This was very well done and it really showcased your talent of switching between multiple accents, making for a very immersive experience. If you're ever interested, I think Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot series would be a fantastic addition to this channel 😊
Wow wow wow, we never give up hope, even when the enemy's sword is on our throat. What a wonderful reading, switching between so many accents so quickly!
I was captivated by the narration of 'The Pot of Caviare.' The story's setting and characters are vividly brought to life, showcasing Conan Doyle's talent beyond the Sherlock Holmes series. It's a gripping listen.Thank you!
Nothing whatsoever! So I worked at the polls yesterday (Election Day in the US~for those interested in our politics, Democrats swept many crucial municipal elections, ~including the Virginia governorship!~ even in red States, and some of the most conservative States where they voted on special referendums to restore COMPLETE AND COMPREHENSIVE women's medical care which came up victorious, strongly indicating rejection of Donald Trump and MAGA, and reinforcing America's core desire for democracy to always prevail!) It was a 15-hour day and the point I'm making is I let a sink full of dishes go!. I always find something to listen to while tackling such things and this came on just in the nick of time! Thanks ACD, thank you Greg!
Wonderful - another ACD story! I've had a ludicrously stressful day following a catastrophic hard drive failure and so this will be perfect night time listening for me - cheers Greg!
Wow! Glad I did not wait until bedtime for this one! Yes, we have fish fingers in the U.S., but we call them fish sticks. They taste much better than caviar, in my opinion. Thanks for the chills!
ACD certainly knows how to write a dark tale! I guessed the end might go something like that, he does an excellent job foreshadowing. Don't want to say more for fear of spoiling the story for someone who hasn't yet read it. Thanks for the excellent narrattion, I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Thanks! ….This was really a tour-de-force in vocal performance! The range of (accurate) accents portrayed was impressive : German, Scottish, American, male, female, young & old.…More impressive, still, was in capturing the many characters’ emotional “u-turns” throughout the tale….Finally, to have accomplished all of the preceding in a short story, no less, was quite a feat.
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio "vividly horrifying tale", perhaps? I was listening in the morning, nearly lifted out of my seat. Great narration, thank you!
Greg, you are the very, very best! For several years you have been an evening guest at my ear. Your storytelling is on PAR with the Master of Tales, Mr. MRJames, I assume, & your literature choices exceptional. Thank you so very much! All of your work is very much appreciated. It is exciting to see your subscribership is like a medium sized college town; no doubt your Channel entertains a global citizenship. 💙🌎🌍🌏💚Commendations, good sir. 🧿🕊️
Good heavens Greg!!! That was horrific! 😮 Great reading, as per usual Sir. This one just showed up in my feed today, 7 months after you originally published it. Thanks CZcams! 😅😂
Shippams fish paste? Woe is me, I am old. How dare you remind me Mr Wagland. Yet I will forgive you on the basis of all these wonderful readings of yours which are so appreciated. Thank you.
Fair enough. I think it’s still possible to get Shippams. Would it be unfair to suggest it was rather less than a quality product? Often found in larders and pantries up and down the land. Consumed when I went round to my gran’s for my ‘first’ tea, plus a beautiful homemade coconut cake. Happy days I recall.
I did not expect that from Arthur Conan Doyle. I was hoping for it, but did not expect it. Of course, I knew from the beginning where the story was going, but it was an thrilling ride nonetheless!
Wow, I don’t know if this actually happened or not, but he certainly delivered history with a (shall we say, a "gut wrenching"?) punch! Great delivery, as always Greg- if we have "fish fingers", I'VE never had them, as I've always hated and mistrusted fish, due to some fish I was brow beaten myself into eating by my folks (and a difficult row they had of it, my already having a strong natural aversion to anything that smelt like that, and therefore a redoubled disinclination to test wether my nose knew it's bidness, or not) who swore up and down and PROMISED it was a "boneless" fish. Of course, the fish proved in it's devious perfidity, to have cunningly lied to the chef, and somehow secreted a tiny but bloody sharp bone into it's scaly corpse, and one that got well and truly stuck in my throat (almost one might say like a fishhook, lol- sorry, I know that's TWICE - Jimmy Durane - Benny Hill bad joke "ba dum tah" drum stingers not included). Likely why I was loath to the call "we're from the gov't and here to help/save you, now take this Covid shot or else, Goddamn ,blast and rot your eyes for a dough faced poxed whoreson!!!!", as being not so trust worthy, after all ;) Thanks SO freakin' much, can't express enough how much I really love your curration and performance of these historical ACD masterpieces. Oh, and a belated Merry Christmas and Happiest of New Years to You and Yours, Greg! Best Always, M
So so so so scaryyy, the way it goes round and round with so many wars nowadays, for so many people this is a reality, this is so scary, i would take the poison myself.. 😢. Most scary story, no ghost story can beat this, reality.
Hey! I've been listening to your holmes audiobooks for years - really love your work. Been wondering, would you do audiobooks of other authors? I'd love to hear some famous works done in your narrating style, and I'm sure many people would jump on that too
I wasn’t familiar with these ACD stories before I found this channel, I’ve listened to all of them and they’re terrific stories, perfectly read as always. The Coming of the Huns is a favourite and this is another good one - I didn’t expect that ending. Cheers Greg
I was not expecting such an end. Very sad and tragic for the characters involved. Noble intentions and sinful trickery. The greatest punishment to then realise ones actions where not needed in the end. I am surprised this hasn't been made into a movie.
No...maybe its a European thing but im fortunate to never have been introduced to fish paste. 😅 😅 I have always firmly turned caviar down or refused ro but it up until now. This story, however, has romanticized it a bit and tempted me to finally sample caviar as an adult. 🫣😬
Came for Sherlock Holmes, stayed for amazing storytelling. Your work is amazing Greg, thank you so much for making these 💝
A brilliant writer and an exceptional narrator. Thanks for all your efforts, Greg.

