points a year while Reinbacher would just be an average second pairing defenseman...!!!

Of course McCagg likes Reinbacher; he's KK 2.0 another of his calls. Good players who don't have any business being drafted in the top 5. Who in their right mind would actually the pick the combination of KK/Reinbacher over Tkachuk/Michkov? 😄
Scouting probably requires Grant McCagg do a lot of travelling. If confined to the seat (car or plane) for long period of time, he is at risk for blood clots. Need to get up and walk about frequently to improve circulation.
They needed scoring and size they drafted more D men and goaltenders. Who is going to score?

I rather like to pick a talented forward like Leonard or Smith instead of him. Slafkovsky is maybe not a first line player… from what we’ve seen so far he has to improve a lot to get there. You always pick the best player available and not your actual needs as far that I’m concerned. Please don’t make another KK pick.
You have to be fucking delusional to think Montreal is picking Dvorsky or Reinbacher over Benson, Leonard, Michkov or Smith if he’s there… Montreal needs to walk away from this draft with an impact forward especially at 5th overall.. there will be plenty of RD to pick with later picks.. my personal opinion Benson is the best pick for the Canadiens he works hard and elite prospects have said he’s the best playmaker in this draft and have said he’s a first overall pick in the 3 previous draft classes… Marty St Louis would LOVE a player like Benson… When you draft Benson your drafting a player that can get 100 points in the NHL he’s a mix of Brayden Point, Patrick Kane and Mitch Marner… Benson is who I want.. I may not be a professional scout but I have been watching hockey for 28 years and following prospects all the way back when I was 11 years old In 1995.. and Zach Benson is going to be an amazing player and I’m sorry but you don’t pass on that for a RD especially when your already STACKED! On defence. You can trade a LD for a RD there are other moves you can make to get a RD in the future for example Durzi from LA seems to be movable, you can make a move like that. And wasting a 5th overall pick on a player like Dvorsky is absolutely crazy… at best! Dvorsky is a second line Center and Benson, Smith, Michkov all have impact first line potential 100 point players when is the last time Montreal had a player like that? 35? 40 years? Lol like you can’t pass on that even Leonard has first line potential but would definitely be a better player then Dvorsky on a second line, Leonard works harder, Skates faster, almost elite shot… like there are so much better options, Montreal is going to be competitive soon. may start this year so we won’t have a top pick like this again… we have to capitalize on it as much as possible we have to walk away with a top prospect first line impact prospect…

@@tylerlussier1896 I’m actually starting to want benson over smith. It’s rare to see an insanely smart hockey player with that amount of hard work and energy all around. I heard elite prospect say he’s like 2nd draft elligible player of all time in chances created for teammate of something like that only behind mcdavid. St-louis would love that guy. I think he also was voted best defensive forward in the draft by them too. He’s kinda small and not so fast but he’s sooo smart so it doesn’t really matter that much. And even if he’s 2 inches smaller than the other guys, he’s so intense, his work along the board is great so it’s not really a weakness. I prefer having a 5’10 player who works hard than a 6’2 guy who doesn’t. I won’t get over it if they take a « safe » pick like dvorsky and reinbacher over him. They are great, but it’s rare to have a player like that available at 5th.
Wow, it is quite a statement you wrote my friend and I totally agree with you especially for Smith or Michkov. I do like Benson but his skating is not explosive enough for a smaller player. This could cause him problems in the NHL which is a very fast league, however, I would still take him over Reinbacher...for sure !!!

How about this: Canadiens trade 5 and 31 with Philly to get #7 and #22. Flyers grab Smith and somehow Habs still have a chance to take Michkov because Arizona wants someone else. Habs then make a play to offer Michkov to Capitals plus #37 pick to get Washington's #8 pick plus an RD like Ryan Chesley. If everything works out, le Canadiens get #8 ( Reinbacher or Leonard or Benson or Dvorsky), a right D prospect like Chesley, #22 pick (such as Honzek or Musty or Stenberg or even ASP), and #31 pick is there to take Hrabal or best available goalie.
you've already traded 31 in your scenario. also, one of smith/michkov will be gone at 5. let's say it's smith that's gone. flyers, if we give them 5, my guess is they take leonard if it's not michkov. michkov fits arizona's timeline perfectly; he's not here for three years, and they won't be good for that long. unlikely they pass, but let's say they go benson. if we're sitting at 7 and we still don't take him, we're idiots. it'll take more than 8 and chesley to get 7 AND 37 if 7 can be michkov. much more. at least next years first as well. if we're so horny to avoid michkov, and we've traded down, take dvorsky.
i'm not even considering reinbacher anywhere in the top 8. don't compare him to seider, seider has offensive upside.

I meant to say, if Habs decide to pass on Michkov they should explore avenues that could lead to getting a good 2C, a good RHD, the best goalie prospect, and an extra center or RW. In my fantasy world I expect Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson, and Smith to be gone and Benson would be next-in-line if Habs decline to take Michkov. Arizona might want to pass on him too. That means the Canadiens might find themselves looking to pass Michkov off to the Capitals for the #8 and a prospect. What's the difference between a choice of Reinbacher, Moore, or Dvorsky? I daresay the choices are similar. As for Chesley, I was thinking of a prospect to add, not necessarily him.

Slaf is not a top-5 prospect in this draft. Fantili would not only have been number one last year but the 2 years before as well. Franchise number one centers are never available. Slaf+Reinbacher/Leonard or Fantili the choice is obviously Fantili. Slaf+Michkov no way but they're not drafting him so where are they going to get the superstar from??? You literally just said teams don't trade high picks so you have to pay. If you have a better suggestion where to get a top star center let us know.
