- Sometimes, it really does pay to have friends in all the right places. For Mel and Lisa over at EVO Manufacturing, it'd be FCA as they were able to get their hands on a brand new Jeep JT Gladiator Sport pickup truck and ahead of just about everyone else out there. For Cindy and I, it'd be them as they invited us out to Arizona to take their Gladiator out for the very first time and of course, out in the dirt! We know it isn't much but we hope you'll still enjoy this video for what it is - a first look at a brand new and bone stock Jeep truck off-road and wheeling across the desert.

Thank you! Finally got to see a non-Rubicon Jeep Gladiator Sport four-wheel. It did well.
You bet! Glad you liked what you saw :)
I've been waiting for run like this. It did do goo
About time a non-Rubicon got some love. These trucks are extremely capable and deserve more screen time.
Much more affordable. That’s why I like them.
Wow That was good it is Amazing what these vehicles can do even in stock form without no lift big tires or lockers
I have the Gladiator Sport w/tow package. It’s awesome to see it’s capability bone stock. Thanks for the video!
Glad you like it!
That Gladiator with 40's will be awesome. Thanks Eddie for share another great video.

What size tires are those that they are putting on in the thread?
jlv3x 40’s
I have always enjoyed your videos ... I still go back to your videos from a few years ago and the quality is always top notch !
Thank you, we really do appreciate it :)
Thanks for coming out !! And covering the build !
It was our pleasure and we really do appreciate you inviting us out to cover it. We had a great time with the two of you :)
I love it Eddie, Cindy and Mel! Can't wait to see what Mel and his team at Evo does to this JT for Moab! Amazing!
Cool - glad you enjoyed it and you can be sure it'll look quite different by EJS
Eddie, you knocked it out of the park once again. Can’t tell you how much I enjoy your videos. I first discovered your videos a few years back on a temporary trip for the Army. I’ve been hooked ever since. I am anxious to see this one lifted and on the trails you frequent.
Thank you, we're so glad to hear you've been enjoying our videos :)
Love seeing you guys doing vids together. Makes me watch the older ones over and over. The crawl through the canyon reminds of a picture you posted of Mobi and others a few years back. All the best guys.
Oh yeah, just like the good ol' days :)
Started the trial ride down El Rodeo Rd past the dump on the left. I have a house out there and soon will be wheeling the new JT next year. Looking forward to all the new JT videos you & Mel will produce and the install/accessories builds so I get it right the first time. I'm new to the 4x4 off-road world as I have ridden motocross dirtbikes all my life. One day we will meet and I hope it will be an epic adventure on the trails as I have chosen my new WAYALIFE.
From one man to another I thank you and your wife.
God bless
Awesome! Hope to see you out there :)
Love it! Friends in all the right places for sure!
LOL - Indeed :)
Looking forward to seeing this build in the future. Awesome vid as always!
Awesome! More videos are coming your way :)
Great Video - Can't wait to see it jacked up on 40's The pics on Mel's FB come full circle now with this video. Awesome
LOL - be sure to watch the video we just posted up today :)
Cool truck. Stunning landscape! Thanks for sharing.
You bet - so glad we could share this with you :)
Best Video yet...I can't really afford a rubi edition so watching this sport model looking as great as it did has inspired me to go look for a job...well maybe after I sleep a bit more..
LOL - it would be worth getting a job for :)
First gladiator wave when real wheel came up lol can’t wait see the build good stuff as always be safe
Its so awesome. Thanks for the great detail on the website for the compressor.
Awesome, glad you watched to the end :)
That was fantastic.
Glad you enjoyed seeing this.
Shout out to Mel for the rapport and mutual respect he has build with Jeep that affords us the opportunity to enjoy this video. :)
I appreciate the installs and adventures as well. Keep
Awesome, glad to hear it :)
Very nice! Can't wait to see the builds out in Moab in just two weeks. Gonna be awesome. Safe Travels, God Bless and see you at EJS!
Awesome, see you there :)
Thanks for sharing … looked like a blast !!!
Glad you had fun watching it :)
Awesome video Eddie and Cindy, and can’t wait to see the progress.
Thank you :)
Cool that you are one of te first ones that have to test the Gladiator in person! Nice!! I want one...
