Okay, I had this happen to my Makita impact over two years ago. Tried EVERYTHING to get it out. Magnets, picks, glue a piece on top to pull out and much much more. Today, I have seen the light. Hallelujah! I'm gathering the needed tools and will be performing a Makitaoscopy this weekend. THANK YOU for the timely content. So glad that I subscribed.
Lmao makitascopy
Thank you for the timely content....eventhough the bit broke off 2 yrs ago. Lol im jus messin w u
@@jacksmith2315 LMAO too. I gave up and just used other drills. I need to use an impact driver this weekend helping a neighbor. I missed it! Hope I can fix this.
Glad we could help. "Makitascopy", that's hilarious.
Well hopefully yours turned out better than mine. I couldn't get anything to budge.
Out of curiosity, if you'd already tried picks and magnets, then what was revolutionary about this?
You just saved me a ton of hassle. Milwaukee and followed the instructions and had it out and back together in 3 minutes. What a saint.
Thanks mate 👍. I followed your instructions with my Makita impact driver today. It worked a treat. I still had to grip the bit with a large pliers and tap the pliers with a hammer. But now my Makita is saved. Someone else advised to disassemble on a towel to avoid the ball bearings rolling away- great tip. I would also suggest having a tea towel or something held over the tool as you dismantle it. That will help stop parts springing across the room (it happened to me). Thanks so much.
Out of all the videos online, this one was the best. I SPENT HOURS watching videos and trying to get my bit out of my impact driver. I did everything this video said to do and it worked. The process took me ALOT LONGER but I did get the bit out and my driver is working as it should. I own a Makita (which I love) but to replace it would have cost $$$$$....thank you....PS. use a magnet tray for sure. The little parts can go flying..Be sure to do this in an area where you will be able to easily find and see tiny parts if dropped. I did end up spraying WD40 on it and letring it sit for a few hrs too. I DID THIS ABOUT 3 TIMES BEFORE i finally got it
I have a Worx Switchdriver, and first month had this problem. Called the company, they sent me out a new one, one month goes by, and the second one gets a bit stuck in it again. Threw them both to the side and went back to my tried and true Makita.
Today, I found you and as soon as I get a magnet, I’m going to follow your instructions. Who knows, I might have two Switchdrivers that actually work. But, I’m never buying a Worx tool again…ever. Unless, you give one a good review. Cause I trust you. Thanks.
Hi Tim, I pulled it out with a strong magnet, came right out, my 1/4 impact will not pull lugs off! Everything under the hood is not a problem, not lugs! Your tool talent is very impressive Tim, I’ve seen you do some tear downs and install a lift and now this broken bit repair, excellent quality video, ty so much, Bob,
You are the man!! Thank you for your part in extracting a step drill bit that broke off and was a little rusty on the end which caused it to stick inside that much harder. I was using a ryobi impact which has 3 ball bearings in it. I guess they don't want those bits coming out at all. Now off to give another guy props for putting what little bit of the bit that came out after your instructions, but needed to put the bit in a vise and tap on the impact shaft and it finally broke loose. Thanks again brother. Im subscribing tonight to your channel.
Good stuff. Just broke a little deeper and just needed a couple downward taps since the ball bearing was out. Thank you!
Excellent. Thanks for taking the time. Helped me tremendously.
Broke a hard steel hex drive @ 1/8" under flush. Lost seven drill bits, two fingers and an eye while trying to remove it. Good thing I had some brain left to look for your video and one eye left to see it. Big thank you!
This video taught me nothing..... what am i missing?
Was changing brake pads when I broke my Milwaukee bit off deep in the driver head. 10 minutes later I was back in action thanks to you. Thank you!
This is the reason that we do what we do. Thanks so much for letting us know. Glad you got it fixed up.
Long drill bit snapped and left the base in my dewalt DCH273. The 'get under the ball-bearing' trick here helped tremendously. Thank you 👍
I saved this video because in several tool and construction Facebook groups I'm in I see posts almost every day from people upset about breaking off bits in their impact. In fact I've already posted this video on Facebook in response to someone who has broken a bit. This isn't necessarily the easiest method but it is the surefire method and that's what counts. Sometimes it's faster to go the surefire method and move on versus spending an hour trying to wiggle a broken bit out.
Thank you, been struggling to get a bit out of my impact driver for awhile and couldn't find any good videos showing step by step.
Worked like a charm on my Makita. Thank you so much for publishing this!

