Wonderful performance! I used to think that this symphony is playable on 4 strings. Conductors ask for lower notes or it was Berlioz original intention?

Thank you very much🙏🙏 honestly I don't remember if there is any note below E in the Symphony, but sometimes conductors ask to play a few notes or passages 1 octave lower....or sometimes it's just us playing regardless what the conductor says😅😅

Berlioz’s score has an arrow down in that particular section before the bells come in. You can still play it with a regular 4 string (jump the octave), but if you have an extension or a five string, you can descend the scale as normal