I am soooo early! Yay nothing wrong with a little ACD in the afternoon 🙂
Nothing whatsoever!

Hurray! Amazing reads as always 💜 appreciate this channel so much
Always excited when I see you have a new upload. Thank you for the hours of entertainment you have given me. Helped me get through some tough times.
What a superbe slo-mo rollercoaster ride! Thanks, Mr. Wagland
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love these stories - thus one in particular puts your ability to do a wide range of accents on display. Great job as usual!
Glad you like them!
An excelent tale many thanks.
And thank you for this dark little gem!
Adore... Thank You!
Cheers KiKi
That really was excruciating! Thanks! Beautifully read,
Yes. Truly excruciating.
There has never been an ad in the history of my seventy four years that I have detested more than this one to enslave you to the government
Every time you post a new recording, you make my day 😊
Wow! Glad I did not wait until bedtime for this one! Yes, we have fish fingers in the U.S., but we call them fish sticks. They taste much better than caviar, in my opinion. Thanks for the chills!
Thanks, Greg! Hope you'll also look for more public domain mysteries to read that are akin(ish) to ACD Holmes. Thanks!

Yes. This is a beauty in that regard!
Thank you! I love finding your latest artful interpretive readings.
Glad you like them!
Very good, many thanks xxx
Thank you!!
Love your work. I’ve bought almost all the books you narrated on audible. You have a fabulous range of characters Greg. Best of the Best. Thank you.
Thank you, Janette. All the best!
Thanks Greg. ❤

Glad you enjoyed it, Shineon83. Will add it to my own Pot of Caviare fund! Thank you!
What a good story, and performed by one of my favorite readers! Thank you, Greg! 🌹
My pleasure!
Oh my word! You should add a warning to those who are listening before bedtime.
How would the warning be worded?

I was about to comment then remembered about spoilers so I shall just utter praise - I was gripped from the start by both story and storytelling.
It's a great tale! Cheers kvdb.

What a story 😮! Horror and suspense combined.
TYSM Great reading
Thank you.
Always enjoy your narrations ❤. Thank you Greg Wagland. 😊
Thanks for listening
Give it a thought...be like Ms Patterson. 😉Thanks, Greg! Happy new year!
Thank you Larsen. And also to you 👍🏼

I'm enjoying the short commentary after your (exceptional, as always) readings, Greg.
I just wanna take a minute and tell you I love you Beautiful Voice Man 😊 ❤️
Why thank you, Michelle?
@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio What? I can't talk today.Im missing Tom Petty
😢 Thank you
Didn't know this one... 😮 Strong... A bit Roald Dahl-esque
Dude, as a teen i find your audio and acting more awesome than any web serious 😮
The last little addition was unexpected and funny. I have listened to all of your wonderful Sherlock Holmes readings. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Yes, you’re right. Imperialist wars.
Ouch! Good story!
"For God's sake, don't touch the fish paste!" Weren't those Oscar Wilde's final words?
Something along those lines!
love all your work Greg, cheers from Sonoma, California
How’s the weather in Sonoma?
it’s been a very wet and long winter, but the last few weeks have been gorgeous.

There's a few other authors on the channel. Some bits of Dickens, M. R. James, Pushkin?
"Mr. Mauser and Mr. Maxim are the men who will see us through!"
heheh old timey gun jokes
Yes. What would it be today? Ms. Uzi?

In the US, we call fish fingers “fish sticks.” 🐠😁
I was not expecting such an end. Very sad and tragic for the characters involved. Noble intentions and sinful trickery. The greatest punishment to then realise ones actions where not needed in the end.
I am surprised this hasn't been made into a movie.
Love it!

We call'em Fish Sticks ...frozen Fish Sticks
I like 'em. Can't deny it.
Mr Greg how are you doing. I hope all is well. How is Sherlock 😅 I hope he has more stories for you.
TPB
Good page, thank you. Normal service May be Resumed, Shortly 🙈😵💫👍🏼

❤❤
Glad you have fish fingers, but never found out what was in those little pots of Shiphams paste, had forgotten all about them!
😮
Seems so mid 20th century. Boris Karloff hosts the adaptation.
Yes!
Ooh that ending....reminds me of a certain Stephen King movie
Oh, which one!
The Mist. The movie has a different ending than the novella.
Very dark.
Had the same awful twist as a sci-fi film called the mist.
We do have fish fingers aka fish sticks here in the USA.
Fish sticks. Thank you. Fish fingers is funnier, anthropomorphic nonsense. Sticks is no nonsense, puritanical almost. Can’t decide which I prefer!
Thanks. Yes. Fish sticks.
The first in America do not have fingers 😂. They have sticks instead 😅
😟
I don't like caviar either.
Not sure I’ve ever had it. It made no impression if I did.
