  • This is an over due catch up on work I have been doing on the scenics and buildings of the layout, in particular the area at the bottom of the viaduct. I am also after some advice as to what would be the best N scale turntable, motor and control system to purchase. If you have any particular systems you think I should look at please comment below.

    Hi Steve! Considering you haven't had much time you seem to have achieved a terrific amount of work! Love that you've started thinking about infrastructure with the road system! The church area looks great now that you've applied some static grass! Can't help with turntables I'm afraid but I'll watch with interest as they've always fascinated me and I'd love to incorporate one on Shelfington at some point! Keep up the good work! All the best, Ian.

      Thanks Ian - I'm pleased with the church area, and never thought one day in retirement I'd be considering and making 9mm grave stones!

    Hi Steve, well you’re getting more done than I am at the moment, I’m stuck fixing point motors at the moment and it’s not going as well as I’d like, lol!
    Another row of terrace houses a church, static grassing, roadways, it’s quite a lot achieved mate well done. It’s taking me ages at the moment even to make one model, but as you say it’s the waiting, for paint and glue to dry.
    As for the turntable, I bought a Peco one and intend to motorise it at some point but it was going in at Budleigh Regis but I’ve changed that now so goodness knows where it will go! I know that peco do a motor for it but not sure if it would work with itrain? But the actual turntable is quite nice and detailed and with a bit of scenics and weathering will look good.
    Looking forward to more Steve, cheers for now, John

      Thanks John - I am leaning more and more to the Peco turntable, and Stephen from Elevenholme has given me a good lead to a document where an Arduino board is used to control the motor, Before I even consider buying it all in i have to finish the graveyard, and other small bits, so I'm busy cutting up grave stones of all things!

      Cheers Sion - It's getting there but unbelievably slowly but then again it keeps me busy! As they say it's all in the detail and detail takes time.

    Hi Steve, enjoyed the update, you’ve done a lot of work considering the limited time which is great! I’ve just fitted a Peco turntable but I’m not sure what I will be doing yet with it to control it so it will be interesting to see what you do. I would very much welcome a tour of your layout maybe in a later video, apologies if I’ve missed one that you’ve done recently but I feel always good to give an overview once in a while 😊 Cheers Gary

    Hi Steve I do look forward to your videos. Turn tables as you know I have one for me it's the movement how smooth it turns. Mine is, the turntable is peco but it's all about the motor it's a indexing turntable which for me you lay the track were you want it even to the point the rails can be touching each other, you can have as many track as you like round it. And it works with dcc so the sound is not interrupted and there is no dead spot on it, so you drive the on forward and if you turn the train 180 degrees you still drive it of with the controller still saying forward. The make is ADM but it's expensive but for me it work every time and easy to set up. Round the circumstances every millimetre is broken down into 3 places it can stop. There is a new motor that peco have come up with for there turntable but I don't know how good it is.
    Is the church pointing the wright way because they should be pointing East if you wanted to know or probably knew this already, for me it all comes down to if it fits then it works because no one knows which way east is at your shed. Great job on the grass work it does make a difference. Colin

    Hi Steve. The layout is really coming along. You have accomplished a lot there. Until a few months ago I would have agreed with Colin about ADM turntables. They really do provide everything you wanted. Unfortunately they have closed the business. You may be able to get one second hand, but the main problem will be getting support for it if anything went wrong. I am not aware of anything that comes close to their turntable. Fleischman and Minitrix both do what look to be good turntables (they should be for the price) but they are not DCC controlled. They are also 1:160 scale and look a bit continental (although not extremely so). I am not sure the scale would be a problem but you might want to check the length of the turntable deck. You may also want to see if anyone has done a review of either on CZcams. Stephen

      Thanks Stephen - I will look for that today. As I said to Colin I'm leaning towards the Peco turntable but concerned about the noise from the motor. When I was teaching I would make small three wheeled robots with the kids, using lego motors, so may look at that route as they were quiet and came with a gear box to adjust speed to make more accurate. Thanks for the continued advice and support its very much appreciated.
      Regards

      @@lynganddistrict I agree about the peco moyor being noisy. I am hoping that this link gets through to you. If it does just like the reply. This might be a possibility www.modeltraincatalogue.com/downloads/arduinoturntable.pdf

    Hi Steve another thing you can do is a triangle turn around. Colin

    • @lynganddistrict
      @lynganddistrict  Před rokem

      Hi Colin, I'm not familiar with a triangle turn around - what exactly does that entail?
      Regards

    • @collinsngauge5493
      @collinsngauge5493 Před rokem

      @@lynganddistrict Hi Steve the triangle a piece of track horizontal(it doesn't have to be straightit can be curved or going away from you) but it has two points facing each other a left and a right which then both curve with a bit of track to a y point then a bit of track after the y point. So imagine looking at a triangle with the 2 points of the triangle at the bottom and 1 point triangle at the top so the train comes in from the bottom right turns right goes up to the top of the triangle and pass it then goes backwards down to the bottom left point and beyond and stops then goes forwards towards the right point werevit entered and is face the other way. Hope that made sense. The used it a lot in the old days. Colin
