@@perrionhurd7509 do you have some more? love it
Real people talking about real music. Talib Kweli great show. Brooklyn always does good things.
I’m so glad “Lyrics to go” got a shoutout. That’s my favorite Tribe song
Jazz and Hip Hop... The Perfect Union...
Yup you said it my brother
🟥⬛️🟩✊🏾
indeed!
Black Sheep "The Choice Is Yours" -- McCoy Tyner "Trident"
Super Cat "Dolly My Baby" -- Herbie Hancock "Watermelon Man"
Black Moon "Enta Da Stage" -- Alice Coltrane "Journey in Satchidananda"
+1 Black Sheep. people even forget about before Choice there was Flavor of the Month and that Herb Alpert trumpet. my Uncle used to play that.
My Top 3:
Digable Planets - Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat), samples Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers' "Stretchin"
Mobb Deep - Shook Ones Pt. 2, samples Herbie Hancock's "Jessica"
Nas - New York State of Mind, samples Joe Chambers' "Mind Rain"
Thank you!
#1 Mystic Brew by Ronnie Foster (Electric Relaxation by ATQC)
Man this made me so happy...being a high schooler who knows all the samples, artists, albums, songs, and actually knowing (listening) the people speaking on this topic makes me feel extremely accomplished 😁
I'm so excited for this episode. Two of my favorite artists
Can't wait for the full episode. Geek out.
Dope! Robert Glasper always has some smooth cuts.
great selections...I immediately thought of Stakes is High when I saw the title
Excellent pick👍🏿
All perfect samples from 3 tru masters. Only wished he listed 5 so we could have gotten a Primo and Madlib pick as well.
Stakes is High is also a Dilla production 😉
Tribe Called Quest: Electric Relaxation (Sample Mystic Brew By Ronnie Foster)
Billy Cobham’s Heather (93 til Infinity Souls of Mischief)
So 🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@UPROXXVideo agreed!
Priceless comment section thanks guys.
Love it!!!!!
That's so interesting about Tip doing the 3 bar loop thing. It's a 3 bar loop on ATCQ's Electric Relaxation too. Keeps it hypnotic.
I thought I was was gonna get a Still Shinin mention. I was waiting lol! No one is giving that one up.
All 3 of his picks are standouts
Best bossa nova hip hop sample is also dilla, that "Runnin" by Pharcyde
Stan Getz and Luiz Bonfá - "Saudade Vem Correndo"
Dilla's sample of John Hicks' 'Dierdre de Samba' on Jay Dee 30 from his King of Beats instrumental album is a piece of genius. So much feel and emotion in such a simple loop. Hits hard
Pete Rock and CL Smooth TROY.
Robert spot on!!!!🔥🔥🔥
Dope ✌🏿🎼
Dilla and Digable, so much Jazzy flavor.👊🏾💥
Can’t believe they didn’t mention Gangstarr.
tbf Premier during his prime often took very miniscule portion of some samples and the end result often didn't even sound remotely close to what the sample sounded like originally
meaning that some of the dopest Premier beats often come from some boo-boo ass samples that Premier flipped so well that when you hear the original you ask "how in the fuck did he hear that"
yet but which one D'WICK...? Mass Appeal...? oh wait i know, the classic Words I Manifest...? Charlie Parker's NIGHT IN TUNISIA (even got famously included on a Cosby Show episode)
David T. Walker's Lay Lady Lay ( The People Under the Stairs "Acid Raindrops" )
nice vid
Roy Ayers’ Daylight (Bonita Applebum ATQC)
Roy Ayers didn't do that a band called Ramp did it..look it up
RAMP stands for Roy Ayers Music Production. He was the founder of the band and produced their music. Including Daylight
@@affinityairportsedaninc8226 wow I didn't know that..thanks for the info bro
@@kennysmith3184 you are most welcome Sir! 🙏
Slum Village-"Jealousy"
Minnie Riperton is from CHICAGO, Uncle Talib. Chi Town stand up
The Heath Brothers - Smilin Billy Suit Part 2 // Nas - One Love // Illmatic
U.N.I.T.Y. by Queen Latifa and A Message From the Inner City by the Crusaders. That instrumental still blows me away every time I listen.