Pays to have long time friends in all the right places :)
Pretty cool Eddie, looks like you also enjoyed driving it. Hopefully you and Cindy will have the opportunity to get some video of the finished build. Thanks for the chance to see it in action.
We got a lot of footage of the tear down. We'll definitely get what it looks like when finished :)
Cool truck, cooler lifestyle. Keep the videos coming!
Thanks! you know more is coming your way for sure :)
Looking forward to seeing the EVO build! Topless of course.
Awesome! Hoping we can share some of it with you here :)
Another awesome video! JT looked like it was right at home in the rocks (turned the volume down so I couldn’t hear the grinding) can’t wait to see Mel’s build, it sounds like it will be over-the-top!
LOL - that screeching can be tough to listen to.
Can wait to see that EVO BUILD it's going to be SICK!!!
Just have to wait till EJS :)
Love it!! thanks for sharing!
You bet, so glad you enjoyed it :)
Great video thank you!
Hi this is RedRex1 really cool video awesome jeeps when Eddie Ho ,and Cindy, Mel wade put a video together they always crush it .Good work guys.
Thank you. We really do appreciate it :)
Love it , can’t wait to see you get one and build it 👍🤟
LOL - you and me both :)
That thing needs to be in the AIR ASAP!! Gonna look BAD ASS!!
LOL - I can assure you that it's happening even as we speak :)
Cool video! I really liked the side by side driving where you showed the wheel articulation at speed . Don’t see that at all in many videos. I’d say the base gladiator is more than enough for most people!
Glad you liked it!
Great video. I get a kick out of everybody complaining about it’s wheel base. We’ve got to stop comparing it to the JL. It’s built to compete with mid-size trucks.
Totally agree :)
Awesome! Cant wait to see what EVO has in store for Moab
Fortunately, it's only a couple of weeks away :)
My next rig for sure. Can do daily duties and tow the LJ when needed :)
I really enjoyed this video, I’m eager to see what all they do to the truck eagerly awaiting the follow up.
Awesome - hope to bring more to you as soon as we can :)
Finally an off road video of a gladiator that's not a Rubicon.
Does pretty well :)
Would look pretty sick in a 2 door version. Great video by the way!
Unfortunately, I don't think that will happen.
a real test drive finally.
Oh yeah and we have the scratches to prove it :)
Never subscribed to any channel. Been on CZcams for a long time. Enjoy your content and how you edit videos. Big fan!
We're so glad to hear you enjoy our videos and we're honored to have you as a subscriber :)
I can't wait to see what they do to it!!
If you haven't already seen it, check out the next video.
I want a Rubicon Diesel in a Gladiator. Great video and sneak peek at what’s coming.
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Yes Sir! (Or ma'am haha) I can't wait for the ecodiesel version. I'll be ready for when it does!
Cool - it'll be nice to see for sure.
You guys are awesome...knew I could count on you for a REAL first test drive...cant believe that is just the sport...no lockers so sway disconnect...can you guys keep a tally during the build and see how much it costs to modify it from stock...ive been waiting for the it to come out but 60 grand for the rubi is out of budget. If the sport handles like that I'll get one of those and just build it piece by piece. Thanks again guys you rock!!!
What I can tell you is that this Sport comes in at about $35k. EVO is trying to make it so that what you see at the end of the build comes in at about $60K total. Essentially, the price of a Rubicon only with better parts, lifted and running big tires.
This is my exact thought. I currently own a Tacoma and am looking to trade. Looks like the Sport is the only one in my budget, and I was really curious about how it would tackle stuff. Seeing this vid and how it can tackle all that with no locker and the standard suspension... I think I feel more comfortable going for a Sport now...
Another excellent video Eddie!!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it :)
Looks great. Cant wait to see one of those on 37s!
LOL - try 40's!
@@wayalife I like the way you think!
The high desert is blooming and alive and beautiful
Indeed it is. A great year to see wildflowers.
Thanks for testing a Gladiator in a form the average U.S. citizen can afford. You'd have to be pretty jaded to think it needs "improving".
Oh yeah, the Gladiator is a very capable truck.
That one bad Jeep truck!
Awesome thanks
Jeeps are quite capable of handling it. This just shows how.
