I had a professor recommend I research professors in surrounding colleges; a lot of professors are researchers, too. She told me to look at their research (google their profile with the college they're teaching at), find someone who's doing something you're interested in, and reach out to them through their publicly provided school email. She said to ask these people if they're hiring technicians or how you can get involved, and echoed the idea shared by him here that a lot of people will actually answer.

Research on the side. WRITE volunteer. 5)Ask people that are already in the field. How do you get there? 6)focus on how you can get in the field with the less effort. 7) repeat to get into the next stage