If you can find it look up this documentary called the blue note you won't be sorry it links blues jazz and rap all together who sample it etc it's a damn good watch
He influenced me with Pharrell Williams, Tyler The Creator, Mac Miller, Jamiroquai, Thundercat, The Internet, Mia, Common, Oxmo Puccino, Kaytranada, Badbadnotgood, Gorillaz, Norah Jones, Lana Del Rey, Barbara Carlotti, Miel De Montagne, Kali Uchis, Beastie Boys, Joji, Channel Tres and Frédéric Chopin
After the Race by Mandrill (Smiff n Wessun "Lets Get it On")
Nice Episode but Come Inside My Love by Minnie Riperton is not a jazz record. It's R&B.
LYRICS TO GO❤❤❤❤❤
Minnie Riperton was born and raised on the south side of Chicago!
"Fuck Yo Feelings" is a masterpiece!
Facts!
Mine is the Roy Ayers sample that Pete Rock did on Searchin!!!
TCQ - The Hop & UMC's - One to Grow On
ATCQ, don't know if it's Jazz persay but as a former Tenor Sax student, the Sax combined with Minnie Riperton in Check The Rhyme are epic AWB (Average White Band) Love Your Life. honorable mention to De La Soul, EGO TRIPPIN PT2, Al Hirt Harlem Hendoo, honorable mention to Large Pro/Main Source Friendly Game of Baseball, Lou Donaldson Pot Belly, and honorable mention also to ATCQ for Push it Along, Grover Washington Loran's Dance and perhaps even Pete Rock #1 Soul Brother. a slowed down Xylophone is all kinds of Jazzy, The Silhouettes Conversations.
The OG Crooklyn Dodgers 😎👍
what crazy is right after that part of the sample from Minnie Ripperton you can hear two samples Dilla flipped.
Minnie Riperton was from Chicago, not Houston.
Yes stakes is high!
Minnie Ripperton is from Chicago
Exactly but he cleared that mistake up on his I.G. POST
Chi town stand up
Dont know what the sample is but i love the sample in Pete rocks song "Escape."
That Get Dis Money beat..... what a mindfuck!
Well since I was raised on The Chain and The Starr it's mandatory that I name a Gang Starr joint: 2 Deep sampled "Lovely Is Today" by Eddie Harris 1968 ill sample!!!!
Yo Talib ask him about how it was like playin keys for Lauryn Hill 💀💀💀
Lolololol.....
Noooooo...dont get him started on that! Lolol
They Reminisce Over You, Listen. Those horns were magnificent
Today - Tom Scott Foreal such a great one!
Annnnnnd Relapse. Off I go to rock those records......and others. Won't be getting any sleep tonight.
O.C.- Times Up (Les DeMerles 'A Day in Life')
Very hard question to answer
Yep Lyrics to go is a masterpiece I can listen to that for hours

Ahmad Jamal - I Love Music

Come Running to Me by Herbie Hancock (Slum Village's Get Dis Money (J Dilla))
Knew he’d say Stakes is High lol
Pete Rock & CL Smooth T.R.O.Y
Native Tongues!
We’ve got the Jazz
Kweli saved the session with Don't Sweat the Technique. During the whole video I, personally, kept repeating to myself, "I know he's gonna say *Who Is God* "
They Reminisce should've been mentioned
the de la beat is also DILLA but hey ;D
Pretty sure Minnie Ripperton is not from Houston. Joe Sample is from Houston though
Jack Bruce born to be blue. Than everything else
Nah the get this money pick was crazy
How is it wild? It's literally so influential and Dilla was a genius with it. Bro changed the time signature of the sample into 4/4 and he was also using an Analog Synth as a bass, it's so clever
Digable Planets Jettin- Bob James Blue Lick
The importance of owning records as a musician
Stakes is high.
Yo why you blowin' the spot man?
Don’t Sweat the Technique
Dilla tha goat.
