    Mickey Mantle died at 63, he had liver cirrhosis, liver cancer, and outright liver failure caused by his alcoholism. He had to have a liver transplant, and died 2 months later. His drinking was so severe that it led his wife and 4 sons all to abuse alcohol. All of them, including Mickey Sr. eventually went through AA. Mantle's son Billy died at 36 from heart failure brought on by years of alcoholism. His other son, Mickey Jr, later died of liver cancer at 47, also caused by alcoholism. if there is a "Mickey Mantle gene" believe me you DON'T WANT IT. Mantle is not an example of a hard working alcoholic who could handle his liquor and who beat the odds.....his family's story is one of the worst case scenario's of what alcoholism can really do to you and your loved ones. The man lived to watch two of his adult sons die from suffering from his same addiction only to die himself at 63 also because of boozing. That's a horrific tragedy I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

    My worry is that Bert gets a pass on how much he drinks because he isn’t an angry drunk, and he’s also open about his drinking. This is unusual for alcoholics, since many of them are ashamed of it and so they hide their drinking, and then also become angry/resentful and even violent.

    I severely lowered my alcohol consumption, lost 40 pounds, and am in better shape in my mid 30s than in my mid 20s. I have more money, sleep better, and feel less emotional stress. Nothing beats a cold beer on a hot day with sports on TV, but i treat that like a Snickers bar: nice treat every now and then.

    • @brushstroke3733
      @brushstroke3733 Před rokem

      @Formosan That's all true and good advice, but for me I just couldn't control myself that way. For a short while after quitting cannabis for a few months, I was often able to only smoke on the weekends which was awesome, but it always eventually turned into daily use. Then I would ramp up to smoking minimum 5 to 10 hits every couple hours. As you said, that leads to it being less effective, less enjoyable, and life seeming to go by very quickly and in a blurr.
      Also, for many years I only drank on weekends, though I always drank to get drunk. I couldn't stop at buzzed or I would start to come down and feel like crap, so I just kspt drinking until it was time for bed. Then I was laid off and had no reason not to drink every day, so that became the habit. Amd though I wanted to stop every day, something in my mind would turn at around 1:00 AM and then I'd go out and buy at least a six pack of strong beer/ale, or a twelve pack of eighteen pack of lighter beer, and guzzle it all down by 5:00 or 6:00 AM, all while smoking weed and cigarettes roughly hourly.
      I wish I could maintain using in moderation, but once Dr. Jeckyl lets Mr. Hyde out, Mr. Hyde takes over. It's like dancing with a 400 lb gorilla - I'm going to stop when he wants to stop. Good for you that you aren't as deeply damaged that you don't need substances to self medicate your self loathing though! You're a lucky duck!

I took 50mg and within an hour I was in full kratom withdrawal. Runny nose, stuff nose, achy muscles, lethargy. Bert, dude, I used to wake up to drinking, hospitalized w a .41 BAC. I figured out how to be the same person sober, it’s all in your head that you have “social anxiety”. Plus BPC 157 to repair lover and pancreas. 1 year later I’m down 35lbs and blood pressure of a teen at 32.

    Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this... should I share this video with one of my oldest, best friends who is in denial of being an alcoholic? We've had discussions about his drinking before, fights about it, I've suggested therapy, I've been supportive as much as I can by being understanding, and forgiving, other times trying to show tough love. Nothing seems to flip the switch in their brain.
    It's gotten to the point (we're 30) where we just don't talk about it anymore, and rarely talk about anything other than "the good ol days" and it's really causing a huge hinderance on his growth as a person. It also feels draining being his friend now, there's so much inside that is buried deep, but he won't share anymore. I don't know if it would be too "passive aggressive" to share something like this, but I don't know what else to do about it.

      No one can tell an alcoholic when to quit. If it continues to be a real problem consider taking care of yourself and attend an Al-Anon meeting. You can't change his behavior but you can try to change yours.

    Found this pretty interesting. I'm on a 10 yr bender, but specifically the last couple years of mostly what was described here. Might take a night off a week. But most nights are 6 beers + 1/2 of a 750Ml bottle of 35% apple whiskey, some nights are half that. But it's been a constant. I'm 37, feel better than I did at 22, look better than I did then too, but I don't know the longevity of this.