Saw a post last week a guy was wondering how to get a broken bit out. Good video.
Thank you very much, we really appreciate it.
This was super useful.
Thanks mate, that was very helpfull
A related tip…if you get a bit that is stuck because it twisted in the collet, there are two things to try.
1. Try using the tool in reverse while holding the bit with pliers, vice, etc. that may get it untwisted enough to remove. If not, try option 2
2. If you can get a solid hold on the bit using a slide hammer attachment, try using a slide hammer to remove it while holding the collet release. You might need a second pair of hands for this. This is why I now own a slide hammer, got a bit stuck in my impact and option 1 didn’t work. Option 2 got it out on the first try.
Good tips, thanks for sharing them. Thanks for watching.
2 worked like a charm! didnt have a slide hammer but tapped my locking pliers downward with a hammer once it was clamped onto the bit and it popped right out.
Dude you're a fking genius. Fuck that damn o-ring. You saved me from poking my fingers even more with the fking flathead. Thank you.
@@JordanSTX254 You’re welcome.
Didn't work for me. Took it apart, removed the 2 bearings and it still won't come out, I have a Kobalt 24V I also put wd40 wait one hour and nothing used, tap on the impact shaft and nothing.. Thank you everyone in advance if any other advise
The Porter Cable impact driver I got in a package from Costco was exactly like the Milwaukee you did. Worked like a charm. Thanks!
Good to know! Thanks for sharing.
I needed a lit magnifying ring to do this on my Makita, but was shocked how easy it was. Perfect instructions!

Sir you just saved me so much trouble. I’ve been trying to free a bit from my Milwaukee for two days. Thank you!!!!!!
Thanks for this info, proved invaluable in respect of the Makita - as I had a bit get stuck. Proved to be an easy fix thanks to you - cheers
Now I know ! Tyvm brother !
This was awesome on a Milwaukee. Thank you so much!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! Your video just saved me from losing my mind over the order that this went back together. Excellent video. Thank you so much.
Awesome, glad we could help. Thanks for watching.
Use a powerful industrial magnetic.
That works sometimes, but it sometimes requires more in depth operation.
Unfortunately the magnet kept hitting the chuck not the bit itself
Luckily keep earth mags everywhere
Small pen magnet works for me most of the time. Use a impact daily and snap 3/8 hex shank yearly.
Throw it in an MRI and gain Dr Manhattan powers
Great video, no magnet needed only 2 little screwdrivers, works for my milwaukee impact
Thanks! I was able to save my Hitachi driver. Two nut-picks worked pretty well to get the clamp off.
Thank you for you video help to get out the bit
Thanx a lot.. fixed my problem with ur video.. thank you
Man, I’ve got the exact makita impact and had one break off deep inside
You saved a LOT of frustration
Worked perfectly
lol just had to make sure not to drop the ball bearings
Thank you for real!!!

Great to hear! Thanks for watching.
Great simple video. First REMOVE THE BATTERY PACK. Also, DeWalt outer snap ring may try to fly into stratosphere.
Thank you very much!
The magnet, great idea, thanks
I have yet to see a video on this subject. Great idea, STR
Thank you very much, glad we could enlighten.
Thank you for the very useful tip, my Makita is back up and running at no cost to me.
Excelente bro thank u so much
I've tried everything else on the internet, thank you for giving me one more option! Hopefully this will do it before I pitch a perfectly good drill!
Did it work?
Nice one. Thanks, saved me sending it in for repairs. Took less that 2 minutes.
Awesome! Thanks for watching.
This video helped me
Thanks for making this video!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
That happens for using the poor quality drivers that break easily. Thank you thank you 🙏👍
Thank you for making this video, just pulled a broken bit with your help
Glad it helped. That's why we do these. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!!!
Luckily a magnet and small brass hammer usually does the trick for us!
Yep! That’s what I was thinking, less work. Haha.
Magnet usually does the trick, but we've had several that were twisted in the chuck. Moreso, we've had users/viewers that have posted pictures of pure destruction of their tools trying to remove a bit. Makes no sense.
you saved my day!
Never seen this, excellent video 👍
Glad we could enlighten and thanks for watching.
Hi, thank you so much for yor video, but I made a mistake that put a oversize bit into the impact drive, do you have any tip to take it out?
Thanks mate
Thank you for..idea
Thanks a lot. I looked everywhere for that C Pin on my Ryobi impact. It was stuck to the bit I was using to cut a doorknob size hole
