    There's nothing shady about this song or the act. Nevermind the couple of political comments made in here by other Portuguese people. The song has enough merit on it's own and I'm not surprised that you liked since it's a decent song. If it's Portuguese political songs people want to talk about then look up the entry from Paulo de Carvalho that was used in the revolution and all. That's political. This is just a harmless song with good lyrics.
    Nice to see that back & forth is back btw.

    I went back to Chris West's book on the ESC and although he acknowledges that Eduardo was used by the Portuguese fascist dicator for propanganda he points out that the song's title translates as the wind changed and he wonders if it's a reference to the winds of change in Africa. Portugal were being subversive at Eurovision before the spark that lit the Carnation Revolution.

    When it comes to old Portuguese Eurovision songs, the most well known one here (Portugal) is Desfolhada Portuguesa by Simone de Oliveira in 1969.

    San Marino does not have televote. The "televote" of San Marino is a sort of algorithm

    • @ImStevan
      @ImStevan Před 3 lety +2

      They pick 5 countries at random, take their televote, combine them and what you get is Sammarinese televote
      People trying to vote from San Marino are counted as voters from Italy, if San Marino is competing in a semi-final, and Italy isn't voting in it, then Sammarinese people simply can't vote

    Eurovision was concibed after world war 2 to unite Europe because the 2 big wars happened in Europe, and make sure it Will not happen again. That was the proposit of this contest.

    La reacción tiene que ser al final de la canción, o como mucho parar la canción para comentar algo. No se puede hablar mientras se escucha una canción, esa no es la forma adecuada de apreciar la música ni de poder reaccionar, estar hablando todo el rato mientras suena la música 🤦

    People don't talk much about this song because, well, for one, people don't talk much about old Portuguese entries in general, and also, amongst Portuguese people, this is an entry that raises our neck hairs, due to the shady historical context behind it. We have absolutely nothing against the singer or the song in itself, but the idea of sending a black man to Eurovision in 1967 was not an innocent one, and it was clearly a propaganda move by the Portuguese quasi-fascist dictatorial regime of that time.
    The line of thought of the time behind it was that black people, namely those from the colonies (Angola, Mozambique, Guinea and so on) were to be considered full-on Portuguese and have the same rights and should be equal to white Portuguese. Which, fairly, it's a great principle on paper. But at the time, it meant that "the more Portuguese" they were and felt, the bigger the grip Portugal had on the colonies. So, sending a black singer to Eurovision was meant to give to the international viewers a show of "look at how progressive we are" but Portuguese people know that it really had some shady intentions behind it.
    That's why it's not talked about much. Also, the song is a bit bland, From this era (and honestly, from all the Portuguese entries), the iconic one is "Desfolhada" from 1969.

      That may be true but now you can look at this entry as the first ever black man participating in Eurovision (not the first black person following Milly Scott the year before) and in this respect it is interesting that in 2020 before the cancellation 7 countries chose an artist of color (Malta, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Czech Republic, Israel and San Marino) #Black Lives Matter