Oh yeah :)
The Gladiator is the Jeep to get to build upon. Standard Dana 44's, 10mm thicker reinforced axle housings. Just thinking about the camper conversions along with removable roof sounds quite interesting!
There will be some really nice builds out of this truck for sure :)
Thank you! Finally get to see what a stock truck can do.
Awesome :)
@@wayalife if someone had limited funds and wanted to increase the capability of their stock JT what is the one thing you would recommend upgrading?
I suppose it depends on how you're wanting to use your JT.
@@wayalife offroading and camping in backwoods locations, some areas swampy others more mountainous
I like it!👍👍😎🇺🇸
Awesome!
I wanted to cry when I seen the scratches on the side lol. Nice!
LOL - No point in having a Jeep if you don't get out and use it :)
@@wayalife awesome reply! Agree 100%
wow amazing video.
Thank you
Not going to lie. I felt sick every time I heard the skids, and frame scratch against the rocks. And it’s not even my Jeep!
Me too bro... Me too
To have a simular brakeover angles; 33's for the 2 door Wrangler Rubicon, 34's for JLUR and 35's for the JTUR(JT wheel base shown in this video and for the rear overhang).
You get used to it... ish. I still don't like hearing my jeep squeal like that, but it beats the cost of moving to 37s lol
How to turn your $45K pickup truck into a $25K pickup truck in three easy steps.
Don't they sell frame sliders/savers? Every video has the new jeeps scraping their frames I understand skid plates getting beat but a new frame
In all honesty. I'm really trying to like the JT as I've been a pick up guy for a long time but I just can't figure out how to like this thing.
Thanks for another great video. Finally someone took one offroad. I'm now happy with my decision to order the JLUR.
It's clearly not for everyone. I think it'll look a lot different with 40's
Eddie, Thanks for the reply. I am looking forward to the first lifted JT. It might change my mind. Would like to see one on 37's
Thanks again for the great videos. @@wayalife
I'm with you. I have had a lot of Jeeps. Even a Comanche. I have a JL currently. But man, that is one ugly truck. It just looks... off. Lucky for me, I don't have to buy it! ;)
Good video as always though.
I see you guys are in Bullhead city , I would love to go with you on a trail when I'm here as well.... I have a house there too. During the hot summer I'm at my house in Prescott Az. Smiley rock is a fun trail in the high country.
nothing like watching mel drive the wheels off something
Great video, thanks for taking us all along for the ride. The more I see of the JT the more I NEED one in my driveway. I might even give up my Chrysler 300C as my daily driver for the JT.
LOL - they really are sweet :)
This is the best of both worlds jeeptruck. This is something I would love to have but can't.
Bummer that you can't have one.
FUN!
As someone who is so new to the jeep community (I bought my first jeep, a 5.7L Hemi 6spd auto JK about a month ago, and have yet to get it on a truck and shipped home) I'm still not stoked on the JT, but I can certainly imagine what it can be with some serious mods. I totally get how a jeep based pick up will dominate other mid sized pick ups offroad, so the idea isn't lost on me. I just want to see one that's been fully juiced to buy into the concept. Other than the minority position I hold on the Gladiator I dig your videos and always look forward to the next installment! Great job guys!
I don't think this truck will ever be for everyone and really, I think Jeep understands that. That being said, we're so glad to hear you still enjoy our videos just the same :)
A little lift and some bigger tires go a long way 😍👌🏻
Cant wait to see the Gladiator on 40s
It's gonna look great for sure :)
Awesome footage. Really cool to see it wheeling so soon. It seems like you might have to take some different lines because of the length. I’m guessing a medium lift but more than on the wrangler plus some large tires will help compensate. I geuss that might affect the turning radius though. Looks like the turning radius is a bit of a problem already. This truck seems like it’s all about balance.
Well, we have no illusions that this is first and foremost, a truck and NOT a Wrangler. For what it is, we found that it functioned quite well.
Man those are nice
cannot wait for jt's to be everywhere just like jk's and jl's
That will be a great day for sure :)
This is the new rock kissing truck Jeep one of a kind
Sooo jealous you got to drive a JT!!
