    In this video, Dave Ramsey speaks to Dara, a schoolteacher with $40-50K in Identity Theft. Her father used her social security information when she was in college to open credit cards. The amount of documentation required caused her to give up and file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
    Now that she’s behind on payments, Dave helps her prioritize: Food, clothing, shelter, Transportation, utilities before she does anything else. Planning and budgeting can be the most important part of getting your finances back in order, and if you let all of it pile up, you can find yourself emotionally and financially drained.
    To prevent this kind of stress decision-making cycle that may result from identity theft, make sure you work the baby steps www.daveramsey.com/baby-steps in order by taking Financial Peace University: www.daveramsey.com/fpu/?snid=... This will allow you to take back control of your life!
    If you want to avoid a situation like Dara’s, Dave recommends you get Identity Theft Protection goo.gl/QoEwgw!

    All she had to do is freeze credit. Change all her bank account numbers and everything that affected that she owns. That's what I did. Bad thing is if you want to open another credit line you'll have to pay another $30 to do unlock and lock it back up. Worth it in my opinion

    Identify theft can ruin a family to the point of destroying it. People who do this type of illegal activity need to be persecuted to the extreme. My heart and soul goes out to those who have been a victim to this evil act. It's taken me a yr and a half to stop dwelling on my circumstance and put my first foot forward. With the help of God and my pastors I'm on track to giving my children the life they deserve and praying for the individuals who tried to destroy my identity. God is good and life is too precious to live in it's past. This too shall pass 🙏🏽💪🏽🇺🇲

    My ex has stolen my identity 3 times. Twice with his ex girlfriend who posed as me and forged my signature. The police know he did it, know where he lives, said they’d arrest him and never did anything about it. It was left up to me all 3 times to resolve it and get it all removed from my credit report. Theres no telling if he will do it again because nothing has been done about it the last 3 times. I froze everything, changed my bank 3 times now, I have no credit cards or anything yet he was still able to take loans out in my name at a furniture store, a Home Depot credit line, some other crazy loan they wouldn’t give me info on, and he tried a car loan. What a joke.

    I always tell people to not put personal information about yourself over the internet, like your date of birth, mother's maiden name, address etc.. I believe people might have a little information about you & search even further to see what else they can find out about you. You can also throw them off by putting false information about yourself to make it more difficult for them to research about you.

      @TheYoungBaker Před 6 lety

      Identity theft is a very common thing. It's scary. I used to work for a bank that taught me some, but mostly what happens at a bank. I learned that the most common identity theft happens to young children that have no need for credit or a social security number yet. So it takes many years for them to find out about it. Other identity theft comes from people being too careless with their social security number, ID, or card. Way to often i would hear that someone's card had been stolen and it had their pin number written on it. Make sure to watch your account for weird purchases and contact the bank if you find something suspicious. My small town bank would call people if they found something that was purchased from an unusual state or country, but bigger banks often do not. Of course there are many other ways for identity theft to happen. I didn't deal with that in my department, but many banks offer identity protection and screening with their bank accounts. There are also things like life lock that you can pay monthly for. Something like that is definitely worth it to me.

      So easier to ruin your life and credit and declare bankruptcy? I don't think she did enough research on this subject during the two years she said she was fighting it.
      All she had to do was file a police report, report the accounts to the lenders as fraudulent, and freeze her credit.
