- This is set in London in the heart of Theatreland. We're backstage, there are suitors, a leading lady and leading man, mirrors, make-up, cozzies and no doubt a few bottles of Rescue Remedy and a dresser! Settle back, listen to the orchestra tuning up in the pit and leave it to Father Brown to sort out any untoward happenings.
Dark but funny in parts. All human life is here!
It's read by me, Greg Wagland for Magpie Audio.

One of the more bizarre stories! Would love to have known the back story behind that husband and wife!
Yes. There’s an odd tale to be told there alright!
Yaaaaay 👍 A new one to my ears!! Thank you Mr Wagland!
Enjoy!
Dearest Uncle,
I fear that during pursuit of a cure for my insomnia, I have strayed far from your voice and fallen prey to the inexorable black hole that has fiendishly swallowed many a fellow listener.
It is of the insufferably adorable cat videos that I've become enamored and for this I am quite remorseful.
I shall not stray again! For I shall never find a voice so enchanting and comforting!
The prodigal nephew has returned, Dear Uncle! And tonight I shall feast upon The Man in The Passage!
Ah, nephew, beware the cat video! We have all been mesmerised by them, like some Greek geezer on his way home from Troy. Especially avoid sea otter videos: that’s a cold Turkey of hard durance. Glad you’re back on the path! 👍🏼🦚
Hey Greg, hoping you are well as you provide these stories. I appreciate the time and effort you must put forth for us , your followers.
As always you help with my insomnia with your soothing voice.

Thanks for listening, Catherine.
Chesterton's prose is fantastic. And, your recitation is wonderful. The audio is very clean.
Thanks Mr A
Greg Wagland 💙 and Father Brown 🤎
You read with such eloquence!
Wonderfully done sir. What always impresses me is the way you set the mood and the scene using only your voice (and of course the author's brilliant text).
Thank you very much!
The Father Brown stories are so good and you narrate them so very well - thanks for another great story!
Glad you like them!
Entering Father B's world enjoyable as ever, although this one was a little bizarre!
Beautifully read Sir Wagland. I doff my extra tall top hat to you 👌
Many thanks, thp
Delightful, as usual! Thank you, kind sir!
Glad you enjoyed, Larsen !!!
😊 Yes, one of my favourites! 👏👏👏
So grateful, thanks Greg
Welcome French blue!!!
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio Oh, thank you!! Actually,, I've been around quite a while now, and have listened to nearly your entire catalog. In fact, I only have about four Holmes stories and the Hound of the Baskervilles left to be immersed in/ fall asleep to and how I dread getting to those final words!
Just to share something slightly special, your voice~not my husband's ~ is the last voice I hear at night! 😊
I usually have to listen twice to these to get enough of the details to piece the story together because I can't give it exclusive, undivided attention. I don't begrudge the time. But my favorite parts of these are your written introductory description and your parting shot at the end. Do YOU write, GW? I think maybe you should author your own Victorian/Edwardian Era detective mysteries and narrate them. Add modern sensibilities on universal themes. You know the subject. You have the wit. Try it out on us. You have a ready-made, adoring audience. Presto! Success!!!
Sounds straightforward, tottimae!! Will give it some thought!
Thank you very much for this excellent narration - as always!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Here, here! 👍
I’ve just discovered Father Brown. I cannot think of a better person than yourself to bring this stories to life. Thank you so much!
I read these in my chidhood. Chesterton was a Roman Catholic so had a special resonance as I was brought up in that religion.
Brilliant, thank you for the new story!
Thanks for listening, shoshana !