LOL!! It really was a thrill :)
I remember when cj-5 guys said CJ-7 was waaay too long for serious off road... lol if they could see this limo monstrosity
LOL - yup!
also have to realize, this gladiator is no lifted so even a wrangler stock suspension would have scraped.
Gary Lund also have to realize it’s a truck can’t compare it to a wrangler. How would a Colorado, ranger or Tacoma do?
super fun
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed it :)
I love the new gladiator! But i wish jeep comes out with a two doors version though😎👍
Would be nice for sure but I don't think there's enough of a market for them. At least, not too many manufacturers think so.
Two door with a “long” bed, perhaps?
sick line @3:04
Priced one out today... $60k. I have a feeling the sport will be a popular model.
I think so too. For how most people will use one of these, a Sport really is all you need.
I bet the new JT will make sky high lifts popular again! lol.
Rod Wood yup ... LCG builds are on their way out anyway haha
gogo!
These are the trails in your back yard? Way too cool, Living The Dream in AZ!!!
It really is nice out there :)
Which trail is that? Looks like Box Canyon near Florence.
Interested to see what EVO has in store for the Gladiator.. Thanks for sharing.
Hoping we can share some of that with you here very soon :)
Great video! I'm so excited to see the GT builds. I think it's going to be huge for the overlanding community. Off topic, what trail is this?
This is just some of the stuff you can found out behind where Mel lives.
The Sport seems pretty capable.
Yes, it is surprisingly capable and a lot more affordable.
Great video! I see some “pin striping” on the passenger side.
LOL - ain't a real Jeep without some :)
Hey there, what trail is that cruising in the rock mountain walls??
8:35 got that seat lifted and scooted all the way up 😂
LOL - not all of us are blessed with the gift of height.
Awesome video! Thank you for taking the time to keep us informed. Did you feel the steering is a bit tighter than the JL?
If you're talking about a bone stock JL, I never thought the steering on it wasn't tight. Both feel good to me.
More!
Love the gladiator thinking about trading in my lifted jl sahara for the gladiator Rubicon
LOL - I think a lot of people are thinking the same thing :)
Once the DIesel engine is available, The Gladiator will be an aswome overland platform !!!
Would be nice for sure but I don't think I'd be willing to wait for it.
So would it be better to start with a sport or rubicon if you wanted to make changes similar to what they talked about in the vid?
Depends on how you will be using it. For the most part, I think most people would be fine with a Sport.
I fell in love... omgreamazomezing job! 😱🤯🤩😍
got 2 questions though.... is the rubicon worth it? Or I’ll be better off building it? How much was this build? (actually it was 3 question, but 2 built into one)
Depends on how big you want to go and how you will use yours. This Sport cost about $32k. Getting it to where it is now cost about another $30k. That's about the cost of a fully loaded Rubicon.
I used to drive a long wheel base Limousine that was shorter than that.
Wow, even new Jeeps squeak a lot, huh?
Not sure what you were hearing but we did have some stuff loose in the bed.
What trail was that with the canyon switchbacks, very awesome.
Looks like Anza Borrego, CA
I have to see the Gladiator with my own eyes. So far I like the look of the JL Rubicon better. Tought of trading for the Gladiator but not sure even tough is actually priced well.
The two are really different animals. If you're wanting a Jeep, the Wrangler is for you. If you're wanting a pickup, the Gladiator is for you :)
Where in Arizona was this filmed?
What AZ trail is this?
Just from the looks of it that seems to be the standard handling for a pickup with one exception... That steering seemed to be more sensitive than say a Chevy 1500. It looked like the wheels turned much more per steering wheel degree. Is that right? I'll need to go test drive. I'm not really needing a truck now atm... Thinking of BMW M3 after my JKU is paid off.
Yup, this is basically a nice pickup truck with a solid front axle, doors that come off, a roof that comes off, a windshield that folds down and yes, really nice steering :)
@@wayalife what you guys said about the wheel base is a really good point. With those EVO upgrades and axle swaps that is going to be one helluva off road BEAST. I wonder if he is going to keep the stock transfer case or go after market for better 4LOW ratio.
Shaun Brehm he’ll the the factory t-case. With the all new 8-speed auto, it’s more that up for the job and if anything, Mel feels that a 4:1 is too low
