    Thank you for sharing these great videos and also what you use for cleaning the hull. Your blue hull looks outstanding! Our boat launched today and looking forward to this season! Have a great season!

    Launching tomorrow! You lads should consider doing a Montauk to Sag Harbor to Greenport trip. You could even enter through the shinnecock canal and head through the locks into the Peconic bay! Would be great for content. SLAINTE!

      We actually have done that trip a couple times, but I guess not since we started the channel. Beautiful scenery in there, especially the mooring field in Sag Harbor, it’s really peaceful in there . The only challenge was that little gate to the west of the lock in the Shinnecock Canal, a real nailbiter! Good luck on your launch and have a great season! Slainte!

    Great work on providing an insight into the work and hours involved in keeping a boat in great condition!! I am wondering what was the grey surface paint you used on the shafts, skegs, props and rudders? Was it a normal "antifoul"? Also wondering why you have not gone to the yellow "propspeed" coating for all the underwater running gear? Great videos and please keep them coming.

      Hi Greg. Normal anti-falling paint will not work on bronze or bronze alloys. One choice as you point out is prop speed, but that stuff is pretty expensive. Our boat happened to come with prop speed already applied, but last year during our first season I found that it was already gone by July. The next best thing is a plain, old-fashioned, zinc spray coating. I think it was rustoleum. It’s not going to help you much if you get lots of really hard growth, but we are in brackish waters and it’s just enough to deter the barnacles.

    Captain Rob, question, did your replacement portlights have a better design that might prevent a reoccurrence? Great job with summer commissioning, lovely boat!

      Great question James. I did think about that and looked at some other options, but I really did not want to take a saw to the boat to change the size of the opening and on top of that there’s very limited space inside to make it bigger so I went with the same model that was in there before from Bowmar. The old ones lasted 18 years so I think I’m safe for the time being. I will just watch much more closely to ensure that no water is getting between the hull and the port light..

      @@thevesselslainte good thinking really, 18 years of service plus (perhaps) an even better install than original should be more than good enough.

      @@thevesselslainte Love the channel and also have a 2007 48 that we are getting ready for a Bahamas adventure next month. I have some rust around a couple of the forward portlights. Did you see any rust before they failed? Also, can you tell me where you found the replacements and the model number?

    • @thevesselslainte
      @thevesselslainte  Před 2 měsíci

      @@brianshol2108 hey Brian, I would look really closely at that rust. You could see in my video the internal fasteners that rusted so if any water is getting behind the trim ring it’s possible that a problem is brewing. I would use a putty knife to see if there’s any play in that trim ring. If it is sealed up tight against the hull you won’t be able to get the putty knife behind it and it should be fine. If there’s any gap you should seal it and if there’s any play or movement, you should replace it. The part to replace them is Bomar/Pompanette S719-6-SS
      Thanks for reaching out - good luck on your trip, sounds awesome! Slainte!

      @@thevesselslainte Apprecaite the reply and will a putty knife on them this week. Certainly don't need an issue with those while we are in the Islands.
